Meadowlands: Babies, older horses qualify to kick off Meadowlands Pace day
Breakfast With The Babies, sponsored by Fashion Farms, began the Meadowlands Pace Day edition at 9:00 a.m. on a very still and humid morning with temperatures in the high 70's.
Pacing fillies opened the card and Quick E (Todd McCarthy) was a 1:58 / 27 winner from the pocket for trainer Brett Pelling. UTE Blue Chip (Tim Tetrick) cut the mile and held second over a very comfortable Southwind Guiness (Dexter Dunn). The victorious Sweet Lou filly is a Let It Ride & Bottom Line Racing homebred.
The Always B Miki filly Falana Hanover (Dunn) emerged from the pocket and edged by a stubborn Mind Blowing through the 27 second end to the 1:55 1/5 mile in the second. The Hanover-bred sold at the Lexington (LEX) sale last fall for $100,000 with Pinske Stable, Enzed Stable, Means & Kovach the buyers and Nifty Norman the trainer.
Trainer Tom Fanning sent out a winner in race three, the colt pacer Southwind Sambucca, who went all the way in 1:55 3/5 / 27 1/5 for Tim Tetrick. Combustion (T. McCarthy) closed well from fifth and last into the fast final quarter while under his own power. Southwind Farms sold the son of American Ideal for $72,000 (LEX) to Fanning and partner David Van Wort.
Wallop (Scott Zeron) was a 1:56 winner in the first of two dashes for colt and gelding trotters, moving through on the inside as stablemate Harko bore out abruptly mid-stretch. Talkin Bout You (James O'Donnell) was along for second, with Harko (Domenico Cecere) staying on for third. Cecere trains Wallop, a K R Breeding LLC. homebred son of Walner.
Polo Bar (Yannick Gingras), the full brother to Greenshoe, was out for the first time and a winner for trainer Nancy Takter. Polo Bar stalked Go Rev (Greg Wright Jr.) through comfortable fractions, then edged by through the 28 2/5 end to the 1:57 4/5 mile. Fielding, Heimbecker, Morrison & Gordon gave $140,000 for the Father Patrick colt last fall at Lexington. Katz & Libfeld are the breeders.

Scott Zeron drove Destiny's Darling to a 1:56 2/5 / 28 2/5 win for Linda Toscano, emerging from the pocket and getting by mile-cutter Exile (Gingras) late. The Chapter Seven filly is a Richard Gutnick & T L P Stable homebred.
Honest Money (Dunn) looked she was going by the leader Defacement when that rival went off-stride late stretch. Up close throughout, Honest Money took the 1:58 4/5 record in her first outing for Nifty Norman, who trains the daughter of Father Patrick. Pinske Stable, Curly Tall Curly Small and Triple Play Trotters made a winning bid of $35,000 at Harrisburg to get Honest Money last fall. Fred Hertrich III is the breeder.
Workin Ona Mystery (Tim Tetrick/Ron Burke, 1:50 3/5), Hot Mess Express (Dexter Dunn/Tony Alagna, 1:49 2/5), Donna Soprano (Daniel Dube/Luc Blais, 1:54 1/5), and Warrior One (Yannick Gingras/Ron Burke, 1:54 2/5) took the four qualifiers for older horses.
