Meadowlands: Takter-trained trifecta in NJSS final for rookie filly trotters

One race after capturing the 99th Hambletonian, trainer Nancy Takter's 2-year-old trotting fillies swept the top three spots in the $240,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final, with Champagne Problems giving Hambo-winning sire Tactical Landing another stakes credit, scoring in a career-best and visually-impressive 1:52 3/5 clocking over a track rated "sloppy" but clearly not far off.
Takter's other two fillies, Spicy Nice and Kendra, finished second and third in a close photo with Lady Landia fourth in the same picture.
Lady Landia and Ake Svanstedt left hard at the outset with Dunn and Champagne Problems taking a tuck. When Kendra took command for Yannick Gingras past the 27 4/5 opening quarter, Dunn made a second move with Champagne Problems and put the filly on the front, where she would not look back.

With fractions of 56 2/5 and 1:24 4/5, Dunn had a firm hold on the first-year filly. Spicy Nice came without cover on the final turn for Andy McCarthy, but she wasn't gaining traction on the winner, and Champagne Problems hit another gear turning into the homestretch, making it a one-filly contest for top honors.
With a 27 4/5 final quarter, Champagne Problems drew clear for her third win in four career starts. Owned by Rojan Stables, Family Business, P. Hoopes and Caviart Farms, Champagne Problems returned $5.20 as the favorite.
"I really liked her from day one," said Takter in the winner's circle. "I really like those Tactical Landings."
Quite the understatement with Tactical Landing-sired fillies finishing first and second in the Sire Stakes finale.
A $35,000 Lexington Selected sale purchase a year ago, Champagne Problems earnings moved to $148,750 with the win.
"I was surprised she sold for as little as she did," said Takter. "She's a beautiful filly."
