Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 7/5

Derick Giwner|Jul 03, 2024
Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 225-80-44-28 / $464.60 (+$14.60)

BEST BETS: 16-11-1-2 / $43.80 (+$11.80)

SPOT PLAYS: 16-5-4-1 / $40.60 (+$8.60)

BEST BET: FALLOUT (4th)

SPOT PLAY: BRINGITONHOMETOME (11th)

Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace - Pick 5

(3) YAYAS HOT SPOT has been keeping better company the last couple of starts and certainly finds a spot where he’ll be forwardly placed. (6) MARTY MONKHOUSER A moves to the middle of the gate and could be in line for one of those “catch me if you can” miles. (8) BRAZEN BRAZILIAN is a very capable horse against this group and only needs a reasonable trip to win. (10) THNDRFRMTHETHRON N has the early speed to overcome the bad draw but will have company if he leaves hard.

Race 2: Trackmaster 68.5 (NW L2/2L4 69/69.25) or less - Survivor 7

(6) A B COLLINS hasn’t been bad from off the pace at Monticello after missing three months of action. This guy set a lifetime mark here last year and I can see him finding early speed versus a blank field. (3) HUNT YOU DOWN looks like the horse to beat off a second-place finish on June 21 in this class. That said, his lifetime mark is only 1:55, so he hasn’t actually proven he’s fast enough. (7) NEVER EASY Z TAM comes off a win in the amateur ranks and has been sharp of late in a field of mostly dull horses.

Race 3: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace

I’m going to try to get cute here and take a shot that (3) POINT BREEZE goes to the front and gets away soft in a field where I’m convinced the #2 and #4 will be raced from off the pace. The Holloway barn usually sends its 2-year-olds out live and her latest qualifier was sharp. (2) ASCENDANCE is a very talented young lady who should be 4-5 in here, but after getting used on the lead in her debut I suspect we’ll see a much more patient approach here, and it may not matter anyway. (4) BEQUEATH finished “very willingly” according to my trip notes from that 6/22 qualifier. She’s a trip threat here and certainly a filly we might hear from in the NJ Sire Stakes. (5) SEA HER RULE could be an interesting player if Gingras guns off the gate. She’s worth a look in the scoredown.

Race 4: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace - Pick 6

Other than being a touch green behind the gate in his last qualifier, (3) FALLOUT has done everything right in the morning. Full brother to millionaire Blue Diamond Eyes and 1:51 2/5 winner at 2 Captain Kirk seems to have some ability. (2) MANOLETE never got involved from an outside post in his first career start. I expect we’ll see a bit more here. (7) NAMASTE HANOVER won at first asking last weekend and can be a threat in this spot despite the outside draw.

Race 5: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot

(2) MARYLAND displayed push-button speed in his career debut by going from a 1:30 2/5 three quarters to a 26 2/5 sprint for the victory. This is a decent field but I’ll give him the edge. (1) JEFFERY J was allowed to trot out but not really asked in that last morning win. There seems to be some ability here. (4) NOBLE WINE lost to a nice horse to start his career and there is no shame in that. (5) GAP KRONOS S seemed to have a bit more in the tank than what we saw in his lone qualifier. My gut says to watch a start but I wouldn’t be shocked if he was ready.

Race 6: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

(2) MAKING HISTORY impressed me with a good mile on the lead where he dug in late for the victory. American History-sired colt is from a mare that has produced four six-figure earners including El Rey, who was a 1:49 2/5 winner at age 2. (7) CAPTAIN OPTIMISTIC showed impressive acceleration with a 25 4/5 kicker in his last qualifier. Mom was a $532K winner who seems to have finally produced a talented colt in her first pairing with Captaintreacherous. (5) MCCUSKER seems to be a bit on the small side but I like the way he responded in the lane at Pocono last time and notice that Zeron chose off the Toscano trainee (3) SMOKEN BOB, who wasn’t bad but certainly burned money in his debut mile.

Race 7: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace

(4) WARRAWEE YANKEE was way overbet last time and got his usual big check while avoiding the winner’s circle again. There is ample early speed on the outside of the gate to set him up tonight. (8) HOUND ON THE BEACH is back in the amateur ranks and he just missed last time he competed in that class. I can see early speed from him this week. (10) T DOG is probably the best horse in the race. Can Kimelman work some magic from post 10? (9) MACHLICIOUS is a capable horse on the engine when right. His last mile at Yonkers from post 7 is a throw-out line.

