Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace - Pick 5
(4) AMERICAN MERCURY should be firing off the gate in this spot and there is a reasonable chance that he’ll be sitting a cozy pocket trip behind (7) MUSCLE FACTORY A. The latter was gigantic on the engine most recently and certainly a big threat to repeat. (1) SPARTACUS BLUECHIP is in decent form and hails from a trainer and driver that has done well in this series. (2) MEET THE CREEPER is a sit and pounce threat given a clean journey.

Race 2: NJ Sire Stakes Platinum for 2YO Filly Trotters
(4) NEVIS PEAK has been exceptional in her morning efforts, displaying an impressive burst in start one and uncorking a 55 1/5 back half most recently. Daughter of Walner and Hambletonian winner Ramona Hill is perhaps still a bit green but seems loaded with ability. (1) EXTREMELY TACTICAL won her first outing and then was second behind an absolute monster in Kountry Plunge. This mare hasn’t hit yet but I wouldn’t give up on her. (2) CAUGHT SPEEDING was able to split foes with late life in start one and finished very willingly last time over this track. (3) SPECIAL ORCHID finished up both of her miles with late life, which is exactly what you want to see. This gal represents her first pairing with Walner.
Race 3: NJ Sire Stakes Silver for 2YO C&G Trotters - Pick 6
(5) CELEBRINI was kept on hold in third through very slow fractions and sprinted home nicely while getting bested by a horse that saved all the ground. Colt is a half-brother to a pair of $300K-plus earners. (6) WYOMING didn’t do much in his morning miles but in his defense he faced better quality stock in some faster miles; fits nicely here. While I don’t love the inside post with youngsters, (1) MACKINAC ISLE may have an advantage with it given the competition and his displayed early speed.
Race 4: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace
(5) FRAZIER HANOVER had all kinds of traffic trouble and was never clear up the cones when finishing ninth last time. Five-year-old lands back in the amateur series and should have a serious chance. (6) PIRATES SHADOW dropped time in his second start back from time off and while he finished last, that was due to a crazy-fast pace. He can improve on that performance. (2) ROCKABILLY CHARM gets a new pilot in Joe Lee and I can see him getting more out of this guy. (7) URBAN RENEWAL is usually involved in these amateur ranks even if he doesn’t hit the board all the time.
Race 5: NJ Sire Stakes Silver for 2YO Filly Trotters
(5) CHICA BONITA jumped it off behind the gate in her debut on a track she had yet to see. I can look past that performance, especially since she qualified back here nicely while seemingly full of trot after the wire. (3) EMOTICA rolled in her first pari-mutuel start and is clearly the horse to beat at a short price. (1) PROMISES TO KEEP is a bit of a wildcard since Vernon qualifier replays aren’t available. We’ll take a keen look at her in the post parade.
Race 6: NJ Sire Stakes Platinum for 2YO C&G Trotters - $50K GTD Pick 4
(8) PUL BIBER was a decent second behind a high-priced 2-year-old who looked very good last time and finished in-hand before that in qualifier #1. Melander tends to send them out ready and this one seems poised for success. (4) PEARL OF HANOVER cruised by rather easily in his second morning mile. Mare has thrown some decent ones including stallion Don’t Let’em. (9) TACTICS GUY brushed to the front and put up good fractions when second best most recently. Check out the final time of that mile versus the others in here. (2) THE WALNEREXPRESS was better in his first qualifier than the second one in my opinion. That said, the 18-length win last time might make him an underlay.
Race 7: NJ Sire Stakes Platinum for 2YO Filly Trotters
(2) TURTLE DOVE is the first foal of $2 million winner When Dovescry. She’s very green but also seems to have clear ability. She also had a troubled trip in her first qualifier. There should be value here if people only go by the lines. (3) ORCHESTRA just missed in both of her qualifiers and the latest saw her close willingly. I expect her to be the chalk here. (1) WHOOPDEDOO HANOVER is the only horse in the field with a pari-mutuel start and that gives her a bit of an edge. Her Canadian form seems to make her a fit. (8) FASCINATION won under light asking in her debut qualifier and did her best in a fast final quarter last time. I fear she won’t be asked very hard from the outside post.
