Derick Giwner|Jun 21, 2023
Meadowlands logo (new)

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 176-60-33-23 / $296.80 (-$55.20)

BEST BETS: 13-8-2-0 / $26.70 (+.70)

SPOT PLAYS: 13-3-5-0 / $21.80 (-$4.20)

BEST BET: DUPREE HANOVER (6th)

SPOT PLAY: FAIRIESDELIGHT A (9th)

Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 - Pick 5

Hard to get excited about any of these horses on the wagering front and I wouldn't blame you for wanting to press the ALL button in the Pick 5. (5) WIGGLE MY COOKIE has displayed hints of form and gets a nice post improvement. I'd love to see Slendorn gun to the front here. (7) SOMESURFSOMEWHERE also moves in some on the gate and should be tighter back on a regular rotation after missing four weeks. (1) MASTER CONRAD could get away in mid-pack and have a late chance.

Race 2: Trackmaster 74 or less

(8) BROWNIE comes off a solid mile, has the early speed to make the front and a catch-driver this week to seal the deal. (3) BLOGMASTER has been very consistent of late with a couple of recent thirds over the track. (1) KING CAST could get bet off the board with Dunn jumping in the bike after a string of races with amateur drivers. He's not worth a short price.

Race 3: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $20,000 (3YO $30,000) life/Maidens draw inside - Survivor 7

(6) MOMMAMIA VOLO got a nice tour of the track last week and now moves in a couple of spots on the gate. Hopefully they give her a try this week a bit closer to the action. (5) ANOTHER LIKE ME seems to have put her breaking trouble behind her; hard to toss. (8) THE EMPRESS ICE has hit the board in the majority of her starts this year.

Race 4: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L2 $3,331) in last 4/TM 77 (NW L2/2L4 77.5/78) or less

(8) CAL MILES N SHELL exits amateur races and it will be interesting to see how he does here. Three-year-old certainly has shown some ability and the switch to Callahan could mean he gets away closer this time around. (2) JIVE NINETY FIVE has speed, form and picks up a Hall of Fame driver. He isn't the best horse in the field but could be in the best position to win. (5) PLUMB should fire to the front and wouldn't be a shock to take them all the way despite her winless record in 2023.

Race 5: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1

(9) HOWTOTRAINURDRAGON showed some life from off the pace last week and perhaps he'll get put in play a bit earlier now. (4) RENO DINERO comes out of some races that were going a decent time at Monticello. Four-year-old seems to be in a decent spot here. (5) HERE COMES RED could be sent to the front here and he could make some noise if left alone.

Race 6: Non-winners 2-4 (NW L2 5) races or $20,000 life - $50K GTD Pick 4

(1) DUPREE HANOVER had no shot in his 2023 debut facing Christchurch and the competition only got tougher in Canada versus stakes foes. Winless colt should break his maiden here. (9) GIRLDAD chased last week without making an impact. I can see Miller gunning off the gate here and seeing what's in the tank. (6) STRENGTHFROMABOVE blew out a nice mile in his debut for this barn and perhaps he is this good.

Race 7: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1

(1) MAKE IT BIG went a big mile after fending off pressure last time. The time wasn't fast but the weather conditions during the first race were far from ideal. (3) JONAH could be interesting on the lead if #1 allows him to get there. (2) SNAP CALL has been caught in 1:51 miles that last two starts. This race isn't going that fast.

Race 8: Non-winners $10,000 (NW 2L4 $11,135/NW $14,000 draw outside) in last 4 or 8 races life - Pick 6

(6) YANABA was going some big miles at Oak Grove before an unfortunate break in the final. While this isn't an easy group, she's simply faster than most of these. (1) SONOFAMISTERY is a mystery himself. IF he decides to trot and IF he is ready to go a fast mile, watch out! (9) DELAYED HANOVER is supposed to prove tough at this level but he did catch a nice foe in #6.

Race 9: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L2 $5,861) in last 4 or 2 races in 2023 (w/18 or more starts)

(1) FAIRIESDELIGHT A takes a substantial drop in class and should respond accordingly with a big mile. The price may even be right with Cory Stratton in the bike. (10) WATCH ME NOW N was better after a bit of time off and she certainly has the early speed to get involved from the difficult starting post. (3) PURAMERI respond on the class drop last time in start two with Lasix added.

Race 10: Open Handicap Trot - $50K GTD Pick 4

(4) LEXUS KODY was completely ignored last time and won again. Five-year-old has proven to be fast as any in here and Gingras stops over to drive on his way home from Yonkers. Maybe we'll get a fair 3-1 or so? (2) IT’S ACADEMIC hasn't put in a bad effort all year and I wouldn't be shocked if he leaves hard and stretches out his stablemate a bit early. (5) AMIGO VOLO needs some pace help but he wouldn't be a complete shock here.

Race 11: Non-winners $3,000 in last 4/TM 77.5 (NW L2/2L4 78/78.75) or less/Opt. $12,500 Clm.

(1) HARMONY OF NOTES did all the work on the lead and just missed at first asking for the new barn last week; makes amends. (4) WOODMERE HARRIET hasn't really been bad of late while lacking a big finish. Class drop here could make a difference. (5) TRANS MEANIE bested the top pick last time after sitting a perfect pocket trip. She’s sharp enough but can't possibly get another great trip, right? (8) EMMY LOU HAYES has found her form of late and I wouldn't be shocked if she got involved at a price.

Race 12: Non-winners $7,500 (NW 2L4 $8,990) in last 4 or 4 (NW L2 5) races life/TM 80.56 or less

(6) JOXTER has been sharp out of town and he's certainly capable of firing to the front and going a big mile with McCarthy picking up the drive. (7) TACTICAL APPROACH and (5) BLONDE BOMBSHELL are the most talented in this group, but both have missed three weeks and this race is not very important in a schedule that likely includes the Hambletonian Oaks. They could win but there is risk.

Race 13: Trackmaster 74 (NW L2/2L4 74.5/75.46) or less/Opt. $10,000 Clm.

(1) CAPTAIN MCCRAE hasn't turned in a good race all year but clearly is fast enough to play with this low-level Trackmaster group. Barn and driver change could wake him up. (3) GUYS IN THE BAND picks up a catch-driver this week and should make his presence known. (8) A B COLLINS is clearly in form and Beckwith seems likely to put him in play. (5) SPIRIT OF TRUTH was done in by a tough trip most recently; prior form was fine.
