Meadowlands: Bee A Magician caps off perfect season with a win in the Moni Maker

Derick Giwner Bee A Magician coasts home handily in 1:53 3/5.

The “Queen” Bee was likely crowned on Saturday night as Bee A Magician captured the $253,000 Moni Maker stakes at the Meadowlands and in the process completed a perfect 17-for-17 season.

Driver Brian Sears moved early from post eight but allowed both Time To Kill first and Ma Chere Hall second to clear the lead through an opening fraction of :27 2/5. Sears had Bee A Magician firmly in front before the :55 3/5 opening half and was able to back down the pace to her liking passing the three quarters in 1:25.

With Ma Chere Hall trying to gain in the stretch Sears hardly moved a muscle behind the powerful daughter of Kadabra and she maintained her advantage through the wire winning in 1:53 3/5.

Mistery Woman rallied late for third with Southwind Cocoa finishing fourth.

Trained by Richard “Nifty” Norman for owners Melvin Hartman, Herb Liverman and David McDuffee, Bee A Magician sent her yearly bankroll to $1,547,304.

Sent off as the prohibitive 1-9 favorite Bee A Magician returned $2.10 to win.

“I’ve been in the business a long time and this is my first great horse. It’s just unbelievable,” said David McDuffee following the race.

“I just wanted to get it over with,” said Nifty Norman about the last race of the season. “She does most of the work herself.”

Norman said that Bee A Magician would be turned out for three months and didn’t have a racing schedule set yet for her in 2014 but the filly will definitely return to the races next year.

Shebestingin made it 12 wins during a sensational sophomore season capturing the $167,500 Nadia Lobell in convincing fashion for driver David Miller. The daughter of Bettors Delight floated away from the starting gate as stablemate Somwherovrarainbow had the top in a :27 first quarter and waited patiently for Shebestingin to take over before the :55 2/5 first half clocking. From that point the 4-5 favorite had to take on second choice Charisma Hanover but by headstretch Shebestingin had no challengers and drew off with a :26 4/5 final quarter and a 1:50 mile.

Shebestingin returned $3.80, finishing two and three-quarter lengths in front of 45-1 shot UF Dragons Queen. Somwherovrarainbow managed to hold on for the third spot.

With division leader I LuvtheNitelife on the shelf for the season it was a moment for Shebestingin to shine, but trainer Joe Holloway sounded disappointed the confrontation didn’t take place on this night. “She was as good as she’s been all year. You never want to see anything bad happen and that other filly is a great filly,” Holloway said.
