MEET STATS: 104-34-19-17 / $164.40 (-$43.60)
BEST BETS: 8-5-1-0 / $14.50 (-$1.50)
BEST BET:
U NEED STONES (3rd)
SPOT PLAY: NOTORIOUS (13th)
Race 1 – Trackmaster Rating 77.05 or less - **$25K GTD Pick 5**
I’m going to roll the dice here with (9) FUTURE DELIGHT. Connections brought a horse here last week and he stormed home to win the amateur race impressively. With the red-hot Dexter Dunn at the controls, I’m sure this gal will be put in play. (2) WINDSONG PARISIAN rallied well from the back last Friday and new trainer Paul Stafford may have figured him out. (6) GLENFERRIE BRONTE N got the jump on #2 last time and was a sharp winner. (8) ROSY OUTLOOK went too fast on the front and paid the price most recently.
Race 2 – Non-winners $15,000 in last 5
(2) MISSLAROSE didn’t have it last week, but let’s face it, no one was beating JL Cuze anyway. This is a very winnable spot for a horse that does well here and a high percentage barn. (8) THE LAST CHAPTER took a shot at JL Cruze last time and raced well in defeat. The outside post is the only issue. (4) MAGICAL BELIEFS has been racing well and now changes barns. How will she do versus some seasoned elders?
Race 3 – Non-winners $3,500 in last 5
(7) U NEED STONES comes off a strong qualifier and he’s shown up here and won in the past. Against a very suspect field, he’s a huge threat to go down the road. (4) MAJESTIC SUNSET showed some late life last time in his second start for this barn. (6) ARRAKIS was also a bit better a week ago and he has some class. (1) MAYFAIR JOHNNY B is going to wake up sooner or later with a big mile and this is a decent spot.
Race 4 – GSY Amateur
(2) BETTOR SPIRITS N picks up a quality amateur driver and outdraws the horses I’m most scared of in the race. He should be sitting in a good spot tonight. (10) I’M AN ATHLETE was a very impressive winner in this series last time and even the 10-hole might not be able to stop him with a repeat performance. (6) REAL KID looked home-free last week before #10 gobbled him up like a warm chocolate chip cookie. (7) POLAK A drops into a decent spot and has class.
Race 5 – $7,500 Claiming
(1) VILLAGE JACKSON is taking clear steps in the right direction towards hitting a good run of form. Last time he took a shot on the rim and held well. With David Miller joining the team, I’m expecting a peak performance. (3) PREPPY ART is clearly sharp now and I see no reason he won’t keep his form after the claim. (9) WALKS OF LIFE has early speed and form but can’t seem to get over the hump lately. (7) DAYLYN HORIZON picked up his game slightly with Zeron joining the team. If the pace is hot he could be coming late.
Race 6 – Non-winners $3,500 in last 5
(6) JACKAMINO is down in class and in a soft spot. Will Miller get aggressive here? (4) FRANKIE ROCKS A aired it out last time and weakened late; has a shot. (1) TITANIUM N arrives from Yonkers and moves to the basement condition with Dunn driving. (7) JK CAPTAIN JACK has been racing well and seems like a player given the right journey.
Race 7 – Non-winners $10,000 in last 5
(8) UNION FORCES destroyed a lesser field last time and really doesn’t face any killers or sharp foes here; again. (6) ZLATAN has been racing well and while it seems he is bumping up in class, he really isn’t. (2) MYSTICAL MOTOR has been racing well since coming back from vacation, but if the top one shows up, he’s racing for second at best.
Race 8 – Non-winners $10,000 in last 5 - **$50K GTD Pick 4**
This is a very competitive race on paper to start the Pick 4. (6) SKATER CHICK missed a few weeks but should be tight after chasing in a pretty quick qualifier at Philly. Three-year-old Sweet Lou filly seems to have some ability. (7) BELIEVE IN ME moves to the big track this week and could benefit considering her closing style. (2) ANNABETH also comes in from Yonkers and figures to get away in close attendance. (5) SHEZZA GNP N romped in an easier spot last time. (4) BROOKLYN LILACS won in this class two starts back and merits serious consideration here.
Race 9 – Non-winners $3,500 in last 5
(5) CRAZSHANA has been kind of going through the motions lately, chasing and racing steadily. Veteran drops down to the bottom condition now and I’ll roll the dice that he enjoys the easier spot. (4) STARSABOVEALLERAGE is more than capable of rolling down the road in a spot like this one. (8) KABU seems like a player but I fear he’ll be overbet after having some traffic trouble last time. (9) CALL FOR JUSTICE is fast enough to win if he can get his act together.
Race 10 – Non-winners $6,500 in last 5
(8) LUCKY MATTER comes to town for a live barn and seems to have found a good spot. (2) NORTHERN CREDIT didn’t fire from a tough post after more than six weeks on the sidelines. Don’t be surprised if we see much more now. (3) PIERCEWAVE HANOVER and (4) LUCKY SHEILA have early speed and both could make some noise.
Race 11 – Non-winners 4/6 races or $50,000/$75,000 life
(5) OBERTO finally behaved last time and came up with a nice effort. In a field with plenty of potential early speed types, he seems like a nice option. (8) GRANDMA HEIDI has early speed and form; one to beat but no lock. (3) CAPTAIN KRUPNIK came up empty over the half-mile track at Yonkers most recently; prior form was fine. (4) AVALONIA scored in start No. 2 for this barn. She could continue to improve but is facing boys and older foes.
Race 12 – Non-winners $3,600 in last 5
(4) CRACKLIN ROSIE looks plenty fast enough on paper and arrives for a barn that has sent out some winners at the meet. Stable has a bunch in so maybe wait to see how they do before jumping on board. (3) PARKIN IN HEAVEN gets a barn and driver change; maybe. (6) FAMILY ROLL CALL closed well last time for the Ford stable, which has been doing well at the meet. Strange that he trains this horse and owns the #7.
Race 13 – Trackmaster Rating 74.5 or less
(8) NOTORIOUS put in a credible effort in his first start for this outfit after nearly four weeks on the sidelines. I’m expecting to see even more now. (5) IDEAL SON is plenty sharp and dangerous. (3) TAILGUNNER HANOVER raced better in his second start back from a break. (2) STIMULUS PLAN needs the right trip but can blow up the board if it happens.
