Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 6/11

Derick Giwner|Jun 09, 2021
Meadowlands logo (new)

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 161-49-32-27 / $284.40 (-$37.60)

BEST BETS: 12-2-5-1 / $6.40 (-17.60)

SPOT PLAYS: 12-3-4-2 / $33.40 (+$9.40)

BEST BET: OFF THE RECORD (2nd)

SPOT PLAY: FRANCO TOTEM N (6th)

Race 1: $7,500 Claiming - Pick 5

(1) BUGGER BRUISER finished just a neck behind (4) GYPSY LEATHER last weekend when the latter got away with very soft fractions. He can turn the tables here on a foe that is probably not as fast as him and just got lucky. (8) MIKE'S POWERHOUSE drops like four classes while returning from a seven-plus week layoff. Your guess is as good as mine on what to expect. (6) TRICK CARD has good early speed and can make some noise.

Race 2: Winners 0-2 (NW L5 3) races life

(2) OFF THE RECORD finished behind many of these last week when she drew worst and never got into the action. The best horses from that race are nowhere to be found this week and I'd expect Tetrick to be very aggressive. (1) JM BETONSIX has been a bit of a tease getting minor checks and that 0-for-10 record jumps off the page for win bettors. (6) OURLITTLEMIRACLE took plenty of air in her first try with Lasix and probably deserves a second chance.

Race 3: GSY Amateur Drivers - Survivor 7

(3) MONTEFALCO N was literally running over the leader last time at Philly despite fast fractions when he made a break. Kelvin Harrison trainee looked plenty live in that spot and should fit very nicely in the amateur ranks if he minds his manners. (2) MCNULTY Z TAM couldn't keep up in the qualifier but he was chasing a quality foe in Rouser Hanover. This is a decent spot. (1) WHATSTROUBLNUROCKY closed well last time after they went nuts up front. He should be closer this time.

Race 4: Non-winners 2 or $30,000 life/Maidens draw inside

(3) RITSON owns a 0-for-11 record but has faced a number of foes recently that would easily be heavy favorites in this field. (7) DUCHESSPEDIA stayed flat with hobbles added and now Smedshammer calls on a catch-driver. (2) ETHICS has some early speed and I think we may see it.

Race 5: GSY Amateur Drivers

This is a salty group for an amateur race. (3) TAKE A WISH raced well from off the pace at Freehold and I think we are going to see plenty of action here so those patient tactics should work nicely. (1) DEW CAN DEW perked up nicely with Lasix added last time and she comes with a top amateur pilot. (4) INNISFALLEN can be a tricky horse because he tends to break at times, but when he trots he's as fast as or faster than any of these.

Race 6: Non-winners $6,000 (NW L3 $6,600) in last 5/TM 81 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(1) FRANCO TOTEM N sat behind a 95-1 last week and when he got clear late was loaded with pace. Veteran drops in class this week and should be ready to roll. (4) A MAJOR OMEN went an even mile last week and seems like a good fit here making his fourth start back from winter break. (6) JUSTIN CREDIBLE lost by a neck in an insane final time of 1:48 4/5. Can he repeat that performance? Todd McCarthy chose the top pick.

Race 7: Non-winners $3,500 in last 5/TM 79.6 or less

(5) SUNDAY AFTERNOON and (9) DARKRSHADEOFPALE N are the two class-droppers in the field and they stand out for me. I'll lean slightly to the former because she should be closer to the front early and showed renewed late life in her most recent start. (2) SUDDEN CHANGE N should be able to get around the one and sit close to the action after a solid effort last Friday.

Race 8: Non-winners 2 (FM 3) or $30,000 life/Maidens draw inside - Pick 6

Any of the eight horses in here could potentially win so we'll try (4) NARZARIO at what should be a decent price. Ake Svanstedt had him charging home for the win two back and his night was over after he drew post 10 last time. There seems to be enough early speed to set him up nicely. (2) AVENIR may have finally turned the corner after two clean lines, though a new driver still concerns me slightly. (8) ROBERT'S HANOVER was a sharp winner in his last qualifier. My only question here is whether he can knock a second or two off his best time.

Race 9: 3-Year-Old Open Trot

It’s hard to say on Wednesday when I'm writing this analysis whether (2) IN RANGE's break at Pocono last time will provide us with an opportunity on Friday or not. He's been as reliable as they come prior to that miscue and really in comes down to price. At 2-1 or higher he's good value. If he remains chalky as usual, I'd steer clear. (8) REALLY FAST showed me something winning the NJSS final, though he did have a perfect trip. There is no real reason to go hard in this non-stakes spot, but these connections are usually on "GO" most times. (7) LINDYSMUSCLEMANIA is a start removed from a 1:51 4/5 win. Do we get the horse that broke last time or the one who romped two back? (9) MON AMOUR gets a catch-driver back in the bike.

Race 10: Non-winners 2 (NW L3 3) races life/Maidens draw inside - $50K GTD Pick 4

(3) RED RIGHT HAND gets away from the best 3-year-olds in the sport and should have every chance to pick up some confidence tonight. (7) ROUSER HANOVER has cost his owners plenty of money over the last few years but that doesn't take away from the fact that this guy has speed. Is he finally ready to put it all together? (4) TORONTO rarely throws in a bad mile but doesn't look like a top-end 3-year-old.

Race 11: Non-winners $6,000 (NW L5 $7,000) in last 5/TM 81.50 or less

(4) STELLENBOSCH drops a couple of levels on the condition ladder and while he hasn't won often, this is the type of spot where he should bring a top effort. (2) MAJOR BATTLE has found himself the last couple of weeks. (5) BREAK THE DEAL and (8) J ROCKIN B have big early speed and dead-heated in a similar class a few starts back.

Race 12: Kissin In The Sand Mares Open

This could finally be the week for (4) RACINE BELL. The short field means she should come away no worse than second and then it's on her to close the deal. The fact that Jason Bartlett is coming in from Yonkers to drive in just a $30,000 race says it all. (2) LYONS SENTINEL was a victim of post position last time at Philly. Her last start here was an impressive 1:48 2/5 upset win. (7) KEEP ROCKIN A is the sharpest horse in the field but you'll have to take a shorter price on a mare that will come away last. (1) SOHO BURNING LOVE A was used hard in the Betsy Ross last time and now my only question is whether she'll get an aggressive drive again.

Race 13: TrackMaster Rating 73.50 (NW L5 75.46) or less

(6) MR MCDREAMY hasn't been able to close at Monticello in some decent company. Prior to that he was stuck in some bad outside posts. He seems worth a flyer here despite Yannick choosing #5. (8) NA NA NA BAATMAN has some form and a driver that isn't afraid to take a shot. (7) DATELINE HANOVER drops down off a decent qualifier. Two of the others from that race are in earlier, so maybe check out how they did first. (5) STIRLING ENSIGN was used and tired last time. His prior start was OK.
