Meadowlands: Analysis for Saturday 11/4

Derick Giwner|Nov 02, 2023
Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 83-26-12-16 / $124.80 (-$41.20)

BEST BETS: 6-6-0-0 / $23.80 (+$11.80)

SPOT PLAYS: 6-1-1-1 / $4.20 (-$7.80)

BEST BET: KARL (7th)

SPOT PLAY: SLIP SLIDING AWAY (5th)

Race 1: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L2 $5,500) in last 4/TM 80.5 (NW L2/2L4 81/81.5) or less - Pick 5

(7) CHIEF OF STAFF seems to be in somewhat soft and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an aggressive drive. (1) MINDTRIP drops down tonight and may just tap into his back class. (6) THE OPENER will probably need a start but is certainly fast enough to compete.

Race 2: $15,000-$20,000 Claiming Handicap - Survivor 7

(5) MAGRITTE makes his second start off the bench and picks up a catch-driver this time. In a field without a standout, I'll roll the dice and hope he awakens. (2) NOCH TEN has been sticking close and turning in decent miles; Dunn drives tonight! (8) HEREITTIZ and (7) LOVIN ON YOU are both closing threats if the pace unexpectedly gets hot early.

Race 3: Non-winners 2 races or $28,530 life/Maidens draw inside

(5) TOPMOST went some good miles in Kentucky and Indiana while chasing some nice horses like Breeders Crown winner Karl. He lands in a winnable spot tonight off a four week layoff and a break, so maybe all that adds up to a decent price. (3) LIFE ON THE BLUF could've been short last time after missing a month of action. Now Dunn joins the team and notice the win over the track a few starts back. (8) DUKE OF WALNER also makes his second start off the bench. Will he soon live up to the promise shown at the start of his career?

Race 4: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace Consolation - Pick 8

(4) CAVIART JUSTICE came up with a victory in this series last week and owns the most wins in the field. Kudos to Takter for sticking with Stratton with the regular drivers back in town. (5) ITS SATURDAY NIGHT charged home last week and seems to be getting better with each start. (7) WAY TO GO CAPTAIN also showed nice improvement a week ago and his arrow could be pointing up.

Race 5: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot Final

(6) SLIP SLIDING AWAY was just even in her first start in five weeks on October 20. One can expect Svanstedt will have her closer to the action this time around. (1) HONEY SWEET has won two straight and might benefit here from plenty of outside speed which could set her up from just off the pace. (7) ELOISE is likely firing off the gate and she tends to hold on for big checks.

Race 6: Non-winners $20,000 in last 4/TM 91 (NW L2/2L4 91.5/92) or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(5) CENTURY JAMILA raced very well in her first start for this barn after missing four weeks. She did very good work north of the border on the big tracks at Mohawk and should have a chance to shine here despite facing older mares. (6) KEEP ROCKIN A hasn't turned in a poor race in some time. She's the class of this race along with (1) LUCKY ARTIST A, who isn't known as a mile-track horse but seems to have found a softer division for the condition.

Race 7: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot Final

(10) KARL rolls into town off a Breeders Crown win and should win for fun. (2) WINTER SOLDIER is an off-the-pace sort who should benefit from patience while others try to chase the top pick early. (1) MOSQUITO goes for the hat trick tonight. He's likely looking at second as his ceiling.

Race 8: Non-winners $10,000 (NW L2 $11,000) in last 4/TM 86.5 (NW L2/2L4 87/87.5) or less - Pick 6

(1) STONEBRIDGE REEF took some air and raced tough in his first start since August. Price should remain reasonable with Ryder in the bike. (7) P L OZZY was bad in his return race but qualified back sharply. Maybe the ship is on course now. (6) BB LUCKY BOY blew out a big mile last time and is certainly capable of doing it again despite the better competition.

Race 9: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace Final

(2) TARRIFIC gets a positive driver change this week, and notice Dunn chose here over #9. While she remains winless on the year, she's done enough to feel getting over the top is very possible. (8) CAVIART BELLE has been tackling much better foes out of town. I imagine we'll see more aggressive tactics this week. (6) SARASOTA HANOVER added Lasix and won last time; one to beat. (9) PRESSURE COOKER was unlucky at the draw but has only been off the board once in 10 career starts.

Race 10: Non-winners $20,000 in last 4 or 10 races life/TM 92 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(1) CHRISTCHURCH does his best work from off the pace but has been racing from behind versus the best 3-year-olds in the game. Moving into a conditioned race, perhaps Dunn will push on the gas pedal early. (4) SOUTH BEACH STAR continues to post a huge season. He's been first or second 16 times in 23 starts. (7) SOUTHWIND GENDRY just can't seem to take the next step to stakes horse in the older ranks. That said, this field is up his alley.

Race 11: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace Final

(2) LOU VUITTON posted a sharp score last time and is nicely spotted on the gate to sit just off the mid-pack speed. (10) HUNTINGFORCHROME did his best last week from an impossible spot. I wouldn't be shocked if Bongiorno blasted off the gate here. This horse definitely has some ability. (5) COURTSHIP goes for the Kindergarten hat trick. Notice his last loss came to a good one in Captain Albano.

Race 12: Non-winners $7,500 (NW 2L4 $8,250) in last 4

(2) CONTROL HEAVEN does his best work near the front and Tetrick seems likely to have him in good position. (7) ART SCAPING raced well versus a runaway winner off the bench and could show more here. (1) EUPHORIA N has gone good miles from outside posts at Freehold and was keeping good company at Yonkers before that. This really should be a good spot for him and trainer Vallee calls on a catch-driver.

Race 13: Non-winners $10,000 (NW 2L9 $13,001) in last 4/TM 85.30 or less

(4) TOCCOA FALLS has done some good work over the track in the past and Zeron should get a good pace to rally into with some early speed to his outside. (5) KILIMANJARO NL coasted to the easiest of wins in his qualifier and he may just be the real deal. (2) SWAN CAPTAIN lands in a decent spot and adds Gingras to the team. (6) SERMON is proven over the track and in this class, though he doesn’t always behave.

Race 14: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L2 $5,500) in last 4/TM 80.5 (NW L2/2L4 81/81.5) or less

(4) GOOD ROCKIN is a horse that perhaps will benefit from the time on the sidelines. The return qualifier was solid and this field is far from great. (2) RIFLEMAN drops a notch and has a good post to sit close and pounce. (1) AGEDCHEDAR HANOVER finds a field without much early speed and that should have him in position to succeed.
