Pebble Beach, making his first appearance since winning the North America Cup, won a qualifying race on Saturday morning at the Meadowlands. With regular pilot Todd McCarthy calling the shots for trainer Noel Daley, Pebble Beach, a Downbytheseaside colt bred by Brittany Farms, was in the pocket through panels of 27 4/5, 56 3/5, and 1:25 set by Imaginary Line (Dexter Dunn), took command in the lane, and drew clear while in-hand to win by a couple of lengths. Fan Hanover champion Treacherous Dragon (Tim Tetrick) also won her qualifier, turning a pocket trip into a 1:52 decision over Queen Of Success (Andrew McCarthy). Treacherous Dragon, a daughter of Captaintreacherous trained by Nancy Takter and bred by White Birch Farm, scored by three-quarters of a length. In the baby races it was pretty much the Tony Alagna Show, as he won five times. Stay Hungry progeny Stormalong, a colt bred by Vieux Carre Farms and Linwood Higgins, and Caviart Marcella, a Caviart Farms homebred filly, were his first two victors, with the former winning in 1:52 2/5 for Dexter Dunn and the latter in 1:54 3/5 for Scott Zeron. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Dunn and Alagna teamed up again with Captain Van Gogh, a Captaintreacherous colt bred by Brittany Farms and Mel Hartman who tallied in 1:52 1/5, and with Heart On Fire, a daughter of Father Patrick who prevailed in 1:56 3/5. She was bred by Spring Haven Farm and Doug Millard Holdings USA. Alagna's other 2-year-old winner was Jazz In Jackson, a Muscle Hill colt who got the job done in 2:01 3/5 for Todd McCarthy. Jazz In Jackson was bred by co-owner Coyote Wynd Farms. Kayleigh S, a full sister to Joviality S who already owns a stakes win in the New York Sire Stakes at Saratoga, won her qualifier in 1:59 2/5 for Brian Sears, Marcus Melander, and owner-breeder Courant Inc., and Upnaway Blue Chip, a Chapter Seven colt bred by Blue Chip Bloodstock, won his baby race from the three-hole in 1:58 4/5 for Yannick Gingras and Domenico Cecere.
