FALL MEET STATS: 126-42-20-20 / $277.60 (+$25.60) BEST BETS: 9-5-1-1 / $14.40 (-$3.60) SPOT PLAYS: 9-4-1-2 / $28.00 (+$10.00) BEST BET: SIGNAL CALLER (9TH) SPOT PLAY: JK BLACK GOLD (13TH) Race 1: $7,500-$10,000 Claiming Handicap - Pick 5 (9) LYONS LIBERTY is back at The Big M again and he’s seen plenty of success here, including multiple victories at claiming levels a couple of notches higher than this one. You have to think he’ll come to play tonight. (3) COLOSSAL STRIDE A couldn’t leave fast enough and wound up hung every step of the mile last time. The trip can’t possibly work out that badly again. (8) FREDNECK fired to the front and felt constant pressure from #3 in a good mile. You have to think similar tactics will be employed. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L2 $5,500) in last 5/TM 80.5 (NW L2 82.5) or less (6) MEDLEY SEELSTER has swept through a series at Mohawk without much trouble and the times certainly stack up nicely. She should be sent to the top again and have a big chance unless the real (2) FOR JULY decides to show up. The latter qualified nicely for the new barn. He’s been facing much faster foes and is clearly the best horse in the field in terms of raw ability. (4) INFERNO DK was better than the line looks last time as he finished up willingly; class drop but competition is still strong. (3) PRINCE ARCHIE had an interesting trip and stretch traffic last time. I fear he’ll be overbet off a very nice line. Race 3: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $20,000 (NW L2 $30,000) life/Maidens and 2YO draw inside - Survivor 7 (5) LAZARUS STAR hasn’t been seen in over eight months but did qualify nicely as he chased a stablemate with plenty of class and speed. Four-year-old faces exclusively younger tonight for a sharp barn that should see the opportunity and have him ready; Miller drives! (1) MIGHTY MATT took a shot in the Big Apple and was a bit in over his head. I wouldn’t hold those performances against him. (7) TWIN B FRESH BET qualified well within himself last weekend. While he hasn’t done much to date in his career, this seems like a good spot. Race 4: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L2 76.5) or less (10) NATIONAL SPORT came up flat from fifth over in his first start in two months. He draws poorly again but doesn’t exactly face a group of killers while racing in a class where he’s had success. (1) CAPTAIN CARTER should be able to stick close without working too hard tonight. (5) REASSURANCE had to wait for room and paced home willingly between horses last week. Four-year-old has now improved in consecutive starts for the new barn. (2) I’M A CAPTAIN drops down and adds Bartlett to the team. Race 5: Winners 2-4 (NW L2 or 3YO 5) races or $50,000 (NW L2 or 3YO $60,000) life (5) COURTS ON FIRE is the only horse in the field with consistent stakes experience and he also has the early speed to make his own trip. Gingras figures to put him in play despite having another speedster in (4) TOM HORN to his inside. The latter has found himself after hinting at talent through many losses. Five wins in a row is on the table. (1) RYDINGTOTHEWIRE was so game last time when coming uncovered and met with a fresh late challenger. The form looks great but the trip might be similar versus a tougher group. (2) DON’T DROP THE BALL is capable of waiting and sprinting. He’ll need some pace help. Race 6: $125K Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot Final - $50K GTD Pick 4 (1) BUSY MISS LISSY S was impressive first over in the final leg of this series and that’s not her only successful try this year and she’s won five of seven starts. Inside post gives Ahle options to sprint away or try an early brush. (4) CAVIART QUEEN EMMA saved ground and had plenty left in the lane in her first start in more than six weeks. Trainer Nancy Takter has taken her time with this gal and perhaps the patience will pay off here if the pace setup is good. (6) DENARIUS is another one with plenty of wins and her only dull try came from post nine versus much better in the Breeders Crown; major player. (5) ALL TIME TROT S worked out a perfect trip and won easily last week; another contender. Race 7: Trackmaster 86 (NW L2 88) or less/Winners TM83 last start (3) IT’S IN THE STARS raced parked with cover the entire mile last week and still almost pulled it off versus a classy foe in Southwind Gendry. He stacks up nicely in here and should have options with two sharp foes to his inside. (5) STORM THE COURT has speed and form. This is a step up in class but not an insurmountable one. (2) DUKE OF CORNWALL N missed quite a bit of time