CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 141-42-34-14 / $237.90 (-$44.10) BEST BETS: 9-6-1-0 / $17.70 (-$.30) SPOT PLAYS: 10-1-3-4 / $3.80 (-$16.20) BEST BET: EFFINGHAM (6th) SPOT PLAY: SECRET SOCIETY (2nd) Race 1: Trackmaster 68 (NW L4 69) or less - Pick 5 There really aren’t many wrong answers in this wide-open race. (1) SCANDIA HANNIBAL had no shot but paced home willingly last time from an outside post. Before that he was used too hard early in the mile. Seemingly he’s worth another shot. (2) SOCIAL THEORIES never saw the pylons last Friday. The inside post should ensure a much better trip. (3) PARKLANE TERROR came home as well as the top pick last time from a similar tough spot; inside post should help. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Trackmaster 71 Series Final/Opt. $7,500 Clm. (8) SECRET SOCIETY was trapped along the cones and had no chance to truly stretch his legs last week. Prior to that he was charging home on an off track and made a speed break. There is some ability here and best of all the chance to play him at a price. (2) OLLIE’S Z TAM had pace at both ends of the mile while losing by less than a length in the preliminary leg of this mini-series. The inside post gives him more options. (5) SEE YOU FRIDAY and (6) KNOCKIN OUT finished a nose apart for first and second last weekend and certainly figure as players in here. Race 3: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $25,000 (NW L2 $30,000) life/NW 3 draw outside/Maidens draw inside - Pick 6 (8) FRATTINA DIABLO S seems to lack dynamic speed but doesn’t mind some air on the rim and can wear an opponent down. In a field without any real killers, she can get the job done. (5) OPULENCE on the other hand can go fast but has lacked staying power. Even in her last qualifying mile she was caught from behind in the final strides. Maybe she’ll find even more in a pari-mutuel event. (4) MY PHILOMENE wasn’t bad in the Lady Suffolk to start the year but broke in her next start and was scratched sick last time with hobbles supposed to be added. She could be a sneaky player here but is almost definitely getting a conservative steer. Race 4: Trackmaster 68 (NW L4 69) or less (5) DANCNINMYSOCKS has been just ok in this class but we do get Lasix added to the equation this week. Against a very soft group I’ll take a shot that the medication makes a meaningful difference. (2) DISCO DANCER moves into a new barn, gets a new driver and lands at a different track. The time off (33 days) is the one main concern. (8) MY WISH CAME TRUE took a shot with early speed last time and raced better; same tactics again? Race 5: Trackmaster 74.5 Series Final/Opt. $10,000 Clm. (6) NATIONAL SPORT returned to The Meadowlands and perked up nicely last Saturday. He should be forwardly placed again with a big shot to succeed. (10) UWAITILLGOFIRST went a huge mile in defeat last time and while it will be difficult from post 10, if he picks up any reasonable trip a victory is possible; Boyd chose off for #1. (3) LOVETHEWAYYOULIE got a perfect drive from Chiodo to win last time and he’s feeling good right now; needs another clean trip. (8) A LITTLE KICK and (9) FIZZING N are two horses at different points in their careers. That said, both have enough form and early speed to be players, at least underneath. Race 6: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L2 $8,250) in last 5/TM 83.5 (NW L2 86.17) or less - $50K GTD Pick 4 (7) EFFINGHAM has something left at the end of the mile versus better foes last time. Look for big speed off the gate as he drops in class. (9) BEAT COP has done good work at this level and should offer great value due to the tough post. (2) BE STING drops out of stakes action where he was facing some strong foes; worth a look. Race 7: Trackmaster 77.5 Series Final/Opt. $12,500 Clm. This TM77 final is loaded with early speed and perhaps (3) GAZOO can take advantage of the situation. He should get away somewhere in mid-pack and if he lands on cover, watch out for him late. (6) MARCUS SEELSTER was a winner last week and he’ll still likely be overlooked in here. Classy 10-year-old is capable of stepping up again. (7) LMC PEANUTS WATCHN fired to the top and just missed last Saturday. He’s faster than those inside of him and that