Rebuff and the "other" filly in the event, Jiggy Jog S, will lead the field into next week's $1 million Hambletonian for 3-year-old open trotters after taking the pair of eliminations on Saturday night. Driver Tim Tetrick slid down into fourth with Rebuff past the 27 4/5 opening quarter, then put him in motion two-wide. Rebuff took the top spot away from Fast As The Wind (Dexter Dunn) beyond the 56 2/5 half and then continued to show the way to three-quarters in 1:24 2/5, through the stretch, and to the wire, winning by a length and a quarter in 1:52 2/5. Fast As The Wind was second, Cool Papa Bell (Brian Sears) third, Periculum (Mattias Melander) fourth, and Looks Like Moni (David Miller) checked in fifth to also move on to the final. "We said we raced plenty of times as a 2-year-old. He's a nice-sized horse and pretty light and good-gaited, so we figured he probably didn't need so many starts before we can get him in shape," trainer Lucas Wallin said about Rebuff's schedule to date in 2022. "So far, the plan has been working out pretty perfect. "It's too late to do any changes in the training, so he's going to jog three or four times, and then we're going to train him very light on Wednesday, just a very, very light mile." A Muscle Hill colt bred by Steve Stewart and Michael Andrew, Rebuff is owned by Wallin in partnership with Kjell Andersen and Pieter Delis. This was his seventh win from 14 career starts, he has now earned $573,670, and he paid $2.40 to win as the 1-5 favorite. In the other elimination Jiggy Jog S (Dexter Dunn) led early, but she would be overtaken by King Of The North (Mark MacDonald) nearing the 27 4/5 opening quarter, and then King Of The North would be passed by 4-5 choice Joviality S (Brian Sears), who had shown speed from post ten. Joviality S, the MGM Yonkers Trot champion and another filly in this event, hit the half in 55 2/5, with Temporal Hanover (Orjan Kihlstrom) sent first-up out of fourth just after that station as Jiggy Jog S elected to sit in. Temporal Hanover moved into second on the last turn, but the third quarter was a slow 30 seconds, and Joviality S maintained command into the stretch. Sears called on Joviality S to try and hold off Temporal Hanover, but Jiggy Jog S had found room to angle out through the drive after getting shuffled, and she was able to out-foot both of the leaders, getting up to win by a head in 1:52 2/5. Temporal Hanover did get by Joviality S late, with King Of The North and Keg Stand (D. Miller) also securing spots in the final. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter "She's such a handy filly. She was great off the gate, and then she settles in a hole beautifully. The pace really was slow coming around that last turn. She was loaded with trot but we had a lot of horses around us," remarked Dunn. "We got a gap, and she really exploded with a fast sprint there to the finish." Ake Svanstedt trains Jiggy Jog S, a daughter of Walner bred by Vestmarka AB, for owner Jorgen Sparredal Inc. She has compiled a record of 6-6-2 from 17 lifetime attempts, and she has now earned $460,556. She paid $14.80 to win as a 6-1 offering. The draws for the Hambletonian and Hambletonian Oaks finals will take place on Tuesday afternoon.
