Really Fast and Dexter Dunn blew out an awesome 1:51 2/5 mile in the second $48,250 division of the Tompkins-Geers for 3-year-old male trotters at the Meadowlands on Saturday night, putting himself up as a prime candidate for next Saturday's (July 31) Hambletonian eliminations. Away third as Calle Palema set the tempo through a 27 3/5 opening quarter, Dunn sent Really Fast on a strong brush to the front by the 55 3/5 half. Dunn didn't slow the pace down, and the son of Muscle Hill marched sharply to three-quarters in 1:23 4/5, losing contact with most of the field, including pocket-sitter Calle Palema. Under just mild encouragement, the Nancy Takter-trained Really Fast sprinted a final quarter in 27 3/5 to equal his career-best clocking. Really Fast's stablemate Spy Booth rallied solidly for second, with Calle Palema third in the mile. Brixton Medical, Hatfield Stables, Marvin Katz, and Al Libfeld share ownership in Really Fast, a $700,000 yearling at the 2019 Lexington Selected Sale. Sent off as the 1-2 choice, Really Fast paid $3 to win. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Ambassador Hanover and driver-trainer Ake Svanstedt, a Hambletonian eligible, likely stamped his ticket to the big dance with a solid wire-to-wire performance in the first $48,250 division of the Tompkins-Geers for sophomore male trotters. Ambassador Hanover jetted to the front into the first turn, going wide around Locatelli and landing in front through a spirited 26 4/5 opening quarter. Svanstedt didn't waste time putting the brakes on, as 3-5 favorite Venerate tucked in fourth and remained glued to the pylons. Ambassador Hanover strolled through a 56 3/5 half before Venerate put up a brief bid but not aggressive enough to force the pace to accelerate. Once Ambassador Hanover passed three-quarters in 1:25 3/5, a sprint ensued, with only On A Streak and Dan Dube having a chance to catch the winner. He fell short through a 27 second final quarter, with Ambassador Hanover winning in 1:52 3/5, a career-best clocking. As the second choice, Ambassador Hanover returned $7.40, with On A Streak second and Venerate third. Svanstedt co-owns Ambassador Hanover along with Order By Stable, Howard Taylor, and Judith Taylor. The impressively-bred Adirondack was a sharp winner in the $46,450 Tompkins-Geers first division for sophomore trotting fillies. Dexter Dunn guided the Father Patrick-Mission Brief filly quickly to the front before yielding to Hot As Hill through a 27 second opening quarter. May Karp was parked three-eighths to the front but yielded when Hot As Hill regained at the 55 3/5 half. Dunn pulled from third with three-eighths remaining and engaged the leader through a 1:25 three-quarters, towing Miss Vet Hanover into the action. Once in the stretch, the Nancy Takter-trained Adirondack asserted her will and disposed of the leader while clearly holding the closers at bay. Adirondack, owned by Diamond Creek Racing, completed the mile in 1:52 2/5, defeating Miss Vet Hanover and Awesome Trix on the process. Sent off as the 8-5 favorite, Adirondack returned $5.40 to win. "She's developing into a nice racehorse," said Takter following the race. "We've got her to calm down." Dunn swept the Tompkins-Geers filly divisions after posting an upset with 18-1 offering Eazy Pass in the second $46,450 stanza. Eazy Pass rode the pylons much of the way and looked to have little chance as Piper Hanover, the 2-5 public choice with Andy McCarthy, towed the field around the track in fractions befitting a qualifier. McCarthy had Piper Hanover cut panels of 28 1/5, 57 3/5, and 1:26 1/5, but come mid-stretch, Dutiful, a 49-1 shot, sailed right by the favorite for driver Corey Callahan. In the late stretch Dunn was able to angle Eazy Pass out, and she cruised by to a 1:53 3/5 career-best effort. Trained by Richard "Nifty" Norman, Eazy Pass, a daughter of Muscle Hill, returned $38.40 to win. Melvin Hartman, David McDuffee and Diamond Creek Racing share ownership in Eazy Pass, who defeated Dutiful and Piper Hanover.
