Meadowlands: Analysis for Saturday 9/2

Derick Giwner|Aug 31, 2023
Meadowlands logo (new)

FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 359-121-66-50 / $645.50 (-$74.50)

BEST BETS: 26-15-3-1 / $53.50 (+$1.50)

SPOT PLAYS: 26-7-7-1 / $58.00 (+$6.00)

BEST BET: UCANDOIT BLUE CHIP (6th)

SPOT PLAY: HOWTOTRAINURDRAGON (1st)

Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 - Pick 5

(1) HOWTOTRAINURDRAGON moves inside and picks up an aggressive driver. Don't be surprised if he wakes up with a big mile. (5) HARRY HANOVER and (7) SWEET MOVES both show somewhat recent wins in the amateur ranks.

Race 2: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races/NW 2YO & Maidens draw inside

(6) PRIDE N JOY was protected a bit last time coming off the break in her prior start. She stretches out on the big track here and may have different tactics in store. (4) DIVINE ZETTE raced well two starts back and wound up first-over last time. Facing younger tonight, she's worth consideration. (7) PRETTY DAME SPEEDY owns some ugly recent lines but also the fastest lifetime mark in the field.

Race 3: Non-winners $5,000 in last 4/TM 80 or less - Survivor 7

(8) SONOFAMISTERY hasn't gone a flat mile in a betting race this year but he's much the best if he does. Maybe Miller can right the ship? (3) HOCKEY HANOVER has done good work over this track and will certainly be forwardly placed. (4) BRACE FOR LANDING has early speed and form but faces elders tonight.

Race 4: Trackmaster 74 (NW L2/2L4 74.5/75) or less/Opt. $7,500 Clm.

(1) BAD COLT has a bad name for a horse but tackles a bad field as well. His recent lines look bad, too, but we get the best driver, first-time Lasix, and a venue change to inspire confidence of a better mile. (2) TAPESTRY also switches to the big track and he gets a barn change as well. (7) ROCKABILLY CHARM is 2-for-29 this year and could be the favorite since he's proven over the track.

Race 5: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1

(2) THE DOWNTOWN BUS was in a tough spot at Freehold and stuck in bad posts before that at Philly. With both top contenders (8) FERDINAND A and (1) TAKEITTOTHEFACE coming off breaks in action and likely to take plenty of tote action, maybe this guy offers a bit of value.

Race 6: NJ Classic 3YO Filly Pace Elim - $50K GTD Pick 4

(3) UCANDOIT BLUE CHIP is back in with the types of fillies she can handle. From the inside post I'd expect her to be near the front looking to get a top-two finish. (6) ODDS ON CINAMON typically shows early speed and has very good form. Let's see how she stacks up with this group. (1) CANADIAN BALLET returns to the Lasix program after a pair of disastrous starts in the land where the medication isn't permitted for stakes horses. Improvement is possible. (7) LIGHT AND TIGHT adds Lasix herself after stopping late last time.

Race 7: Non-winners $5,000 in last 4/TM 80.5 or less/NW $1,315 p.s. in 2023

(6) LIGHTNING LEIA drops out of some high-priced claiming races at Yonkers in her third start back from a mini vacation. This looks like a decent shot for her to shine. (3) RIGGINSWIND has high speed and has won over the track before. (8) PATTYCAKE MOOSS was racing very well in this class back in June and July but has missed a month of action.

Race 8: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 2 - Pick 6

(1) I'M BURLINGTON N was doing some great work here when the meet ended and perhaps the switch in tracks will wake him back up. (4) T DOG is clearly sharp and he might be able to take advantage of a potential fast pace. (7) BANK SEA has been very solid in these amateur ranks and best of all he plenty versatile.

Race 9: Non-winners $10,000 (NW L2 $11,000) in last 4

(2) BETTORS DONTTELL's best is clearly good enough to take care of business in this field. He's been coming up a bit short of late but may enjoy the stretch back out to the mile track. His career mark was set here last year. (6) BET A BUNDLE has the early speed to make the front and enough form to think he can succeed. (4) LOVE YOUR WORK A tends to offer good value on the board and has made his way into the number often enough.

Race 10: NJ Classic 3YO C&G Pace Elim - $50K GTD Pick 4

This race has a number of horses which could step up with a 1:50 and change mile. Which one will do so is the big question. (7) LIFES A PUZZLE should offer one of the best prices from the "capable" group. He’s had no chance from outside posts on smaller tracks lately and only needs a live trip to have a shot. (1) VICI hasn't lived up to his potential but gets an interesting barn change now. (4) STAY GROUNDED is off the best win of his career. Can he follow that mile up? (2) HANDLELIKEAPORSCHE looked like a very good horse as a 2-year-old and has been a huge disappointment this year; capable on best.

Race 11: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L6 $8,381) in last 4/TM 82.5 (NW 2L4 83.75) or less

(2) TIMESTORM is certainly in the right class and Stratton is a perfect fit for a horse like this that sometimes acts up at the start. (3) TOCCOA FALLS moves back to the big track where he has seen past success. (1) SWANS EYE had no chance from post eight at Pocono last time.

Race 12: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L2 $5,500) in last 4/TM 80.5 or less/Opt. $17,500 Clm.

(10) WILL THE WIZARD A has certainly been facing better and he gets a barn change here to Sodano. Overcoming post 10 is very possible. (2) MARCUS SEELSTER returns to the class and scene of his last win. (9) MINDTRIP has plenty of class and has been known to strong together wins when right.

Race 13: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L2 $3,300) in last 4/TM 77 (NW L2/2L4 77.5/78) or less

(2) GOTWUTEVERITTAKES took some time off and seems to be on the right track now. If he minds his manners this field is in trouble. (9) URNTROUBLE HANOVER was very good in his first start for this barn and broke last time. Which effort do we get today? (4) DISTANCE LEARNING has missed a month of action but certainly fits with these.

Race 14: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1

(2) ROCK ON LINE is an interesting new addition to the series for Verruso and he should fit nicely. (6) CLAYTONS BETTOR N has big speed and may take these a long way. (4) THNDRFRMTHETHRON N was racing in the MADC2 condition last time and this is a class drop. (9) LINCOLN BOULEVARD raced well from off the pace in his last try in the amateur ranks.
