Sylvia Hanover posted her third win over rival Twin B Joe Fresh this season after taking Saturday afternoon's Grade 2 $139,000 Lady Liberty for open pacing mares at the Meadowlands. Kobe's Gigi (Yannick Gingras) set fractions of 26 4/5, 54 4/5 and 1:22 1/5 in the event as Sylvia Hanover (Tim Tetrick) sat in te pocket and Twin B Joe Fresh (Dexter Dunn) stalked her from third. Sylvia Hanover vacated the pylons on the last turn and had her cover tracked by Twin B Joe Fresh, with My Girl EJ (Todd McCarthy) positioned third-over. In the lane Sylvia Hanover went by Kobe's Gigi, and although Twin B Joe Fresh angled out and had every chance to go by her nemesis, she could not, as Sylvia Hanover's 26 1/5 final quarter carried her to the win by a length and three-quarters in 1:48 2/5. My Girl EJ passed Kobe's Gigi for third, followed by Stonecoldtreachery (Andy McCarthy) and Bellucci (Matt Kakaley). ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter "It kind of went like I thought it would, honestly. It was a little bit of a chess match. I think my mare is better, even if she's parked, having somebody to race at her," offered Tetrick following the win. "I could have maybe moved back to the front, but I thought Dexter might go after me then. I thought it was the right move to keep him on my back. I had pretty good faith in my mare that she could hold her off. I was worried. I knew where (Dunn) was. I knew he was on my back. We had to pull going into the last turn and we went the third quarter pretty good. My mare's tough as nails and she doesn't ever get tired, but she can sprint too. I just think as long as she's got somebody to look at her and then chase her like they did, she's pretty tough to get by. "She's a sweetheart. She's a mare that's made over $2 million. My job is just not to fall off and put her in the right spot." Mark Steacy trains Sylvia Hanover, a 5-year-old Always B Miki mare, for owner Hudson Standardbred Stable Inc. She has a summary of 25-12-3 from 46 starts, has earned $2,075,348 and paid $4.00 to win. "We can't complain at all. I think she got a little bigger and a little stronger and she's showing it in the races," Steacy said. "It's a lot of fun. The people with Twin B Joe Fresh, it's a very friendly rivalry with us. She's a great mare, too, as we all know. To beat her, it makes it even that much more special."
