CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 359-125-53-44 / $661.70 (-$56.30) BEST BETS: 26-12-6-1 / $50.60 (-$1.40) SPOT PLAYS: 25-4-3-7 / $45.20 (-$4.80) BEST BET: CAMBRIDGE HANOVER (4th) SPOT PLAY: PATRONA (7th) Race 1: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L2 76.5) or less - Pick 5 (5) MIDNIGHT LIGHTNING is a sharp amateur horse moving into a regular overnight and picking up the current Driver of the Year. Veteran seems like a very obvious winner. (9) NATIONAL SPORT drops down to the level of a decisive three-length win a few starts back. The outside post isn’t ideal but he’s hard to leave off your Pick 5 ticket. (1) LOU ON THE BEACH is another picking up a top driver who has an opportunity to improve. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot Let’s take a shot here with (5) SPENCER HANOVER. The son of Chapter Seven chased NJSS Final favorite Diabolic Hill in his lone qualifier and then has gotten in against multiple track record-holder AI in NYSS action. This $450K colt has a chance to prove himself here. (1) WHO’S EYES BETTER has won two straight including a leg of the Kindergarten. He’s a horse trainer Ron Burke called potentially better than AI. (3) PRACTICAL MAN has gone two steady miles here and is certainly eligible to show more. (7) MAGIC PUNK comes off a confidence building win at Philly and actually went off favored when last here. Race 3: $180K NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Pace final - Survivor 7 (1) BE PERFECT BG has been perfect with four wins in four starts. Both of her efforts here have been spectacular and it is hard to imagine her losing unless one of the others fire a career-best mile. (3) PERFECT THOUGHT chased the top pick nicely in her debut performance and picked up a win when that foe elected to rest last weekend. Megan Scran-trained filly has some talent. (5) NAPALM has been throwing out some big final quarters. If the pace is somehow a second faster to three quarters then in recent miles, I wouldn’t be shocked if she won. (4) SUNNY STATION followed the top pick for second two starts back but broke last time; capable of contending on best. Race 4: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot (2) CAMBRIDGE HANOVER overcame post 10 nicely to finish third in his career debut while losing to the 1-2 favorite and another foe that got the jump on him. He moves to the inside of the gate here and has a big shot. (7) AI is undefeated and picked up a pair of track records along the way in New York. Those great efforts all came over half-mile tracks and it will be interested to see how his talent translates to the mile oval. (4) MINOAN rolled at The Meadows three weeks ago and was even in his last try here. Maybe he’s sharper with the win under his belt. Race 5: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace (3) JK FIERCE LADY qualified very nicely and then scratched sick in her potential debut at Pocono. A week later she was on the track and stormed home to win in 1:54 1/5. Captaintreacherous-sired homebred should only improve with that start under her belt. (4) PAPCRUH chased nicely as the chalk when here two starts back. Her best would make her a contender. (5) PRTYNPROUD HANOVER moves into a new barn as she ships in from Ocean Downs off three straight wins. Who knows how good she is at this point? Race 6: $225K NJ Sire Stakes 2YO C&G Pace final - $50K GTD Pick 4 (7) REINCARNATED was super in his first start here but was used to the front and came up wanting late in the mile last time. Lasix is now being added and perhaps that explains the lack of a late kick. Price should be better this week than his previous start. (4) SONOFANUTCRACKER went to the front, yielded to the top pick and was a game winner last time out. Son of Nutcracker Sweet can put his sire on the map with a win here; big shot. (2) ROCKNACIOUS is another who looked solid two starts back but came up flat in the late stages most recently. I’ll expect a turnaround. (6) BOOKIE J rated soft fractions and dug in last weekend. The trip won’t be quite that easy this time around. Race 7: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot (6) PATRONA left well in her debut and was just steady in the lane. Some people will count that as a so-so mile but she did have traffic trouble and 2-year-olds don’t start and stop great. It was also her first start in four weeks. (2) ISLANDGIRL HANOVER has improved in each start and is coming off a nice 1:55 1/5 at Philly. A repeat of that mile makes her tough in here. (10) ABBESS saved ground and sprinted home impressively for the win to start her career but didn’t have the same late kick after being used twice in the mile last time. Can she work out a winning trip from post 10? (4) BUSY MISS LISSY S is perfect in two starts but hasn’t defeated much. Race 8: Continentalvictory 3YO Filly Trot - Pick 6 (4) TACKY SUGAR faces the easiest group she has seen all year. Her last race against Yo Tillie is a toss and her prior effort when she broke can fall under the same umbrella. Dunn should send her to the front or sit the pocket here. (2) TABDONE has only been worse than second once in her career and you know she’ll be close to the action. (5) BIZZY BRENDA is a check machine with nine career in-the-money finishes in 13 starts; using underneath. Race 9: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace (4) ON HEIR absolutely coasted to a sharp score in her last qualifier and it’s a bit rare for a Daley trainee to show off like that in the morning. They paid $170K for her at Harrisburg and she seems ready to roll. (3) FABULOUS HANOVER just missed in a nice mile in her debut. The qualifier before she made a break aborting a leave. There seems to be some ability here. (5) CRUNCHALOUS put in her best effort of the year over this track. Race 10: Hambletonian Amateur Drivers - $50K GTD Pick 4 This is one of those amateur races where I can see things getting wild. Most of these horses don’t have much form and there is definitely plenty of potential early speed in the field. I’ll try (2) CRYSTAL FASHION. Double millionaire has seemingly lost a few steps at age 10 but might enjoy the slower speed expected as he exits regular conditioned races. (3) VOCALIZE put in a steady mile in his first start since October. Any small step forward would make him a factor. (4) HUNTERS GAL comes off a nice mile here last weekend and he could be a beneficiary if the pace is indeed hot. Race 11: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot None of these really jump off the page for me. I’ll try (7) DENARIUS off a pair of good qualifiers at Plainridge with the trainer in the bike. Filly is a half-sister to Kilmister (1:50 3/5, $832K), who was a 1:52 3/5 winner at age 2. Notice Dunn chose here over a Takter trainee and Melander charge (3) NOBLE ENCORE, who was perhaps aimed a bit high in the top level of the PA Sire Stakes. This spot seems easier. (5) CAVIART QUEEN EMMA raced from behind and closed good ground late at Philly to start her career. She can show more now. Race 12: Hambletonian Amateur Drivers (3) CRAIGIEBURN has been racing pretty well of late and he should get first run at a hot pace if the #9 and #10 fire off the gate as expected. (9) CAL MILES N SHELL has found himself at Pocono. If he can make the top without too much trouble and repeat his mile from last week, watch out! (10) C KAN TROT has won two straight but has to figure out how to make the top with #9 likely leaving to his inside. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 13: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace (7) WATCH EM WIN caught a very tough spot in his debut from the second tier but drew better against softer at The Meadows and rolled to an impressive score. He should have the opportunity to push away from the gate tonight and get into the race earlier. (4) SIGNAL CALLER raced well here in his debut before making a miscue at The Meadows. Don’t give up on him after one bad mile. (5) TALBOT ANDRETTI rebounded from a break in his first try to get second here last time. (8) OCEAN B comes off a scary “scratched-injured” line but has talent and I wouldn’t hesitate to take a shot if the price was double-digits. Race 14: Trackmaster 71 (NW L2 73) or less (1) RAPTORS FLIGHT N returns to the Big M where he was racing well about four weeks ago. He should get away close and have a chance to brush to the front. (4) SERGEANT WALT blew away slightly cheaper last time and could step up here. (5) PARKLANE TERROR was second in a fast mile last time and prior to that was a winner down a level.
