Meadowlands: Horses to watch for March 8-10, 2012

Derick Giwner|Mar 13, 2012

Thursday, March 8

GOTTASEEABOUTAGIRL (NIGHT STYLES) – Was running in yet still charged home impressively to gobble up her elders in the lane.

HES SPOOKY (HORSE & GROOM) – Never saw the cones and held very well through the wire. This guy does his best work near the lead, which makes the effort look even better.

EASY DE VIE (NW4000) – Was far from a killer but paced home with steady late energy and wasn’t exactly asked every step of the stretch drive.

HANDSOME PRINCE (QUA) – Finished up well under his own power.

Friday, March 9

WINDELL WINKIE (20000CLM) – Didn’t do a good job going around the final turn into the stretch, but was trotting really fast and came close to a speed break in deep stretch. This guy fits the basement condition at almost any track and could be an interesting play if he heads out of town.

GINGER AND FRED (OVERBID) – Was trapped behind mares and never had a chance to stretch her legs.

ANNDROVETTE (OVERBID) – Was never given a chance. She will be driven more aggressively in the final.

IN FOCUS (NW12500) – Challenged hard first-over and held well considering.

Saturday, March 10

JIMMIE HANOVER (NW6500) – Left and was four deep on the first turn, three-wide past the quarter, and parked past the half until getting the top. Only losing by a few lengths was a big accomplishment. He gets another shot at this level next week.

RHOMBUS (NW13000) – Finished willingly from last and had no shot at the top spots.

(Horses which previously appeared but have yet to race)

Friday, March 2

NOT AFRAID (SINGER MEMORIAL) – Simply dominated and won as he pleased.

RATHBONE N (15000CLM) – Was stuck behind a wall of horses and finished up well when he finally got clear.

Saturday, March 3

GREAT VINTAGE (NW10000) – Was too far back to menace but certainly showed he is ready to step up by closing willingly in the lane
