Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 112-44-18-19 / $175.40 (-$48.60)

BEST BETS: 9-6-0-1 / $15.60 (-2.40)

SPOT PLAYS: 9-2-2-4 / $7.40 (-$10.60)

BEST BET: DON’T FENCE ME IN (10th)

SPOT PLAY: AB'SATTITUDEEXPRESS (9th)

Race 1: Kindergarten Classic 2YO C&G Trot - Pick 5

(7) COACH K HANOVER set a track record last time at Harrah's Philadelphia while coasting to the easiest of wins. Seeing as this son of Walner will likely be the second choice, I'll take a shot he can upend (4) FAST AS THE WIND. The latter raced well in the Breeders Crown and has always hinted at talent. He could be ready to take that next step. (1) CASTLE HOUSE chased the top pick home last time and tired, but he could be a bit tighter now that he's down to speed.

Race 2: Kindergarten Classic 2YO Filly Pace

(3) TREACHEROUS DRAGON was third in the Breeders Crown behind two fillies that would be 1-5 in this spot. She should be able to handle this group. (5) ALWAYS GONNA B YOU moves into Holloway's barn and certainly has the raw speed to go with the top one if at the top of her game. (1) FIND HAPPINESS faces better this week but has found her way into the exotics in 9 of 12 starts.

Race 3: Kindergarten Classic 2YO Filly Trot - Survivor 7

This appears to be an evenly matched field so we'll roll the dice with (8) BUTTERFLY FACE S. The Lucas Wallin trainee had to need her last start after missing more than four weeks, though she has been out almost three this time. Tim Tetrick in the bike is a big plus. (4) PRIMADONNA DEO switched to McCarthy and responded immediately. (6) PALERMO HANOVER is the likely favorite dropping out of the Breeders Crown and off her Red Mile lines, but I'm always leery of a horse who only has wins over the red clay in Lexington.

Race 4: Kindergarten Classic 2YO C&G Pace

(2) CAMOUFLAGE MONEY popped off a huge mile on the driver change last time at Philly and there is no reason he can't carry that over to New Jersey. (4) CAPTAINRYANMICHAEL has some questionable lines of late that may help his price here. Notice that on the big track here he has a win and a second; interesting. New York Sire Stakes champion (7) JD was freshened up for the final leg of the Kindergarten. We know he has high speed off the gate and will be a factor during the mile. (6) HUNTS POINT has been fairly consistent and wouldn't be a shock here.

Race 5: Kindergarten Classic 2YO C&G Trot

(4) PRETENDER has been keeping company with any number of horses that would be heavy favorites in this spot. Muscle Hill colt's recent lines aren't terrible and an upset seems within the realm, though this barn has been ice cold for some time. (2) CLASSIC HILL was in over his head in the Breeders Crown. This group is right up his alley. (8) STRIDE THE HILL has disappointed more than he's made people happy at the windows. That said, his best gets him into this race.

Race 6: Kindergarten Classic 2YO C&G Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

(8) HAMMERING HANK is certainly the best horse in this race, but he's already made the final and drew poorly. I fully expect that he'll be raced from behind and I still don't think it will matter. (3) PJ LOU blew away a weak field last time to pick up some confidence. This field lacks a ton of early speed and he could take advantage. (1) CAPTAIN COWBOY went a big mile when last seen, but that was four weeks ago. (7) CAVIART CAMDEN didn't pick up his game last time and he's beginning to look like a trip horse.

Race 7: Kindergarten Classic 2YO Filly Trot

Some people will look at (2) VALENTINA BLU's Breeders Crown lines and cross her out, but I wasn't expecting much in the elimination off a four-week break and the weather alone was a good excuse for her final performance. (1) DID YOU SEE LINDY has displayed some ability in limited starts. (6) BRICKHOUSE BABE raced reasonably well in the Breeders Crown and certainly has a shot in here.

Race 8: Non-winners $14,501 in last 5 or 7 (NW L3 8) races life - Pick 6

(3) CAPTAIN BARBOSSA has a couple of starts under his belt now and should be ready to post a big mile. (4) WORKIN ONA MYSTERY has been a big mystery over the last couple of years. You would think he could awaken in an overnight, right? (8) SHOOBEE DOO A raced big last week and should be flashing early speed again.

Race 9: Non-winners $20,000 (NW L3 $22,200) in last 5 or 11 races life/AE: NW $50,000 in 2021

(6) AB'SATTITUDEEXPRESS has been closing for small checks start after start while facing better foes. Even the Open race at Red Mile was against Breeders Crown winner Felicityshagwell S. This could be a good spot to get a reasonable price on a quality horse. (3) AMIGO VOLO probably deserves some slack for finishing just seventh in the Crown from post 9. Let’s see what he has here. (5) J L CRUZE will be heading to the front after a strong mile last time. (1) DUNBAR HALL is fast enough to win if given the right trip.

Race 10: Kindergarten Classic 2YO Filly Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

(3) DON’T FENCE ME IN was used through fast fractions on a sloppy track into the wind and paid the price. Let's look for a big rebound mile against much softer competition. Also note that Zeron took off a Toscano horse #2, so that speaks volumes. (2) SOMESTREETSOMEWHERE missed more than a month and still wired a field at Philly. She can be even tighter now. (5) SMUGGLE TINA has found herself in recent weeks.

Race 11: Winners 2-4 (NW L3 5) races or $50,000 (NW L3 $60,000) life

(5) BETTERROCK and (1) ULTIMAROCA appear to be pretty even on accomplishments and speed on paper. Each has posted a mile in the 1:50 range at Hoosier. Let's give the slight edge to #5 on the chance that the new barn can get more out of this son of Rockin Image. (6) TRUFFLE DOG is a consistent horse that should hit the exotics and could step up on his best. (3) MYSWEETBOYMAX had one big moment finishing second in the Adios eliminations but otherwise hasn't done much. We are probably looking at an underlay but the possibility exists that he'll show more in his second start on Lasix versus a softer field.

Race 12: Winners Over $50,000 life - Handicap

This seems like a strange spot for (7) CATCH THE FIRE since he still has other stakes assignments potentially on his radar. My best guess is that they are looking to get an easy win to build up the confidence of a horse that hasn't seen the winner's circle in a couple of months due to stiff competition. (5) MAYHEM HANOVER has gone some big miles in Canada and now moves to the Cullipher barn. He can be a threat if the top pick isn't on his game. (4) LET IT RIDE N comes off a nice win and it would be no shock if he did it again. His "A" game is good enough to beat the top pick.

Race 13: Winners 2-4 (NW L3 5) races or $50,000 (NW L3 $60,000) life

(1) HIS BEATS HANOVER won in this class last week and seems to be getting another free ride here. (7) MICKEY’S SPIRIT has the early speed to make the top in a field that seems to lack that quality. (4) EL'S DISCO JOHNNY has been better since Lasix was added and deserves a look on the switch to the big track. (10) BETTOR NOT TALK has been keeping good company. Can Zeron work some magic from post 10?