and took a few starts to get in gear. Now he goes for three straight and certainly has a reasonable chance. (4) CAPTAIN MARVEL is worth a look adding Tetrick. Race 8: $125K Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot Final - Pick 6 (6) MAGIC PUNK has been worse than second once all year and that came when he raced first-over into a slow pace. He finds no clear early speed to his outside tonight and should be the last of the leavers to the top. Note he missed six weeks prior to his last start and still raced very well. (2) PRACTICAL MAN made two moves to get a pocket trip and was second best last weekend behind a horse that made one late move. This guy has proven that he can sit and pounce. (5) LINDY LIVING also returned from a six week break and put in the best mile of his career. He was a very comfortable second behind the top pick and perhaps this son of Walner has figured things out. (9) HIGHBALL HANOVER has no shot last time. There is ability here if McCarthy can work some magic from a tough post. Race 9: $125K Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace Final (2) SIGNAL CALLER may not be the smartest horse in the race but he’s certainly the fastest. McCarthy hops back in the bike and he only needs a reasonable pace to gun these down. (5) TOAST OF THE TOWN has a bit more versatility than some of the others and that could serve him well. It’ll be interesting to see if Todd McCarthy elects to show early speed and pace around (4) BOOKIE J, who races on the lead most of the time but doesn’t have a super-fast burst off the gate. The latter will be the favorite and I’m not sure he’s worth a short price. Race 10: Non-winners $12,500 (NW L2 $14,000) in last 5 or $15,725 in last 5/TM 88 (NW L2 90) or less - $50K GTD Pick 4 (3) EL REY was ambitiously placed in the Breeders Crown with just two starts under his belt this year and the results were perhaps as expected. Classy 5-year-old is in a much better spot now and he can fire out while sitting no worse than second. (7) MAD MAX HANOVER does his best work when he can make the top because he simply battles hard through the wire. This may be a good opportunity for him to try those tactics in a short field. (2) SOUTHWIND GENDRY got brave on the lead himself last time and flaunted his class. I wouldn’t be shocked if he won again. Race 11: $125K Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace Final (6) PRTYNPROUD HANOVER has a pretty nice record for a horse that will be a longshot here. She won her first start with Lasix and really wasn’t short last time (came home in 26 3/5) despite missing six weeks. She seems like a legitimate closing threat and I don’t mind at all that Bartlett chose elsewhere. (5) DARLIN’S ANGEL has been on fire lately with four straight wins including an impressive wire to wire score last time. I admit she’s impressive but hasn’t been tested yet and will be the favorite. (4) ON HEIR exits stakes action and did win her last Kindergarten try; player. (1) CAR KEYS hasn’t figured out how to win yet but is around at the end most weeks. Race 12: Trackmaster 77.5 (NW L2 79.55) or less (1) OLLIE’S ZTAM made two moves to get command and proved very sharp in victory last Saturday. This race sets up nicely for him to show similar tactics and perhaps extend his win streak to three. (7) MARCUS SEELSTER is no stranger to this track or class. Recent efforts out of town were good and he’s certainly a contender. (5) LYONS PEGASUS was certainly overdriven making a second move to the front around the favorite last time. (4) PYRENESS HANOVER doesn’t look very good on paper but is getting clear class relief. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 13: Non-winners $2,500 (NW L2 $3,406) in last 5 (8) JK BLACK GOLD returns to The Meadowlands at a reduced level and while the form isn’t apparent, there is a huge chance he’ll awaken. (2) ALTA BLUES A makes his fourth start back from a break in action and second back after missing a month. Finally on a regular schedule again, he should be put in play. (4) HAGGARD isn’t flashy but tends to find his way into the number in the lower classes like this one. (6) TRUMPSTER BLUES finished mildly from a tough spot as cover didn’t advance last week. Race 14: Trackmaster 71 (NW L2 73) or less (8) SONO CONFUSO drops on the Trackmaster scale and has the early speed – even if you can’t see it lately – to fire off the gate to the front. (9) SPIRIT OF TRUTH gets the same class relief as the top one and he has a pretty good overall record in this class. (4) SELECT FRIDAY hasn’t done much since joining this barn but did suffer a tough trip in latest.
