Meadowlands: Thursday 6/28 Analysis

Derick Giwner|Jun 26, 2012

(CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 67 - 180 / $348.00)

Best Bet: BLUFF (9th) Spot Play: CORKY (1st)

Race 1

(2A) CORKY’s recent line looks like just an even effort but he lost a bit of ground moving wide into the stretch and no horse was moving faster nearing the wire. He comes with two stablemates including (2) KEGLER HANOVER, who looked very professional winning his most recent baby race. (1B) CAVEAT EMPTOR made a strong late move while not getting spooked by a breaker on the final turn. (4) SUPER CLASSIC was throwing his head around on the first turn, broke and made up a ton of ground to challenge with a quick rush; not impossible.

Race 2

(6) TO DREAM ON has been spectacular in the morning and none of these has shown anything to make you think they can keep up with this daughter of Credit Winner. (1) CANEEL HALL was a distant second to the top one last time, but she did show improvement from start one to start two. (5) TRUE DAY DREAM is a question mark arriving from Tioga. (4) ANDIE SOPHIA wired the field easily last time but it is worth noting she wasn’t exactly firing off the gate.

Race 3

(4) LADY RIVIERA lost a good deal of ground when the leader stopped in her most recent try. She displayed good determination by fighting back in mid-stretch after appearing beat for second. It is worth noting that she is a half-sister to Chapter Seven ($951k, 1:50 4/5). (1) ROYAL ASSETS has probably looked the best of this group so far. You can’t toss this Schnittker trainee. (3) MORNINGSTAR has royal bloodlines with a double millionaire mom and a millionaire dad. She posted a solid victory in her recent baby race.

Race 4

(5) DEWEY LANE has shown good versatility in her qualifiers. Mom was a nice trotter and this is her first by Deweycheatumnhowe. Perhaps this is the winning combination. (8) MISS STEELE comes off a sharp qualifier at Gaitway and could be worth a look on the track if the price is right. (1) MUSCLES SECRET picked up her game last time. She is a full sister to $1.4 million earner Strong Yankee, but mom hasn’t produced any others like him.

Race 5

(8) LR DANCING DREAM picks up a new pilot to steer the ship as he drops down the class ladder. He was stuck last on the cones in his most recent and wasn’t as bad as his line indicates. Yannick stuck with this guy. Hopefully he makes it from Yonkers in time to drive. (1) COSMO MADNESS has plenty of recent excuses; two bad posts; two uncovered trips. (5) OBSESSIVE ARTIST is going to offer a short price and hasn’t shown a desire to win lately.

Race 6

(10) REMISSIONOFSINS won at this level on Saturday and faces an especially dull group tonight. (5) HILLSBORO MILE was speed tightened a bit in his last qualifier. Perhaps this guy is a reach but most of these do not look great. (2) MISTER BARNETT N has a chance with a smooth trip. (8) ARTS JIMMY RAY looks good on paper but I’m not feeling the love for the Harrington shippers.

Race 7

(1) GOLD WALKER displayed some improvement in his second start since last August. His main competition is drawn way to the outside. I see a possible upset. (10) BAMBINO HALL & (7) TIGERS TOO GOOD are both getting class relief; use. (9) CHE picks up a new driver.

Race 8

(8) RINGSIDE WINNER picks up a catch-driver this week. When you are staring at a field like this, it is always worthwhile to roll the dice. (6) SHE WEARS IT WELL seems like the favorite, but do you want to play a filly that was a no excuse third last time. (9) WEEKEND VACATION would be my pick from an inside post. Not sure how she works out a trip from post nine. Miller chose #1.

Race 9

(9) BLUFF plummets in class from PASS to NW1. This is a nice filly and she should boss this bad field. (6) QUARANTINE S broke in her 2012 debut. She is better than that race would indicate. (3) ANOTHER AMARETTO chased nicely last time.

Race 10

(1) SMOKIN N GRININ should be tighter in her second start since March. (2) HOLLYS HALO & (3) LUCKY TURN both draw better and get away from Ace Of Pace.