could land him in the pocket with a fighting chance if the pace doesn’t accelerate as expected. Race 8: Non-winners $15,000 (NW L2 $16,500) in last 5 or 10 (NW L2 11) races or $125K life/TM 89 (NW L2/2L4 90/91) or less - Pick 5 (7) SMOOTH DREAM has qualified back well for a trainer that tends to send them out ready regardless of what the morning efforts look like. It will be interesting to see if he can find the mojo he had last year. At least the price should be helped by the capable Karna driving. (9) SOUTH BEACH STAR decides to air it out every once in a while and this seems like one of those spots where it would be advisable. (1) ARODA N makes his big track debut after a failed attempt in the Borgata. He couldn’t keep up with Captain Albano in the qualifier but that understandable. Race 9: Trackmaster 80.5 Series Final (7) SERIOUSLY HANOVER has found his class and form since moving into the Sager barn. You know he’ll be hustled off the gate and his chances come down to how hard he has to work maintain position with other speed to his outside. (4) STOP THE SHOOTIN’ is a candidate to take advantage of a hot pace if one develops. (8) CAPTAIN MARVEL was the fastest winner in the first round. Race 10: Exit 16W Series Final for NW $15,000 in last 5 - $50K GTD Pick 4 (10) VOUKEFALAS couldn’t find room up the pylons last week and that cost him second for sure. Classy 6-year-old can edge past the million-dollar mark in career earnings with a win. (7) BEST CHIP flashed speed at both ends of the mile to post a career-best mile last week; respect. (2) DOWNBYTHEWATER hasn’t finished worse than second in quite some time; win or exacta threat. Race 11: Trackmaster 71 (NW L2 73) or less (6) XPERT adds Lasix and drops in class to face a group that seems more comfortable in TM68 than TM71. (3) CAPTAIN CARTER has rolled to easy wins in two of his last three starts. Can he handle the bump in class? He should sit the pocket here to the speedy Ferdinand A. (7) WARRAWEE XCEED is the other one moving down the class ladder. He should be very competitive. (5) FERDINAND A may deserve some attention this week with Smith taking the lines. Race 12: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L2 76.5) or less/Opt. $10,000 Clm. (2) LADYSASSIN didn’t exactly live up to the money she took in her first start for this barn. That said, they’ve had more time with her now to make things right and she could definitely find her groove. (6) COCCO PUFF POWER doesn’t have any obvious early speed to her outside and that could place her in a good position whether she shows gate speed or not. (3) CATNAP has done well in this class and could be firing out tonight. (1) PINK LUMIERE has only finished off the board once in 10 starts, all in a lower class, though. Race 13: Non-winners $2,500 (NW L2 $3,631) in last 5 (7) HALF PAST MIDNIGHT drops down and finds a field without too much early speed. I’d love to see this guy charge off the wings of the gate. (1) LOUIS LITT N takes the same minor plunge as the top pick but has been dealing with a case of seconditis this year. (5) GO VIRAL has been just ok since the barn change. Perhaps the switch to the big track will get more out of him. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 14: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $25,000 (NW 2L5 $30,250) life/Maidens draw inside (4) A PERFECT MOMENT has yet to win in three career starts but all of them came versus a much better caliber of competition. Logic would have me believe that he’ll see this group and perk up. (5) CAVIART ANDERS is another winless 3-year-old and one that has dealt with some misfortune this year. This could also be the right spot for him. (8) GANDHI is another who tried Platinum and couldn’t handle it. The NW2 he is exiting was won by a talented horse. Race 15: Trackmaster 71 (NW L2 73.05) or less/Opt. $7,500 Clm. (2) DIVIDED WE FALL bumped up to this class last week and went a game first-over mile to be third. Clearly this 4-year-old has room to move up the ladder and I’ll follow her for now. (1) STAYCATION got the big class drop last time and raced well considering the trip. She should be firing off the wings tonight. (6) AMERICAN STORY is a lightly raced 3-year-old adding Lasix. Don’t be surprised if she breaks through.
