Meadowlands: Analysis for Saturday 11/19

Derick Giwner|Nov 17, 2022
Meadowlands logo (new)

FALL MEET STATS: 118-32-19-20 / $187.30 (-$49.70)

BEST BETS: 9-7-0-0 / $41.60 (+23.60)

SPOT PLAYS: 9-0-1-3 / $0.00 (-$18.00)

BEST BET: TATTOO ARTIST (10th)

SPOT PLAY: LEON DAVID (12th)

Race 1: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L3 $8,250) in last 5/TM 83 (NW L3/5 83.5/84) or less - Pick 5

(4) THREE IN HEAVEN A was taken back at the start and paced home willingly even though he was technically passed late in his U.S. debut. He drops a notch here and should be expected to show a lot more this week. (8) CALIBER and (6) IMAGINARY LINE have both turned in good races in this class recently, though there seems to be plenty of early speed in here that could hurt their chances.

Race 2: Winners 2-4 races or $50,000 life

(4) ANDRES HANOVER raced very well off the bench but not quite as good in his second start. Lasix is added now and perhaps that is the missing piece to the puzzle. (5) PICK A GENRE comes off a win over the track after sitting a sweet trip. (8) STONEBRIDGE REEF was a bit flat after missing more than six weeks of action. His best beats these; using.

Race 3: Non-winners 2 (NW L3 3) races or $20,000 (NW L3 $30,000) life/Maidens draw inside - Survivor 7

(6) BOUNTY HUNTER was keeping stakes company until his last start when finishing second in a quick mile. He should be firing to the front with a big shot here. (4) RESTAURANT BULLY is clearly fast enough to win and his victories came on the big track at Hoosier. (5) SLICK RICHARD could be short after missing time but fits in this class nicely if ready.

Race 4: Non-winners $10,600 in last 5 or TM 86.9 or less

(3) STONE HANOVER wasn't winning from post 10 on the drop to this class last time. Post three should ensure a much better trip. (2) PASSA-GRILLE BEACH was a bit headstrong and moved prematurely last time. He held well in that race and could be a big threat here with a better trip. (6) CAPTAIN FANCY closed from the parking lot last time to be third. (1) ON ACCIDENT was blocked late two starts back and finished well from way back last week. At big odds he could be worth a look.

Race 5: Valley Victory elim (Top 8 make final)

(8) CELEBRITY BAMBINO took care of business in the Garden State last time and should be firing to the front here with a good post in the final on the line if he wins. (5) PURPLE LORD chased home a killer last out and has been very consistent of late. (1) KIMMERIDGIAN chased the top pick last time through slow fractions and trotted home willingly.

Race 6: Governor's Cup elim (Top 5 make final) - $50K GTD Pick 4

(3) ACT FAST added Dunn and turned the corner at Dover last time in what was a powerful mile. I'll ride the train another time despite facing a good field here. (2) AMMO deserves some respect off his Breeders Crown victory. Sweet Lou colt is clearly talented. (7) EL REY was withdrawn from the Harrisburg sale after a late-season awakening that made his connections change their minds. Go watch the 11-12 qualifier where he uncorked a 25 3/5 final quarter to pass #1. Wow! Problem is that with the new PP formula being used for the final, second or third is just about as good as first, which means an off-the-pace trip is likely. (1) COMBUSTION raced well in the Breeders Crown and certainly has a shot with the right trip.

Race 7: Governor's Cup elim (Top 5 make final)

(6) SAVE AMERICA came up short in the Kindergarten final but perhaps that can be chalked up the three-week break or throat surgery he had after flipping his palate in the Breeders Crown elimination. His best is clearly best in here. (3) HANDLELIKEAPORSCHE has gone miles which would make him a contender but right now I have questions. (1) DUPREE HANOVER has done good work in qualifiers and just needs to transfer that to the real thing.

Race 8: Preferred Trot - Pick 6

(3) IT’S ACADEMIC is not the best horse in this race but he's certainly sharp and perhaps more interested in taking home the winner's share of this purse while others eye the TVG finals next weekend. (1) BELLA BELLINI is going to set up shop off the pace and will only win if the trip works out. (2) JUJUBEE rarely races from behind, so at least you know he'll be in contention. The problem is he hasn't turned in a big mile outside of The Red Mile in 2022.

Race 9: Three Diamonds elim (Top 8 make final)

(2) CULTURED came up a bit short after a first-over bid in a pretty quick mile last weekend. She has a nice post edge here on (10) STRONG POISON, who looks like the horse to beat despite the 10-hole. Gingras seems likely to put her in play and at least try to earn a bye by winning. (8) ZANATTA has early speed in her arsenal and fresh Lasix is added. She could get a piece here at big odds with "double-digit Dube" in the bike.

Race 10: Preferred Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

(7) TATTOO ARTIST is clearly heading to the front and seems unlikely to get much resistance. Five-year-old seems like a legitimate odds-on favorite given the circumstances. (5) NO LOU ZING could be sitting pretty in the pocket or lined up second over from this post. Perhaps he'll even step up for new connections. (3) LOU'S PEARLMAN adds Dunn and maybe he can get the best out of him.

Race 11: Non-winners $10,600 in last 5 or TM 86.9 or less

(5) LETSGOTOBRAZIL A was spectacular last week as he drew off to win by more than five lengths. While this is a giant step up in class, he seems sharp enough to handle it. (1) TRUFFLE DOG wasn’t bad in his first start in three weeks last Saturday. He's back on a seven-day rotation now and could show even more. (4) THE CLAW returns to the scene of his fastest win.

Race 12: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L3 $5,500) in last 5/TM 81 (NW L3/5 81.5/82) or less

(6) LEON DAVID closed very well up the pylons last week with no shot after starting from post 10. He drops a class in his second start back from vacation and could be ready for a big mile. (2) ROCK STEADY RON raced evenly upon arrival and finished on the wire with the top pick last time. (7) LUC ROCKS was a decent sixth from post 10 versus slightly better in his last try here.

Race 13: Non-winners $20,000 (NW L3 $22,000) in last 5 or NW 8 (3yos) races life/TM 92 or less

(3) TORONTO is as fast as any in this field and now he has a couple of races under his belt. At 3-1 or higher he seems like a viable option. (7) LUNAR came to town and proved game in victory. (1) LITERL LAD HANOVER motored home last weekend for second. As long as he doesn't face traffic issues, he should be involved. (6) SONNY WEAVER N gets class relief and adds Tim Tetrick.

Race 14: TrackMaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less

(6) TENTHOUSAND ANGELS finds a field ripe to be beaten by a wire to wire winner and she seems like the most obvious candidate. (3) OOH REAL GOOD has drawn a string of bad posts on a smaller track that has hurt her chances of success. (9) FAITHFULDAWN moves into a new barn and adds Dexter Dunn; hard to ignore. (1) MILADY DENVER A hasn't been able to close on smaller tracks lately and could enjoy the switch to the big track.
