Meadowlands: Grand slams for Svanstedt, Tetrick in baby races

Breakfast With The Babies, sponsored by Jules Siegel's Fashion Farms, was held on the morning of Saturday, June 17 under perfect conditions. The temperature was in the low 70's under clear skies and with a mild wind against the horses in the stretch.

Making her debut for the Svanstedt stable, Slip Sliding Away, the first foal out of champion mare Ice Attraction, who also hailed from the barn, led all the way for Ake, trotting away from rivals through a 28 2/5 quarter on the end of a handy 1:59 3/5 win over Walla (Dexter Dunn). Bred by Svanstedt and Little E LLC., the Father Patrick filly was sold at the Lexington sale for $510,000.

Svanstedt also drove the Chapter Seven filly Senorita Palema to a 1:59 3/5 rallying win through the stretch over Landaluci (Brian Sears). The winner was a $150,000 Lexington purchase by Bender Sweden Inc. from Winbak Farm.

Dolce Amara (Tim Tetrick) was a 2:01 2/5 / 28 1/5 last quarter winner off a stalking trip, going by the early leaders and battling Sierra Girl (Sarah Svanstedt), who split horses late, to secure the victory. Lucas Wallin trains the Muscle Hill homebred for Kjell Magne Andersen, who was Lucas's partner on the great Rebuff.

Tetrick and Wallin connected again with Father Patrick filly The Moment, who rallied impressively from last to swoop the field and nail Go For Gaagaa NO (Yannick Gingras) at the wire in 1:59, her individual last quarter in a speedy 28 1/5. The winner is owned by the partnership of Al Libfeld, Marvin & Lynn Katz and Sam Goldband, who paid $95,000 to get her at the Harrisburg sale. Shmuel Farhi is the breeder.

Ake Svanstedt sent Pantoran right to the front, and the Walner colt bounded along happily from pillar to post in 1:57 3/5 with an effortless 28 flat end to win over another very willing colt in Magic Hill (Gingras). Timot Stable paid $110,000 to breeders Southwind Farms to secure the winner.

Svanstedt wrapped up his four-winner morning with another impressive son of Walner, putting Amazing Catch on the point through even fractions, then closing the 2:00 1/5 mile out with a 29 1/5 end into what had become a discernable stretch head-wind as the day progressed. Alfaromeo (Wallin) came through the inside to be second. Al Libfeld and Marvin & Lynn Katz own the winner, a $310,000 Lexington yearling bred by Winbak Farm.

The Father Patrick colt Security Protected (Tetrick) prevailed over four rivals, all by Greenshoe, in a front-stepping effort to win in 2:01 2/5, trotting home in 29 1/5 to hold sway over the fast close of Call Of The Wild (Sears). The winner was a $250,000 Harrisburg yearling purchased by Howard Taylor, Brad Grant and breeder Order By Stable.

On the pacing side, Mirage Hanover (Tetrick) picked right up where his brother Mad Max Hanover left off in last night's 1:47 4/5 Graduate Series leg win for the same connections, albeit 10 seconds slower, winning from the pocket behind Total Stranger (full brother to Tall Dark Stranger) as those two very good colts hooked up and were just flying the last sixteenth of a 27 2/5 final quarter. Jake Leamon trains the Hanover bred Bettor's Delight colt for Marvin Rounick, who gave $175,000 for him at the Harrisburg sale last fall.

Booming Economy (Dunn) followed along through the slow pace and blew the last turn but still mowed down the competition with a wide 26 4/5 rally through the stretch for the win over stablemate Price Of Memories (Gingras). Nancy Takter trains the winner, a Captaintreacherous colt out of the accomplished mare Economy Terror. He went through the Lexington yearling sale for $180,000 but remains in the name of the breeders - Chuck Pompey, Howard Taylor and Ed Gold.

Flawless lived up the billing this morning in the opener for Yannick Gingras, who moved the Marvin Katz/Sam Goldband homebred filly to the top just past the quarter and held sway late over stablemate Stonecoldtreachery (Dunn) through a 27 4/5 end to a 1:58 4/5 mile, both with something left. Nancy Takter trains both Captaintreacherous fillies.

In a few qualifiers after the babies, 2023 Cutler Memorial winner Venerate kinda took off with Brian Sears and dragged him through a 53 4/5 middle-half before coasting in for a 1:53 win in what could be considered the ultimate speed tightener.

2021 Dan Patch Horse of the Year Test Of Faith went around the oval in 1:51 4/5, home in sub 27 seconds, for David Miller in her preparation for the upcoming stakes season.
