Meadowlands logo (new)

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 301-94-56-40 / $518.30 (-$83.70)

BEST BETS: 22-12-3-1 / $37.70 (-$6.30)

SPOT PLAYS: 22-6-7-0 / $48.20 (+$4.20)

BEST BET: PRESSURE COOKER (12th)

SPOT PLAY: SOLAR SOLUTION (4th)

Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace - Pick 5

(5) BANK SEA has been racing well against slightly tougher than he faces this week. In a field that seems to lack a ton of early speed, I'd expect Cano to be aggressive. (2) JUMPING JAKE is certainly in fine form and only needs a decent trip to contend. (6) BIG BAD BILL has been a consistent performer in this class but tends to race from off the pace; needs some luck. (8) BIONIC getting in off the Also Eligible list changed the race a bit as he'll certainly be firing off the gate and could easily wire this field if on his game. (4) ROCK TO GLORY is clearly feeling good right now. 15-year-old is a win away from becoming a career millionaire.

Race 2: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot

(3) WINTER SOLDIER has some impressive morning lines with perhaps the last one being an exception. That said, he did make two moves that morning and still lasted for the win. (7) FRENCH KRONOS offered up solid miles in both pari-mutuel outings. (2) NOTTINGHAM blew up in his one local start but was super out of town. Certainly he can find that form here and potentially make amends.

Race 3: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot - Survivor 7

(5) T C I and (4) MAGIC HILL have both looked good thus far in 2023. Despite the decision by Gingras to choose the latter, I'm giving the slight edge to the former as I think this son of Cantab Hall has more left to show. (7) IT WASN'T ME lost in his latest qualifier to a foe that was a convincing NJ Sire Stakes winner.

Race 4: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace

(4) SOLAR SOLUTION is a horse I've been waiting for to fire a big shot and perhaps this is finally the ideal situation as he draws nicely and should have the option of racing from on or off the pace. (2) ROCK THE CAPTAIN N lost to some nice horses in the morning and picked up a nice confidence-building win in his debut. (1) I’M A CAPTAIN is a stablemate of the top pick. He raced evenly last time from a tough spot and a wake-up is certainly possible here; using.

Race 5: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot

(4) CHEVAL RAPIDE took care of business nicely in her career debut. The homebred daughter of Father Patrick and Shake It Cerry has the chance to be something special. (3) MISS I LA had a four-week gap between her qualifiers but certainly looked sweet trotting home most recently. Walner filly went for $275,000 at Lexington and may just be the real deal at fair odds. (2) GRACEFUL DESIGN doesn't have any flashy time on her lines but she won that last qualifier very easily.

Race 6: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

(2) FASNACHT HANOVER is apparently named after a German fried doughnut but there were no holes in his game in that last qualifier as he was passed briefly and battled back to win on his own. That was a standout performance. (5) TOTAL STRANGER caught a good one in Newsroom in his debut. Regally-bred colt has missed a few weeks and might be worth a bet against if the wagers come in hot and heavy on him. (3) LOU VUITTON raced well in his debut and can certainly build on that performance.

Race 7: Non-winners $10,000 in last 5 or 4 races life/TM 82.5 or less - $14,933 Hi-5 Carryover

Big carryover here and (5) YANABA seems to be the obvious key despite the defection of Dunn to #8. She gets away from three foes that would all be 1-5 in this spot and really has no excuse for failure. (2) NEXTROUNDSONME is very comfortable in this condition and should be close to the action. (9) CRYSTAL FASHION is the "X" factor in the field. If he’s ready to go in his second start off the bench the top one will face a serious battle. (7) CHAMPAGNE HANOVER and (8) MON AMOUR both come off wins in this class but moving outside and facing tougher could be an issue. (4) SHINKANSEN reunites with Callahan and he steered this guy to a gate to wire win the last time he was behind the lines.

Race 8: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace - Pick 6

(8) CAVIART BELLE has done the best work thus far of a very nice looking group of young fillies. As long as she is forwardly placed I'd expect her to prove tough. (3) MIRACULOUS DEO raced well in both starts and should be a presence here. (6) DEBUT was raging with late pace after sitting behind a gapper last time. With three qualifiers under her belt she should be ready but I fear a conservative steer is coming. (1) SARASOTA HANOVER has ability but hasn’t yet shown it in pari-mutuel action. I wouldn't be shocked if she stepped up.

Race 9: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Trot

(4) BUY A ROUND looked awfully good at first asking and the only knock against her will be a potentially short price. (7) ICE CREAM has the early speed to make the front and enough talent to stick around for a big piece. (9) PAULINA HANOVER also looked good upon debut and might offer some value here from the outside post.

Race 10: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Pace - $50K GTD Pick 4

(7) BOOMING ECONOMY was a fast closing second upon debut while trying to finish into a 55 2/5 final half at Pocono. Captaintreacherous-sired colt is loaded with talent from what I've seen and he may be put in play after missing round one of this series. (8) NEWSROOM is clearly the horse to beat after a 1:51 win last time. Trainer Holloway smartly gave him a few weeks to rest after that scintillating mile. (1) IVY PARK has looked good in his two trips to the track so far and Gingras did choose here over three others.

Race 11: Kindergarten 2YO C&G Trot

(4) SIX PACK TONY finished willingly behind a horse that came right back to win again in his next start. Six Pack colt faces a soft group and figures to be handled appropriately. (1) TONY ADAMS S has missed five weeks but hails from a barn that can have them ready. (6) REGGIANITO certainly has enough of a foundation in his belt after a trio of qualifiers.

Race 12: Kindergarten 2YO Filly Pace

(5) PRESSURE COOKER was raced conservatively in her first career start, then was carried out wide on the final turn before finishing very willingly. I'm all-in tonight. (6) TARRIFIC sat last with a lapful of horse before making a bold move and taking care of business last time. There is clearly ability here. (1) CHIAPANECAS has yet to miss the board in her three-race career.

Race 13: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $20,000 (NW L2 or 3YO $30,000) life/Maidens draw inside

(4) BUDDY EARL added hobbles last time and won like a champion first-over. A repeat performance makes him the one to beat again. (3) ALL A TWITTER was bottled up along the cones until into the stretch and trotted home willingly when clear. (7) PEDAL ON METAL has been getting fat facing lesser foes at Philly; Tetrick sticks; acid test. (1) TE AMO LINDY has a couple of starts under his belt now in 2023 but is still winless in 15 career starts.

Race 14: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace

(1) IDEAL SUSPECT has been having issues getting into play from outside posts and should solve those problems from the inside tonight in what could be a crapshoot type of race. (5) DEERFIELD BEACH didn't go overly fast but was caught up in a contested pace last week when he came up flat late; can rebound. (3) IN NEVADA N rallied nicely last time while losing to a barn that did very well in the amateurs that night. (8) BE THE CAPTAIN gets an interesting condition change and could certainly be tighter in his second start after a month off. I couldn't rule him out.