Race 8: NJ Sire Stakes Platinum for 2YO Filly Trotters - Pick 5
(2) WALL OF FAME was very impressive in both of her morning miles including a 26 2/5 final quarter last time. (5) LOVE’S PASSION was better in her first qualifier than the second one where she was visibly tiring late. That said, she did all the work on the engine and still held on. (8) GRANDIFLORA was used last time when second best behind the top pick but prior to that she split foes for the nice win; needs best from outside. (4) RUTH’S KALILA comes off an improved mile where she scored under light whip taps. She is a full sister to Celebrity Bambino and Conversano.
Race 9: NJ Sire Stakes Silver for 2YO Filly Trotters
(1) OLBIA raced well on the engine in her first try and sprinted home last time in 27 2/5, a final quarter that jumps off the page in this field. (4) ONEIROMANCER has displayed early speed and we do get Gingras in the bike tonight. She is just the fourth foal from this mare and the first two earned over $230K, with the second sporting a 1:51 4/5 mark as a 2YO. (2) FASHION DIVA doesn’t look like much on paper but we’ve seen this barn bring in similar horses and excel.
Race 10: NJ Sire Stakes Silver for 2YO C&G Trotters - $50K GTD Pick 4
(1) REVERENCE posted a nice first qualifier and just an even mile the second time around. Still, against a field without much clear ability from the qualifiers, he looks as good as any. (3) DELTA couldn’t gain in either qualifier but did finish reasonably well in both miles. My main hesitation is the likelihood that he’ll be the favorite. (5) MUSCLEAID raced evenly in his lone qualifier. They paid $125K for him and Smedshammer reaches out to a catch driver, so perhaps big improvement is coming.
Race 11: NJ Sire Stakes Silver for 2YO Filly Pacers
(2) ODDS ON GREENBACK won her first qualifier and last time she was very patient before splitting foes in the lane to be a willing fifth. She’s the third foal from a mare that produced a 1:52 1/5 winner with her first foal. (8) PERFECT HOPE DEO came first-over from fifth to get the front and hold on for the win at Philly. If she moves forward a bit off that mile and drops time on the big track, watch out! (6) PERFECTUM was very good late in the mile the first time we saw her and not very good in start two; mixed feelings.
Race 12: NJ Sire Stakes Platinum for 2YO C&G Trotters
(9) MATS was kept on hold a long way in his first start and displayed nice acceleration and then snuck out on the final turn most recently to power away from the field under very light asking. Everything I’ve seen from this guy screams ability! (5) LIFETIME DREAMER comes off a very impressive 1:55 4/5 qualifying win but notice that Gingras went to the top pick. He’s likely going to be bet off that mile and while I respect him, he’s not the only talented one. (6) PRESIDENTE couldn’t have won his last qualifier any easier and this barn tends to bring them ready. (10) WRONG SOUNDS RIGHT dug in nicely in start one and found his stride late to storm home in his latest. He’s another colt with ability; post 10 is tough.
Race 13: NJ Sire Stakes Platinum for 2YO Filly Pacers
(4) BUTTERFLY EFFECT displayed some speed off the gate and finished up under tight lines while in traffic in her last qualifier. There could be more here than meets the eyes and others are likely to be drawn in by the flashy lines on horses like (3) STERL THE PEARL, who was able to win wire to wire in both qualifiers. For a 2-year-old to succeed like that is no easy task; deserves respect. (2) BODY AND SOUL also dealt with stretch traffic last time so we don’t know how much better she could’ve been. Don’t be shocked if she races well. (6) WENDY J STINGS sprinted home nicely in both qualifiers. Notice that while she was outkicked last time, it was in a 1:53 3/5 mile.

Race 14: NJ Sire Stakes Platinum for 2YO C&G Pacers
(6) WHISKEY STINGER left very well, gapped out some on the final turn as the pace accelerated but reengaged in the stretch to sprint home in 26 3/5. Colt can build off that mile. (2) AINTMYFIRSTRO DEO looked like he was getting passed at the head of the stretch in his last qualifier but turned that foe aside nicely in a game mile. He could have a good nose for the wire. (1) PERFECT JOE owns the fastest time on the page. Full sister won in 1:51 4/5 as a 2-year-old.
Race 15: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L2 76.5) or less/Opt. $10,000 Clm.
(9) AMIRA HANOVER moves into the Bongiorno barn tonight and lands in what appears to be a soft spot. Notice she won in 1:51 2/5 on the mile track last year and none of these have sniffed that level in some time, if ever. (1) KELLINA DIAMOND changed barns last out and was just even versus better foes. She can definitely show more now. (2) DIVIDED WE FALL and (6) PRINCESS ARONA are sharp horses moving up in class. I prefer them underneath here.
