Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 7/7

Derick Giwner|Jul 05, 2023
Meadowlands logo (new)

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 217-74-42-26 / $386.10 (-$47.90)

BEST BETS: 16-9-2-0 / $29.50 (-2.50)

SPOT PLAYS: 16-4-6-0 / $40.80 (+$8.80)

BEST BET: CAPTAIN ALBANO (6th)

SPOT PLAY: SARASOTA HANOVER (10th)

Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 - Pick 5

(1) WIGGLE MY COOKIE is still winless in 22 starts this year and she gets another shot here versus a somewhat lackluster field. (2) ROCK TO GLORY has been racing better of late and if the 15-year-old can get in striking range behind a decent pace he may just surprise. (6) DEERFIELD BEACH was clearly better last week; ready to pop?

Race 2: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot

(1) FLYING KRONOS S should get away close to the front in a field where many of these may be conservative off the gate. Her competition lines in the qualifiers have been against some very promising colts and this one is a half-brother to $602K earner Womans Will. (7) LEGAL SCHOLAR had some sneaky trot between foes in his last morning effort. Broodmare Religulous last produced 1:50 2/5 winner Justice when paired with the same stallion line (Chapter Seven). (3) CLASSIC LANDING has good lines but no races in almost a month. I'd want value to consider him on top.

Race 3: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot - Survivor 7

(6) PANTORAN looked very good in his lone qualifier with the exception of being off the gate a bit and throwing his head. After that he was a perfect gentleman. Walner colt is the first foal out of this mare and anything is possible. (3) SMARTER THAN YOU was much better with hobbles added last time as he made a nice move before weakening late. (1) TWIN B SHOWBOAT hasn't done much wrong in the morning. He's definitely worth a look in the post parade.

Race 4: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot

(2) PROMINENCE has done nothing wrong in two morning starts. Filly is the first foal from $805K winner Evident Beauty. (6) ICE CREAM improved in her second start and the fifth-place finish last time is slightly deceptive as she was definitely stuck in traffic. Walner filly could be a good price option. (4) TANDEM HANOVER finished just ahead of #6 last time out and she is a full sister to Temporal Hanover ($972K).

Race 5: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1

(9) WOODMERE ANDROLLI has been getting good checks since switching to the Cano barn. Four-year-old drops in for a tag to race in this amateur event and I expect an aggressive try. (3) LINCOLN BOULEVARD finally draws on the inside of the gate and that should allow him to be closer to the action. (5) SOMWHERENBROOKLYN N was a winner when last in the amateur ranks. (1) ROCKABILLY CHARM is usually good for a share but hasn't been sharp for some time.

Race 6: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

This looks like a stacked race judging by what we saw in the baby races. Of the group, none were more impressive than (2) CAPTAIN ALBANO, named after the former WWF wrestler and manager. Captaintreacherous-sired colt was very willing in his first start and unleashed a "wow" burst in his second. Trainer Noel Daley could have a good one here. (6) SOLAR SOLUTION brushed in a very professional mile last time at Gaitway. This son of Sweet Lou could get lost in the wagering. (4) AIN'T NOSTOPN TIME showed he has high speed for a barn that gets them to go at age 2. This guy is a half-brother to a pair of millionaires including 1:46 winner Always B Miki.

Race 7: Non-winners $10,000 (NW L2 $11,000) in last 4 or 6 races life

(1) JUSTICE was certainly disappointing last time in the Graduate. He drops into overnight competition now and while he tackles some stakes foes, this is really a spot where he should shine. (6) YANABA was used a bit early and came up short late in her return to The Meadowlands. Perhaps that was to be expected after almost four weeks of vacation time. (8) INSTAGRAM MODEL has talent no doubt but she is facing older here. Demand value if you fancy her.

Race 8: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace - Pick 6

(3) HUNTINGFORCHROME clearly has some raw ability but hasn't put it all together yet. His issues last time were in the stretch and I expect with each start he'll improve. (2) NEWSROOM has been super thus far and there is no doubt he's the one to beat, though you'll have to take a short price. (5) TOTAL STRANGER raced better from off the pace in his latest qualifier. This guy is a full brother to double millionaire and 1:47 1/5 winner Tall Dark Stranger.

Race 9: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot

(3) CHEVAL RAPIDE actually made a brief break at the top of the stretch that isn't charted; though maybe the Judges ruled it as greenness. Either way, she gathered herself wonderfully and trotted home like a champion. (2) STARDUST VOLO blew out a fast mile at Scioto Downs and that bodes well for her being near the front here. Muscle Hill filly is a full sister to Lily Stride (1:50 2/5 - $701K). (4) QUEEN CABAL finished up very well north of the border in her debut.

Race 10: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

(1) SARASOTA HANOVER owns two impressive qualifiers and was never asked at the end of her latest 1:53 3/5 win. Full sister to Lyons Surfing (1:50 1/5 at age 2) seems to have raw ability. (6) MIRACULOUS DEO had some sneaky late pace at the end of her last qualifier. Connections have moved around with stallions trying to recapture what she showed with Rocknroll Hanover (two foals made $338k and $712k) and perhaps they have something here with Stay Hungry. (2) CAVIART BELLE sprinted home nicely in 25 4/5 in her lone morning effort. She is the third foal from a mare that already has a pair of sub-1:50 performers.

Race 11: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot

(6) T C I was a very easy winner in his last qualifier and notice Gingras picked off a Sire Stakes winner to land here. All six of Nicole's Promise's foals that made the races made over six figures. (5) BRYANT BROS S finished up willingly in his last morning mile. My only concern is he has been slow away and might have to pass too many horses. (3) SENOR FANTASTIC certainly comes off an eye-catching qualifier on paper but with no way to watch it online we are still guessing as to how good this Tactical landing colt is right now.

Race 12: Non-winners $3,000 in last 4/TM 77 or less

(1) JIVE NINETY FIVE has the early speed to stick close and maybe Dunn can get him over the top. (2) SO LONG HANOVER gets a big driving change and certainly could improve. (7) BLUE BAYOU DEO dropped to this level last week and just missed. She deserves another chance.

Race 13: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot

(5) HL OLMAYA raced well in her qualifier and in a start at Goshen which we can’t watch. Mare was pretty good on the track and this is only her second foal. That Landy reaches out for Tetrick to drive is a plus. (2) INTERNATIONALMODEL finished up willingly in her latest qualifier and she is the first foal from this mare, so there is no history to tap into. (1) MY LEGACY S is a half-sister to 1:49 1/5 winner and $1.5 million earner Ecurie D.

Race 14: Trackmaster 74 (NW L2/2L4 74.5/75) or less/Opt. $10,000 Clm.

(7) SNOOPY SNOOP and (4) ROJAN'S WAY should line up one-two here off the gate. The former gets a driver change that could help after getting used too hard last time and the latter has been sharp for a while. (1) JUST A WRANGLER comes off a win in the class but did benefit from a favorable pace scenario. (3) BUCKEYE EMERY gets a better post and adds Dunn.
