Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 7/9

Derick Giwner|Jul 07, 2021
Meadowlands logo (new)

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 241-81-45-43 / $463.20 (-$18.80)

BEST BETS: 18-5-7-1 / $16.80 (-21.20)

SPOT PLAYS: 18-6-5-2 / $41.40 (+$5.40)

BEST BET: ART SCAPING (8th)

SPOT PLAY: EXTRAORDINARYLADY S (3rd)

Race 1: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Trot - Pick 5

(2) PENELOPE J has the looks of a special filly. She certainly had some anxious moments drifted out on the backstretch but settled down nicely to sit the pocket and get the job done versus a foe who broke in deep stretch. (1) MAGIC CAN HAPPEN displayed a quick turn of speed off the gate which should help her gain valuable position here. She also passed a horse in the stretch to her inside, which is another good sign. (8) DELILAH HANOVER trotted home strong with no shot in her debut. If she can be kept closer, watch out!

Race 2: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Trot

Lots of talent in this group! (6) PEYTON HANOVER was raced conservatively again last week and closed in nicely late. With about 30 fillies competing in this series thus far, they are going to have to loosen the reins sooner or later to make the final. Plenty of talent here! (5) RAISED BY LINDY took a bit of a shuffle in her last qualifier and finished up willingly. She could offer some value here. (3) GRACELYN HANOVER just missed in a good effort while beating the top pick last weekend. (2) BRICKHOUSE BABE sprouted wings as she blew past the field in her pari-mutuel debut. That said, overall this is a better group.

Race 3: 2YO Filly Trot - Survivor 7

(2) EXTRAORDINARYLADY S finished up willingly in her lone qualifier for Svanstedt and she doesn't exactly catch the best group from what I've seen in the morning trials. Notice she lost to first-out 1:54 4/5 winner Venerable and tonight Yannick drives! (1) MORE THAN EVER did qualify nicely but is going to be bet off the board in this spot. (4) DANZNQUEEN HANOVER did nothing wrong in her lone start. She's a full sister to $377K earner Dip Me Hanover.

Race 4: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Colt Trot

(5) KEN'S WALNER couldn't have looked more impressive winning his second qualifier. Walner colt posted decent fractions and sprinted clear without being asked. (4) STAMPED BY LINDY also qualified very well, drawing away from his foes on his own; should offer some value. (7) TEMPORAL HANOVER has yet to taste defeat in three trips to the track but will certainly get tested here.

Race 5: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Colt Trot

(2) KING OF THE NORTH has a great name, great breeding and has looked ultra-professional on the track. One of these would have to step up in a big way to defeat him. (6) WILY WALLY was absolutely loaded in the pocket and exploded to a sharp win in his June 26 qualifier. He's worth consideration at a price. (4) LAWS OF MOTION has one spectacular qualifier and two breaks in three appearances. Which horse shows up?

Race 6: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Trot - $50K GTD Pick 4

(5) VENERABLE worked out a perfect pocket trip in her pari-mutuel debut and won completely wrapped up. She seems to have an edge here. (2) MEDLEY won her latest qualifier very easily while shut down late. Walner homebred from Libfeld/Katz could be an interesting value play. (6) GARDEN STATE DEO blew out a strong mile at Northfield. How will that translate here?

Race 7: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Colt Trot

(4) CLASSIC HILL chased home King Of The North in each of his last two appearances and should enjoy this field a bit more. (2) B A SUPERHERO was a solid second to start his career. Mom won $1.59 million on the track and has sent out four winners. (5) MAJESTIC J took care of business to start his career and clearly will be a threat here.

Race 8: TrackMaster Rating 77 (NW L3 77.5 or 3YOs 79.65) or less - Pick 6

(1) ART SCAPING couldn't have hand-picked a better field to face tonight. Three-year-old sneaks under the top end of the conditions and has no excuses for failure. (5) MARVALOUS ONE rallied nicely last time and should only be helped by the addition of Dexter Dunn in the bike. (6) MR MCDREAMY and (8) TITUS SEELSTER possess early speed in a field that seems to lack that quality.

Race 9: TrackMaster Rating 82.35 to 86.30 /Non-winners $9,000 (NW L8 $11,000) in last 5

(5) SWEET LUCY LOU takes a HUGE drop in class and really should take care of business. If she comes up flat, it is really anyone's race. (2) ALICORN was a talented 2-year-old that hasn't been the same in years. She did qualify back well and raced well in her first start since December. Maybe she shows more now. (10) MAJOR BATTLE has enough tactical speed to get position and is certainly in form. (4) BE BEST also has the early speed/form combination to her credit.

Race 10: Winners 2-4 (NW L3 5) races or $50,000 life/NW 1 race since 2/13/21 - $50K GTD Pick 4

(7) NOTORIOUS PINK was really driven out in her qualifier, which tells me they are likely going hard here a week ahead of the Mistletoe Shalee. (3) NORTHERN STORM returns to the big track where she won her last two straight. (5) WATCH ME NOW N didn't wow in her qualifier but does have some Down Under credentials. I wouldn't be shocked if she came to play.

Race 11: Non-winners $6,000 (NW L3 $6,600) in last 5

(3) GOTWUTEVERITTAKES has raced well in his last two starts and has proven himself a number of times here in the past. This isn't an easy spot but one that he can certainly handle. (2) PAPPY GO GO moved back into the Harris barn and put in an even mile. Veteran could be ready to show more this week. (7) GOES DOWN SMOOTH raced better in his second start back from vacation and could be ready to fire off the gate this week.

[DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Meadowlands card at DRF Bets.com!]

Race 12: TrackMaster Rating 78.03 to 81.90/TM 82 or more draw outside

(8) WESTERN REDHOT was looped away from the gate last time versus a tougher field and lacked a stretch rally. He can make the top in this spot and sit no worse than the pocket. (6) ALWAYS A FORCE is certainly sharp and more than capable of winning again. (10) KINGOFTHEJUNGLE is clearly going to the front and should set good fractions, likely setting it up for someone else. (2) BUGGER BRUISER hails from the same barn as the top pick. Veteran is in good form.

Race 13: TrackMaster 74.5 (NW L3 75) or less

(2) GYPSY LEATHER faces a blank field as he takes a key drop into the basement condition. It's hard to love him with a 21-1-3-4 record this year, but he should perk up with Dunn joining the team. (1) STIRLING ENSIGN and (3) MAY I CRUISE WEST both have a win and a second recently in this class. (5) SOSSY'S KING KONG improved last time from a tough post.
