Race 1 - GSY Series Pace - **$25,000 GTD PICK-5 POOL**
(3) PARKLANE JET tired after being used hard to make the front last Saturday. He draws well here for a high percentage barn, probably has been facing the best horses of the group, and looks logical. (8) HOWMACSBLACKJACK got on a roll in the GSY Series races up at Monticello, showing the ability to leave and finish. (9) PREPPY ART has turned into a win machine in the last few months. Surick has won with the horse before, but I will try to beat him in this type of race from the outside.
Race 2 - NW2/20000LT Trot
(7) TUVALU qualified well at the Meadowlands and then was sharp in winning down at Dover also. Looks like the one to beat. (2) CANALI was a $160,000 yearling buy who debuts tonight. He qualified against Tuvalu on 2-8 and was second-best, but you have to respect his top-notch connections. (5) I GOT THE LOOKS didn't win as a rookie but was good enough through his campaign to make the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Series final. This colt was Marcus Miller's choice of a few in here.
Race 3 - F&M TrackMaster Rating 74.5 or Less as of 2-18-20/7500CLM Pace
(2) FINNISH YOUR WAY makes her pari-mutuel debut for Pelling tonight. She didn't make much noise in that qualifier, but she was in against a stakes-caliber filly who won it, and a similar performance might be enough to beat the bottom level here. (1) TEAL HANOVER probably needed that start last week after the layoff and gets Dunn back to drive again. Look for some improvement. (7) DANGEROUSPRECEDENT finished with pace and is another one making her second appearance off the shelf in here. She gets a driver change to the hot hands of Corey Callahan.
Race 4 - NW3500L5/TrackMaster Rating 77 or Less as of 2-18-20 Trot - **$14,376 PICK-6 CARRYOVER**
(6) CHASIN' DREAMS beat much better than these last year at Yonkers. He's not exactly Mr. Reliable right now given the breaks in his last two pari-mutuel starts, but Lorentzon has a knack with the trotters, and I'll bank on her having him good to go tonight. (5) BROADWAY PROMISE went on a break in the second quarter last Friday and lost all chance. He drops and goes back to Marcus Miller, who guided him to a second-place finish two back. (7) SOUTHWIND FROST has a barn switch and a class change as he retreats from the NW4's and NW6's. He looks usable as well.
Race 5 - F&M NW15000L5/TrackMaster Rating 85 or Less as of 2-18-20 Pace
(1) JK AMERICAN BEAUTY looked about as sharp as a horse can in those qualifiers, finishing full of pace both times. She had a strong 3-year-old season and I'm expecting her to begin 2020 with a win here. (6) NEVERFORGETWHOUR went a wicked middle-half to get and then keep the lead last Friday and just missed. She'd probably welcome a little bit smoother journey tonight. (5) LILY HAMMER stretched her win streak to four by chasing down Neverforgetwhour right on the wire a week ago. She draws better here and should be in the hunt with her early foot.
Race 6 - NW6/85000LT Trot - **$50,000 GTD PICK-4 POOL**
(5) WINNERUP finished up his sophomore season with a second-place finish to eventual Breeders Crown winner Gimpanzee in the New York Sire Stakes final. He was strong in the last quarter in the qualifier, and I'll put him on top. (2) FANATIC is one of two in here for Burke. I liked his qualifier slightly better than his stablemate, so even though Gingras doesn't end up on this guy, I'll use. (9) OBERTO rallied to defeat NW6's last Friday but is stuck outside tonight and loses Callahan to Fanatic. McCarthy is a quality replacement, but he might be too far back.
Race 7 - NW10000L5/TrackMaster Rating 82.5 or Less as of 2-18-20/30000CLM Trot
(4) MARION GONDOLIER has come in second in his last two tries in this class and wound up with Gingras in the bike this time. Hopefully can get him the winning trip. (1) EXPLOSIVE RIDGE sat an inside trip from the pole position and closed well for third in a high-quality field a week ago. I think this group might be slightly easier, and he kept the inside draw. (10) RUBBER DUCK drops but also draws the outside tonight. He's classy enough to win anyway, but I'll take a stand against from post ten.
Race 8 - NW15000L5/TrackMaster Rating 85 or Less as of 2-18-20/NW8 or 110000LT/50000CLM Trot
(4) WINNING LYRIC receives some class relief tonight after fading from first-up a week ago. Maybe he can find some cover this time like in his win back on the 10th of January. (3) HAMMER TIME is another horse who has been looking for a drop and gets one. He was third at this level back on 1-24. (6) WARRIOR ONE comes off two straight wins for Burke and driver/co-owner Gingras. He makes a lateral move to this group from the NW6's.
Race 9 - F&M NW6500L5/TrackMaster Rating 79.75 or Less as of 2-18-20 Pace
(7) EXOTIC DANCE regressed last Friday, but that was a strong group for this level. I think she meets up with a field tonight she can perform better against, and should offer some value. (4) CAROUSEL was shuffled back on the far turn and then finished with interest on the cones in the stretch. I can't use on top given her win-shy record, but I think she can be put underneath. (3) SUDDEN PASSING has post relief tonight after she left from the nine-hole and then sat in last Friday. Dunn gets another shot with the Burke trainee.
Race 10 - NW22500L5/50000CLM Trot
(8) NOWS THE MOMENT is back at the Meadowlands this time after starting at Yonkers last Saturday. His best weapon is his front-end speed, so I'm hoping Ginsburg will fire him and play catch-me-if-you-can. (5) EYE OFA TIGER AS should be in position to work out a similar trip to last Friday when he finished up nicely, and maybe he can spice up the underneath prices. (7) BUEN CAMINO had trot through the stretch in that qualifier and Smedshammer goes to Dunn to drive, probably indicating the horse is ready.
Race 11 - Leap Year Series Final Trot
(2) MUSHANA aims for the sweep of this series tonight. He's handled them in pretty facile fashion thus far, and I can't see anybody turning the tables, especially since he drew inside. (1) KEYSTONE ORION finally saw his win streak snapped when he ran into Mushana a week ago. He does have the pole position to work with and definitely merits respect. (4) WINGS UP has passed foes in the final quarter the prior two weeks, and really closed well last Friday, gaining from tenth to fourth. If they mix it up on the lead, maybe he can take advantage.
Race 12 - NW7500L5/TrackMaster Rating 80.5 or Less as of 2-18-20/NW4 or 75000LT Trot
(3) OBRIGADO continues to move down the class ladder tonight. This is definitely the easiest spot he's been in since coming back, and I think the former Dan Patch Award winner should be able to find the winner's circle. (1) LASA DIDA LADY gets an inside post this time after having the eight and the nine in her last two. She closed well after gapping on the last turn a week ago. (5) LUCKY SHEILA made some noise at this level last fall and returns tonight after a layoff. Her qualifier was pretty good.
Race 13 - 7500CLM Pace
(3) REDNECK FORTUNE forged his way to the lead from first-over last Friday and then wound up second. He got claimed out of that race and was Dunn's choice in this event. (8) STEVE SAID drops from the $10,000 claimers to the $7,500 level here. Expect McCarthy to fire him out. (5) DASHBOARD kicked home with a strong final quarter last Saturday and gets the same class relief Steve Said does. He was second against $7,500 claimers back on 1-25.
