Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 7/2

Matt Rose|Jun 30, 2021
Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 3 -13 / $14.20 (-$11.80)

BEST BETS: 0 - 1 / $0.00 (-$2.00)

Best Bet: KING OF THE NORTH (12th)

Spot Play: PAPPY GO GO (9th)

Race 1: NJSS 2YO Fillies Trot - Pick 5

(3) I'M HAPPY HANOVER begins her career off two sharp qualifiers over the Pocono surface, and I liked the noticeable improvement from her first to second trial. $200K yearling from Muscle Hill gets Brian Sears in the bike for Deborah Daguet's connections and they start from a good post. (2) MISSWALNER FASHION is from the first crop of Walner who kicked home in :26 4/5 in last week's qualifier for Jim Campbell. She actually has three morning trials to her credit because of that break in stride on June 19. It that concerning at all? (8) BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL appears ready to go off those two closing efforts in A.M. sessions. Dave Miller will likely be looking to float off the gate and improve position in the early going.

Race 2: NJSS 2YO Colts & Geldings Trot

(5) MAJESTIC J miscued in his first appearance on the track but followed that up with an easy front-running effort and nice sprint home. Dave Miller sticks with the Walner-sired Alagna trainee. (7) LAWS OF MOTION recovered well from a break in his first qualifier, then came back the following week and two-moved and powered off in 1:55 4/5 at Gaitway for Andy and Julie Miller. Walner offspring will attract plenty of attention off that effort. (8) GRIZZLY BARE added the trotting hobbles after breaking on the lead and went a steady effort in his secord morning effort. Tough spot for this Burke trainee but he deserves a look.

Race 3: NJSS 2YO Fillies Trot

(5) JIGGY JOG S has just one lone qualifier in preparation for her career debut, and it was a decent winning effort. Svanstedt enlists Gingras to drive from a good midpack post. (2) SELFIE QUEEN gets Tetrick to drive after Jimmy Takter held the lines for daughter Nancy in the A.M. sessions; improvement from first to second qualifiers suggest she's ready to roll. (8) DELILAH HANOVER was a $440K yearling from Walner who has appeared a bit underwhelming so far; Dexter Dunn's choice, however.

Race 4: NJSS 2YO Colts & Geldings Trot

(6) LOOKS LIKE MONI is a Muscle Hill homebred for Brittany Farms & Co. who seems to have done everything right so far; Tetrick stays on and he looks like the deserving favorite here. (4) BJORNSSON is an interesting option coming from The Meadows as he's already had two pari-mutuel starts. (7) PERICULUM was run over by the top one in that latest qualifier and is also at a tactical disadvantage; use underneath.

Race 5: NW3500 in last 5 starts Trot

(2) ALEXANDER HANOVER returns from Philly where he was arguably facing better and this gelding already has a win and a couple of seconds over the Big M surface this year. (4) MARVELOUSTRIX closed very well in her last two local races for Steve Smith. (6) MASSTER BLUE gets MacDonald in the bike after a series of Amateur events; shows improvement?

Race 6: F&M NW6000 in last 5 starts Pace **$50K GTD PICK-4**

(9) WINGDING HANOVER lands on the outside again but I assume she'll be motoring early and she seems capable with smooth sailing. (3) WESTERN SHOWGIRL closed very well last week versus better; overbet now? (1) GOTTLOVEMYSHADOW lands inside again and can save ground and rally late.

Race 7: TrackMaster 73.5 or less as of 6/29 Pace

(1) SUNSHINE HALL was stuck uncovered last week and had little left for the stretch drive; she moves back to the TM conditioned ranks where she just missed three back. (5) MR MCDREAMY has been very consistent at this level in her last three which makes her a logical contender again. (10) BIONIC did finish with some late pace after the early break and while she figures to be lagging at the back perhaps he can rally again for a piece at a big price.

Race 8: NW3500 in last 5 starts Pace

(9) DAVIDS COMING HOME has been sharp in his last two since the Capone reclaim and Luke Hanners has handled him well; gelding seems more than capable of repeating. (5) JUMPING JAKE dropped to this base conditioned level last week and finished willingly at a big price; he deserves some respect on the track (and pari-mutuel play) off that race. (2) NORTHERN ROCK gets some needed post relief and should be more involved.

Race 9: NW6000 in last 5 starts Trot

(4) PAPPY GO GO returns from Plainridge and is back in the Harris barn, where he's enjoyed plenty of success in the past. (7) SAY YOU DO has some class to him and that was a nice-looking qualifier upon moving into the Nifty Norman barn. (8) MOVEOUTOFMYWAY K drops to a more appropriate level after hitting the ticket in his last two with Kasper Foget driving.

Race 10: NW2 races lifetime Trot **$50K GTD PICK-4**

(2) BALENCIAGA was a bit overmatched in the EBC up at Vernon but he raced well in the NYSS the start prior and he just missed here three back from a similar spot; Mark Macdonald picks up the catch drive for the Kelley barn. (7) TANGLED LOVE has been very consistent in four starts this season but is still looking to pick up that first win; Lorentzon trainee may be favored to do so. (5) KILDARE KING is an obvious player if he can do the obvious, which is stay flat; Dave Miller drives.

Race 11: NJSS 2YO Fillies Trot

(5) VENERABLE is another from the first crop of Walner who's impressed in baby-racing action and she's shown some versatility thus far; Dave Miller should have a good tactical edge from this post. (7) PEYTON HANOVER already has pari-mutuel experience, and that was a nice win in the Tompkins-Geers stake; $400K yearling deserves plenty of respect. (2) PARDON MY LINDY also has a start, and was fourth behind Peyton Hanover, though not that far off; Gingras takes the drive.

Race 12: NJSS 2YO Colts & Geldings Trot

(3) KING OF THE NORTH paired with Mark MacDonald on a couple of very nice-looking winning qualifiers and here's another Walner offspring who's ready for action. Schnittker seems to have some impressive young stock year after year. (4) TESTING TESTING chased the top one home willingly and Dave Miller sticks with him. (5) WISHFUL ORDER was a $110K yearling out of Muscle Hill who did show improvement from first to second qualifier.

Race 13: NJSS 2YO Colts & Geldings Trot

(6) TEMPORAL HANOVER went much quicker in his second morning trial and seeing the progression is an obvious positive; Tetrick teams with Melander here on another Walner looking to get off to a fast start. (4) WALL OF MONI showed a willing closing kick in pari-mutuel action and the homebred will be in line for a good trip from this post. (2) TACHYON is another Svanstedt trainee ready to go off just a lone qualifier; I'll trust these connections know what they're doing. Ake takes the lines from an inside post.
