Race 1 – Trackmaster Rating 74.5 or less - **$40K GTD Pick 5**
(6) TEAL HANOVER raced well last week in her second start back from a January break. She’ll likely need a smooth trip to win, but you can say that about most of these. (2) DANGEROUSPRECEDENT goes for her third straight but might not be worth her likely odds-on price. (1) CINDER RITA has been steady week after week but is somewhat unreliable on the win end lately. (9) FINNISH YOUR WAY gets stuck with another bad post. If the trip works out she can contend. (8) HURRIKANE LORI ANN makes her second start back from winter vacation and picks up Gingras. I can see her winning but I can also see her needing a race after shipping up from Florida.
Race 2 – Preferred
(6) PAPPY GO GO was in a tough spot from post eight at Yonkers. He’s back at The Big M now where he bested this class two and three starts back. (5) JOEY BATS should be pushing away from the gate with the top pick and sit a cozy trip. (4) MUSCLE DIAMOND is a very capable horse who can’t be dismissed.
Race 3 – GSY Amateur Drivers
(7) STEVE SAID is s sharp horse that was plucked out of a $7,500 claimer last time and slotted nicely in this amateur race. His early speed should be put to good use tonight. (4) REDNECK FORTUNE is another sharp horse and while you may not have heard of the driver on this circuit, she has posted a strong 4-2-0-2 record in her brief driving career. (5) PARKLANE JET has shown breaks in consecutive starts but still poses a threat.
Race 4 – Preferred – Pick 6
So you enter what seems like a good class for your horse and see (8) CAVIART ALLY is in the field. At least you get to race for a higher purse. Arguably the second best older pacing mare in the sport, Caviart Ally rarely throws in a dull effort and should be stretched out here in preparation for the Matchmaker series next week. (2) JK AMERICAN BEAUTY looked awfully good in her 4-year-old debut and lured Gingras off a good-looking Burke horse; big test vs. #8. (3) ELENIARK A raced well in her first start on these shores and could step forward. (1) IDEATION HANOVER had a solid 3-year-old campaign and qualified back well.
Race 5 – Non-winners $5,000 in last 5
You really need an advanced degree in handicapping to figure out the conditions of this race and how each horse fits. (6) CRAZY ABOUT PAT is in the perfect spot to put the pedal to the metal at the onset and wire this field. He comes with some breaking risk but should also offer good value. (1) DOT DOT DOT DASH seems to be taking a big drop in class as she ships in from Yonkers, but I’d warn that maybe there is a reason she hasn’t been on the big track since 2016; mixed feelings. (5) LIFE WELL LIVED dropped into a slightly higher class last week and raced well; threat. (4) ER SKYWALKER was very sharp last time; steps up.
Race 6 – Non-winners $7,500 in last 5 - **$50K GTD Pick 4**
(2) RENTIER gets the class relief he needs and an interesting driver change. (1) BIZET drops out of the same race as the top pick and would be no surprise. (5) HENDERSON SEELSTER rolled down the road in his return qualifier and this guy is capable of a big mile.
Race 7 – Non-winners $11,500 in last 5
(8) TOP FLIGHT ANGEL has been racing well and clearly finds a softer group this week. Team Miller charge should prove tough with any decent trip. (4) TRIXIE DUST swooped past a field he was supposed to beat last week and certainly can play with this field. (3) CARRICK missed by just a neck in this class last time. (1) MUSCLE FASHION has been facing better and could get the job done with a smooth trip.
Race 8 – Non-winners $7,500 in last 5
Like many of these, (2) JB’S SHOOTING STAR drops out of a tougher race, but she did most of the heavy lifting pressing the pace uncovered in the fastest part of the mile (27 3/5 and 27 4/5 middle fractions). This is her race to lose. (4) SUDDEN PASSING picks up Gingras here and maybe that gets her the extra length or two she needs to win. (7) QUITE A SIGHT doesn’t look great on paper but she capable given the right setup.
Race 9 – Non-winners $15,000 in last 5
This race sets up nicely for (1) KENZIESKY HANOVER with plenty of speed to her outside. Five-year-old is dropping in class and only needs a reasonable trip to have a big shot. (5) FINAL CLAIM has looked very good in 2020 with two wins. It will be interesting to see how he handles the potential of #3 and #4 leaving to his inside. He’s the horse to beat but not quite worth a shorter price. (4) VERY VERY FAST was simply not very good last week. If he reverts to previous form, he’s a clear player. (8) RESITA is a capable trip horse.
Race 10 – Non-winners $3,500 in last 5 - **$40K GTD Pick 4**
Trainer Pat Lachance excels with horses that are down in class and (5) ILANA Z TAM fits that mold perfectly. Steve Smith should be firing her off the gate here. (1) MANHATTAN PLAY also moves down the condition ladder and seems like the biggest threat. (4) STEPHANIE DEO has kept up nicely in qualifying action but might be handled patiently in her career debut.
Race 11 – Non-winners 4-7 races or $50,000-$90,000 life
(7) WINNERUP had a live trip but seemed a bit short in the stretch and perhaps that’s what caused the break as he battled between foes. He’s usually pretty sure-footed and he could certainly be sharper here. (3) GOTWUTEVERITTAKES was a decent second in this class last time and should be headed to the front. (9) GRANDMA HEIDI has been ultra-consistent in this class. (10) OBERTO is capable of sweeping the field if the pace is swift.
Race 12 – Trackmaster 74.5 or less
(8) JK KISSNTELL arrives from Yonkers and finds a great spot in the lowest condition in East Rutherford. Her lines don’t look flashy, but her last two performances show late life as trainer Juan Cano perhaps is figuring the 4-year-old out. (2) TAMIKA TERROR picked up a second in this class here a few starts back and raced well last time at Freehold. (4) RACING FOR RICK gets a driver change to Gingras and I’d imagine she’ll be put in play.
Race 13 – Non-winners $3,500 in last 5
(7) BROADWAY HALL came back from a freshening with an even effort from post 9 last week. Abbatiello has this guy in a great spot this week if he is ready to pick up his game a notch. (10) FROMMING luckily has the same Trackmaster rating as the condition of the race. He also put in a decent race off the bench and could show more. (3) INXS seems to be dropping in company out of those Saratoga races; using in Pick 4. (4) ZOE F has done well in this class in the past.