Race 8: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot - Pick 5

(5) KENDRA has looked spectacular in both morning miles, first an in-hand win and then a 10-length romp under only some light whip taps. Walner filly seems worth playing for a barn that sends them ready to roll. (4) JERSEY SLIDE chased #3 nicely in her lone qualifying mile. This family has produced some nice ones including Next Level Stuff ($857K) and Take All Comers ($812K). (6) R LADY W flashed early speed and finished up willingly in her latest morning mile. Everything I’ve seen in those efforts leads me to believe she has ability.

Race 9: Non-winners $5,000 in last 4

(3) LITE N SWEET took a quick tuck and got shuffled only to rally late for the show spot. He moves to the inside of the gate here and should have a much better win chance. (4) INTEREST FREE A was used early and lacked a late rally last time. He can be better with the right setup. (10) BET A BUNDLE just missed last time in this class and wasn’t exactly rewarded with an outside post now. He’s capable given a decent trip. (7) THREE IN HEAVEN A deserves some consideration picking up Tetrick in the bike this week.

Race 10: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot - $50K GTD Pick 4

This field is loaded with potential talent from what we saw in the qualifiers. (4) R DUTCHESS was loaded with late trot in her last morning mile and it is worth noting that her mom was a $774K earner. (5) WALLIES DOLLY should be the best value of the main contenders off a fourth-place finish where she finished up very willingly. With a better pace to chase she could make some noise at nice odds, though McCarthy choosing off is a concern. (3) TORRISI pulled away nicely in her qualifier and seems to have some “go” to her.

Race 11: Trackmaster 71.5 (NW L2/2L4 72/72.5) or less

(4) BRINGITONHOMETOME tucked from post 10 and then toughed it out first-over in his last start. Three-year-old moves into a better post and could be ready for a big mile in start three for this barn. (7) HELLO ROCKY was hitting high gear two starts back when he seemed to make a speed break. Last time he was stuck behind soft fractions with no shot. He could be a sneaky price play here. (8) ITS ROCKIN RANDY is down in class and eligible to show more. (3) FERDINAND A will be firing to the front and speed certainly plays in this field.

Race 12: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L2/2L4 75/75.5) or less

(7) MADRID A seemed to come to life for the new barn as she chased a top mare in her recent qualifier. There is some ability here and maybe she’s ready to show it versus a questionable group. (5) QUEEN SUN RYSER drops down a bit and looks like the one to beat if the top pick doesn’t awaken. (6) CELCIUS has the best form of the group. (3) POWERED BY MACH lured David Miller off #5. I’m not seeing it but maybe he knows more than me.

Race 13: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace

(1) PAPIS PISTOL seems to have a nose for the wire and we’ll give him the call to repeat. (2) TH COLBY raced well in his debut and now stretches out on the big track. It is somewhat concerning that he has three seconds to his credit. (4) CHIEF BOGO was handled very confidently, got headed and fought back in his last qualifier. You have to like that kind of determination.

Race 14: Trackmaster 68.5 (NW L2/2L4 69/69.25) or less

(6) EA MUSHU drops a notch here and perhaps more importantly reunites with Gingras, who last steered her to victory at the end of May. (8) DANDY IDEA picks up Dunn here and I like that she has early speed and a recent win in this class; big threat. (1) DOWNBYTHEBANKS is a capable mare given the right trip and it is nice that she often goes off at good prices. (7) AMERICAN SILKS double-drops down the Trackmaster condition ladder but still has to prove herself as a 3-year-old versus older foes.

Race 15: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club Trot

(4) LANDIA has posted consecutive victories in this class and there is no reason to believe she won’t post another strong effort. (3) BROWNIE tends to show early speed when he’s on the big track and he could line up with a pocket trip behind the speedy (10) BACARDI, who won’t be troubled by the outside post. (6) EMPEREURTHEBEST FR raced evenly upon arrival two starts back and had no shot from post nine last time. He might be worth another shot.
