Meadowlands: Thursday 2/20 Analysis

Derick Giwner|Feb 19, 2014
Meadowlands logo (new)

Race 1 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 3 - $30,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 7 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

MEET STATS: 60 - 216 / $361.90 BEST BETS: 9 - 17 / $30.50

Best Bet: MR FENWICK (5th)

Spot Play: THE GREEN KNIGHT (4th)

Race 1

(5) DOT DOT DOT DASH was stressed through a tough opening quarter versus a slightly tougher field last time. She should make a quick lead this week and have every opportunity to win. (2) INVESTOR VOLO posted a better line with hobbles added. (1) LUVALADY has done her best work with Gingras in the bike. (4) CORLEONE HALL faces much easier this week and could perk up.

Race 2

(5) TIME TO QUIT hasn’t lost a race in months and figures to offer a very low price on Thursday. (7) SIXTEEN MIKES raced very well in the Super Bowl and topped that off with a strong win at Yonkers. (1) CLEMENTINE DREAM has a chance with a clean trip and a bit of luck.

Race 3

(5) CAJOLE HANOVER is a huge risk and not a horse I’m running to the windows to bet, but he should finally offer decent value this week. If he behaves, he can win. (6) PERFECT ALLIANCE looks like the one to beat but faces a more difficult group. (7) RAY HALL has some credentials but might need to find a bit more.

Race 4

(2) THE GREEN KNIGHT was a steady fourth in just his first start since July. This is a weak group and he looks as good as any in here. (4) PALMS BEACH should fit against this bunch. (8) HIGHLAND TERRIFIC has a bit of go in her tank when in the right spot.

Race 5

(9) MR FENWICK is far from a world-beater and certainly not one of my favorite horses, but he really should dominate this bunch. (5) C-O-TO BLUEGRASS has been uninvolved from more outer posts. I’d like to see some speed from him this race and perhaps new driver Tetrick will create that trait. (2) VICTORY NUT sports a string of outside posts on half mile tracks. I wouldn’t be shocked if he got a piece in this race.

Race 6

(7) ABS ATTACK couldn’t get the job done while uncovered at Yonkers in his first try for this barn. Her 1:51 2/5 mark from last year jumps off the page. (4) ARTIST POINT was second at this level last time. (1) JOEY JOOKISS has been closing well.

Race 7

(4) LONG FIGHT HANOVER was certainly speed-tightened by DiNozzi last time and figures to bring a much better effort with Miller in the bike. (9) WHEELAWAY appears quite comfortable at this level. (8) SIMPLY BUSINESS was once a promising youngster. Mark Silva takes over the training and he has a way of doing well with these reclamation projects.

Race 8

(7) IMA QUE T was racing well at the Meadowlands versus slightly better competition and now returns here for the tag-team training combination of Brainard and Capone. Tetrick had some choices and stays here; interesting player with early speed. (6) IZA BELLA is in better form than she appears and could be involved at a price. (1) BLUEBIRD KIDSQUEEN seems to be right at home against this kind.

Race 9

(8) OVER AND OUT was in over his head last time. Now he returns to the level of his last victory. (6) RUSH N SUPREME was handled conservatively last week when I thought we might see some early speed. Let’s see what happens this time around. (1) MAJESTIC STONE comes off a nice effort.

Race 10

(4) FOUR STARZ ALEX was trapped along the cones in last and paced home with good energy through the stretch once clear. None of his competition scares me. (9) YANKEE DEVIL was used up in the early pace last time. With a smoother trip he can contend. (3) SENOR GRANDE moves inside this week and could make the front or sit closer to the action. (5) TERROR HIGH seems like an exotics player.
