Meadowlands: Analysis for Thursday 7/7

Derick Giwner|Jul 05, 2022
Meadowlands logo 1.5

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 215-68-50-29 / $399.00 (-$31.00)

BEST BETS: 17-11-1-2 / $42.50 (+8.50)

SPOT PLAYS: 16-3-6-1 / $11.00 (-$21.00)

BEST BET: MACHDAVID (9th)

SPOT PLAY: ANNA'S WISH (2nd)

Race 1: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Pace - Pick 5

(2) CANADIAN BALLET did nothing wrong while sprinting home with no shot after chasing slow fractions. There is no reason why this filly can't step up her game a bit tonight. (6) LISA LANE went a big mile to be third after leaving and posting a solid clip on the engine; value option. (7) UCANDOIT BLUE CHIP was ultra-impressive last week but she did have the advantage of a start under her belt which the others lacked. She can certainly win but won't be worth her toteboard odds.

Race 2: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Pace - Survivor 7

(2) ANNA'S WISH had absolutely no shot from fourth over but finished very willingly. Lazarus N-sired filly lands in the softer division and can shine with new driver Dexter Dunn. (1) WALL OF BLUE finished with good late life in her career debut while hindered slightly by greenness. That seasoning should help her performance this week. (3) SHOWMEMAGIC gets a better post to work with off a steady mile last time and Miller chose here over my top pick.

Race 3: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Trot

(6) GRAND FASHION turned in a fine performance to start her career and had absolutely no chance of winning while finishing full of late life. Well-bred daughter of Walner and Broadway Schooner can break out this week. (2) SOUTHWIND CHERRY finished just ahead of the top pick last week and certainly could be involved with some improvement. (1) QUICK STOP caught everyone napping last time and stole away from the field. That was the perfect scenario and note that she broke a step after the wire.

Race 4: 2YO Colt and Gelding Pace - Pick 6

(2) BLUE LOU turned in a very nice qualifier last time when he split horses and finished willingly behind a next out KYSS winner and a PASS second-place finisher. Showing only slow times (most recently due to a strong wind), the price could be right here. (5) HUNGRY MAN did the work on the engine and was a solid driving winner most recently. (7) TICKERTAPE HANOVER chased in a very fast mile for a baby race. Does that have him tight for this race? I'd use him at 3-1 or higher. (6) CAPTAIN PLANET finished willingly in his qualifier and could certainly show more now, though Yannick chose the other Takter trainee (#1).

Race 5: TrackMaster 70 (NW L3/5 70.5/71.75) or less

(7) SHAVIN MUG doesn't seem to find much early speed or form to his inside and figures to gun out and be in perfect position. (8) IDEAL SUSPECT and (9) SIX DAY WARS are two more with good speed on the outside and given the right trip either is capable of winning. The latter also gets a driver change to Gingras. (1) S MCKEE should get away reasonably close and if he is feeling right, could get the job done.

Race 6: 2YO Filly Pace - Pick 4

(6) CULTURED turn in a wow mile in her latest qualifier. Diamond Creek Farm may have turned out a special horse with this first foal from Fine Art. (2) DIAMONDSNPEARLS turned in a good morning effort herself and keep in mind that she faced strong stretch headwinds on June 18. (5) CAVIART LEELOO chased the top pick in her latest qualifier and put in a good mile.

Race 7: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Trot

(4) SECRET VOLO and (8) WALNER PAYTON both finished nicely with no shot after chasing slow fractions in their debut miles. Either filly could step up in this spot, though we'll lean to #4 on the post edge angle. (5) TRICK PLAY was a bit green in her last qualifier but does have some go to her.'

Race 8: TrackMaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less

(5) KINGOFTHEJUNGLE raced very well in defeat last time while way overbet. The price should rise just enough to jump on board this week. (1) FINAL JUSTICE grinded out a win versus the top pick last time but is hardly a reliable horse as the possible chalk. (6) LOVE YOURSELF ships in for a barn that has done reasonably well.

Race 9: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3/7 $3,300/$3,950) in last 5

(6) MACHDAVID gets class and post relief here. His recent efforts haven't been that bad and there will be no excuses for failure tonight. (4) NOME HANOVER stepped up his game as expected with a catch-driver along for the ride. (5) SO TAKE THAT has been a consistent performer at this track for some time. (7) SPOILERONTHEBEACH is another getting a class and post break, but he's been here before at this level and lost, albeit versus a tougher group.
