Tactical Mounds and Scott Zeron converted on a pocket trip to score decisively in the $40,000 third leg of the Miss Versatility at the Meadowlands on Saturday night. The 4-year-old mare by Tactical Landing posted a career-best 1:51 clocking in capturing her fourth race in eight starts in 2024. Nelsonbriteagle No left with purpose for Ake Svanstedt as five of the six mares in the field were on the gate and moving forward at the outset. Warrawee Xenia and catch-driver David Miller were four-deep into the turn and broke stride, paving the way for Zeron to gain control at the quarter with Tactical Mounds in a crisp 27 second quarter. Andrew McCarthy moved from the three-hole to the lead by the half in 55 seconds and was still on the lead through the final turn as favorite Tipsy Moni and Yannick Gingras pulled to move forward and flushed the winner from the pocket prior to the 1:23 2/5 three-quarters. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Tactical Mounds surged to the front but had to deal with the closers as Tipsy Moni had the trip, but the chalk was unable to muster the closing kick, settling for second. Nelsonbriteagle No found room for Svanstedt early enough to menace but was not gaining late and finished third. "She's big and strong and with the gaiting pole she's easy to drive now," said Zeron of the winner. Owned by Thestable Tactical Mounds and trained by Megan Scran, Tactical Mounds returned $8.80 to win.
