SPOT PLAY: GRANDMA HEIDI (2nd)
The Meadowlands has adjusted its wagering menu starting tonight, so make sure to see what’s available before you wager. I’ve listed all of the multi-race wagers of more than three legs in the headers below to lend a hand.
Race 1 – Leap Year Series – NW3500 - **$25K GTD Pick 5**
(7) DEW CAN DEW hasn’t been able to seal the deal on the engine in her last two starts and might be helped here with a couple of other early speed players signed on. I’m hoping for a pocket trip behind (5) CAMPBELLINI or (10) KEYSTONE ORION. Both have plenty of early zip and decent form. Either could win. (8) NAMJE won versus similar in his last start but will need some pace help.
Race 2 – Non-winners 4-7 races or $50,000-$90,000 life
(5) GRANDMA HEIDI has been knocking on the doors for weeks but can’t seem to get inside. Now she finds herself in a new barn with co-owner Gingras at the controls in the bike. (3) RONNIE GOLDSTEIN posted another solid effort last week and should be in play once again, though I’ll be using him underneath. (2) ER SKYWALKER came up with a big effort last time and merits a look.
Race 3 – Leap Year Series – NW3500
(9) MAX VOLO is a bit of a trip horse but he does get class relief here for a barn that tends to have them ready when in the right class. (1) MUSHANA finally gets away from post 10. The form is there; no excuses. (2) DULUTH raced well in both recent starts with Dunn in the bike. (8) CRAZSHANA has loads of class and was Callahan’s choice over my top pick. I guess we’ll see who is right.
Race 4 – Trackmaster Rating 74.5 or less – Pick 6
(10) OUR ART AND HEAVEN comes off a throw-out mile from post seven at Freehold in his first try for this new barn. He sheds the claiming tag now to face a softer conditioned group and adds Dunn; expecting big early speed. (7) THUNDER DOME just missed while using different tactics in each of his last two tries. He’s clearly a player in here. (6) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE has won recent win and it came the week when Marcus Miller was in the bike. He’s back!
Race 5 – Leap Year Series – NW3500
(1) ROUNDTOWN ROCKER went through the motions last week from an outside post after getting used early in his prior start. With three divisions of this series and potentially new horses entering in leg 2 next week, he needs to show up tonight, and I expect he will be firing out. (4) FLIPPEN CREEK visits the basement condition and adds Gingras. (5) SPARK A DREAM has missed some time but the qualifier was good; price potential. (7) WILLY MOUSE drops out of claiming action and could certainly deliver in a spot like this one.
Race 6 – Non-winners $10,000 in last 5 - **$50K GTD Pick 4**
(3) MAX just missed last week versus better for a barn that has been red hot lately. (10) LAGERFELD comes off a break, but drops in class and should be firing off the wings. (6) RESITA has missed some time but qualified well enough. If he is ready, watch out! (2) INFINITI AS was flat after missing a month of action; shows more now?
Race 7 – Non-winners $7,500 in last 5
(3) TYSON looked good winning versus softer foes last week and I think he may just be able to handle the class hike. (9) LASA DIDA LADY reunites with Dunn, who won twice with him a few starts back and lost by just a head at this level. (7) MYSTICAL MOTOR comes off a win and a streak is not out of the question. (1) MUSCLE FASHION stepped up to this class last time and raced well.
Race 8 – Non-winners $6,500 in last 5
(2) LA ALWAYS AMARTINI has been trudging along from outside posts against better company at Yonkers. She drops in class, draws well and adds Dunn. (1) GLORIA PIERRE is in form and certainly capable. (6) CRACKLIN ROSIE gets a driver change a wakeup call is possible. (5) APPLE HANOVER steps up off a convincing win.
Race 9 – Non-winners $15,000 in last 5
(2) RUBBER DUCK is in shallow waters tonight and should come up big. (4) TOP FLIGHT ANGEL qualified back from nearly two months on the sidelines in fine order and we know this 6-year-old has the class. (10) VERY VERY FAST has plenty of class on his side as well and certainly has the early speed and form to overcome post 10. (6) SAY YOU DO is good enough to win on his best day; viable longshot.
Race 10 – Non-winners $3,500 in last 5 – Pick 4
(7) CAROUSEL wasn’t awful last week and this outfit tends to excels with horses dropping in class. (1) SHEWEARSTHEPANTS also moves down the condition ladder; clear player. (3) BADLILVELOCITY moves into a new barn and is eligible to improve.
Race 11 – Non-winners $5,000 in last 5
(3) FRENCH MONI moves into a barn that excels with trotters and this guy was already pretty good. This is a great spot. (7) U NEED STONES drops off a good second-place finish for a hot barn. (6) BROADWAY PROMISE and (8) BIZET can be involved with clean trips.
Race 12 – Trackmaster Rating 74.5 or less
(6) CINDER RITA scored in her second start for this barn and may keep moving forward. (10) LADYBELUCKYTONITE comes to town from Monticello in fine form and might just be up to the task. (3) TAMIKA TERROR improved last time with Ginsburg in the bike. (8) MAJOR FROST moves into a new barn and adds Dunn; worth a look.
Race 13 - $10,000/$12,500 Claiming Handicap
(7) PREPPY ART moves into a high percentage barn and didn’t race that badly last time. (3) WESTERN REDHOT and (4) I AM THE COWBOY drop a bit here as there is only one horse in the field entered for the $12,500 claiming tag. Either could break through. (9) ATOMIC REI comes off a win against lesser.
