Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 7/24

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 148-42-30-24 / $192.30 (-$103.70)
BEST BETS: 11-5-4-1 / $23.60 (+$1.60)
BEST BET: LADY CHAOS (5th)
SPOT PLAY: ALTAR (6th)
Race 1: GSY Amateur - $40K GTD Pick 5
(9) SCIROCCO MISTYSAID broke last time and still rallied nicely to get third. If Silva keeps him on the pace, he has a big shot at a better price this week. (2) JOHNNY CHIP switched barns and added Lasix, which resulted in two solid showings. He hasn't raced well in a while but looks to be in a winning spot now. (3) HONOR ME took plenty of air from post eight most recently; moves inside for a live barn. (5) RACE ME ROCKY has been stuck in some bad posts. Veteran would be no shock in this spot.
Race 2: Trackmaster Rating 73.5 or less
Not much in this race in terms of form to gravitate to. I'll roll the dice with (8) NOTHERN JACK. Bill Mann has been known to gun one off the gate and take a shot and this race is crying out for someone to attempt that move. (1) ONE TOUGH NUT wasn't awful in this class two weeks back and that makes him the clear-cut favorite tonight; scary. (6) SOMETHINGINTHEWIND has been racing steadily of late. Eleven-year-old can play with these and maybe Dunn can get more out of him.
Race 3: Non-winners 2 races life
(5) GOODASHIM recovered nicely after an early break while trying to time the gate in his 2020 debut. He faces a much easier group here and can have a big say. (1) CALLE PALEMA exits Sire Stakes action and looks like the potential favorite. (6) CARUSO has big early speed and could be controlling this race if he stays trotting this week.
Race 4: Non-winners $2,500 in last 5 - Pick 6
(6) CREDIT FRAUD is off form right now but faces a very weak field. He'll be pointed down the road here and seems highly likely to go a very long way. (9) BILLIE BLUE wasn't that bad in her last two starts here. If Sears puts her in play, I can see a wake-up mile for a decent barn. (1) LEVITATION faced When Doverscry in his lone return qualifier, so losing by a lot was expected. This is a winnable spot and Gingras only helps the cause.
Race 5: Non-winners 2 races life
(4) LADY CHAOS was spectacular in her qualifiers here and took care of business first out at The Meadows. She should remain undefeated against this group. (7) SPRING DREAMS has early speed in her arsenal and could control the race. (5) DARLENE HANOVER has been coming home nicely. (1) A PERFECT DUTCHESS showed some improvement last time and was Dunn's choice of Norman trainees.
Race 6: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Trot Final - $50K GTD Pick 4
(5) ALTAR displayed big early speed in her first start but put the entire package together to score the win last time. Muscle Hill-sired filly has quick acceleration and gets the slight nod in a solid field. (3) BEAUTIFUL GAME has raced well from on and off the pace despite having no wins to show for it. (9) PRESTO worked out a smooth trip from the second tier and charged home. Driver change this week to Gingras is a nice plus. (2) CHABLIS has done good work in both races of her career.
Race 7: Non-winners $4,000 in last 5/TM Rating 79.55 or less
(7) NARCIAN JEWEL won in a higher class last week but was disqualified for what seemed like a minor infraction in my eyes. Either way, anything close to a repeat effort should result in a win tonight in a race he qualifies for by .02 on the AE Trackmaster Rating condition. (1) DIXIE STAR N also gets some class relief from a different type of conditioned race. She put in a better effort last time. (2) ENCHANTED EVA comes out of the same race as the top pick and gets major post relief this time. (3) WHITEHAVEN LASS A steps up off a win versus lesser; capable on best.
Race 8: Non-winners $4,000 in last 5/TM Rating 78.5 or less
(3) TRIXIE DUST and (6) HAMMER TIME are down in class and both should be firing hard off the wings of the gate. I'll give the slight edge to the former on the expectations of a better price. (8) WHAT CHAPTER is a very capable horse that hasn't been reliable of late at some short prices.
Race 9: Non-winners $20,000 in last 5 or 10 race life
(9) DON'T LET'EM was a complete toss in the Maturity from the second tier as his best work has come when allowed to go forward from the start. Takter will likely allow him to trot away as he wants here and his natural speed and stamina can get him home. (7) JL CRUZE has big early speed and decent form; threat. (6) MARION MARAUDER looks to be coming into form, but I worry that he'll be too far out of it early.
Race 10: NJ Sire Stakes 2YO C&G Trot Final - $40K GTD Pick 4
(8) SOUTHWIND TYRION impressed me in his lone qualifier and did nothing to sway my opinion in his first career starts. Svanstedt knows how to get them ready for a big race and I'll give this guy the narrow edge in a strong field. (6) HEARTBREAK HILL progressed nicely and lit up the board last time. The price should be decent and there is no saying he isn't this good. (7) TOPOFTHEHILL S broke and recovered nicely last Friday. There is talent here but he needs to show he is fast enough. (10) LOCATELLI also improved in his second try; post 10 hurts with plenty of leavers to his inside.
Race 11: Non-winners 5-7 races or $60,000-$90,000 life
(6) HL REVADON gets away from some killers. While this isn't an easy spot, it is right in his wheelhouse and early speed seems likely. (9) CHIPLOSIVE raced well in defeat last week. (10) WHOSE BLUES went a huge mile at Philly last time. This is a tune-up race for the Hambletonian Oaks, likely, so I'm not sure what to expect. (4) GOTWUTEVERITTAKES found himself in that qualifier last time. Is he a new horse now? (7) REFINED has early speed and can certainly be in the mix.
Race 12: Non-winners $10,000 in last 5/Opt. $30,000 Clm
(2) VAINQUEUR R P NO raced reasonably well in his qualifiers. European invader won 16 races and nearly $400K overseas. I have to think he'll beat this crew. (5) BIZET is sharp now and can handle the class jump. (6) HASHTAGMADEYALOOK has early speed and plenty of form. (8) SWEET CHAPTER has ability but also breaks often.
Race 13: Non-winners $2,500 in last 5/TM Rating 74 or less
Here's another field on the card without much form or anything to lead you in a firm direction. (10) VINTAGE BABE returns to The Meadowlands versus much cheaper competition and even from post 10, without one of the top catch-drivers, she should be able to wire this field. (1) ROSE RUN SAMANTHA raced well off the bench at Philly last time. Along with (5) MAJESTIC TODDY N, they are the only other horses that I might consider on my Pick 4 ticket. As far as the other exotic slots, your guess is as good as mine.
