CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 84-26-13-11 / $124.40 (-$43.60) BEST BETS: 6-3-2-0 / $19.40 (+$7.40) SPOT PLAYS: 6-1-1-3 / $4.80 (-$7.20) BEST BET: GOOGOO GODDESS (10th) SPOT PLAY: BETTER THAN SOME (3rd) Race 1: Trackmaster 68 (NW L2 70 – TM 68-70.10 draw outside) or less/NW 1 race life - Pick 5 (7) MISS YOU JOANN caught a sharp horse last week from a barn that one twice on the night and wound up burning plenty of money at 3-5. In a field that lacks early speed, despite her winless record, she looks like a very logical wire-to-wire threat at short odds again. (1) BLUEBIRD CRUSH has been trying to make up ground late after chasing slow halves and that is a recipe for failure. Perhaps she can stick a bit closer with the inside draw against a sluggish field. (3) HARMONY OF NOTES set the pace and wilted last time. That said, she still beat a bunch of these. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace (6) MARCUS SEELSTER did all the heavy lifting on the front and got blown away by another horse that came from a hot barn that won a pair on the card. Nine-year-old should be firing to the front again and has a big shot to take them all the way. (4) TRY LINE flashed a bit of speed at both ends of his mile last week in another solid effort. I’m not sure I believe in him on the win end but he’s a must underneath for me. (2) QUEEN SUN RYSER sat most of the mile before coming home with some late energy. Let’s look for him to be closer this time. (8) GRACEFUL GALA put up a big mile in defeat last weekend and now owns three straight second-place finishes. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Meadowlands card at DRF Bets.com!] Race 3: Trackmaster 68 (NW L2 70) or less - Survivor 7 (7) BETTER THAN SOME saved all the ground and had a touch of traffic last week with the trainer in the bike. In the prior start he went way too fast on the engine. New driver this week makes this guy intriguing versus a lackluster field. (3) SERGEANT WALT and (6) TELITONTHEMOUNTAIN are two 3-year-olds switching over to the big track in just their five career starts. The latter has been here before versus worlds better and the former is certainly eligible to pick up his game on the mile oval. Both rank as serious contenders and will be on my Pick 5 ticket. Race 4: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace (4) DUCK INTO THE NITE is capable from on or off the pace but may be best served firing out here and making her own luck. We’ll give her the narrow call over (1) KNOCKIN OUT, who returns to The Big M at a reduced level. Most of these hover around the TM71-74 level and he’s never raced below TM77 here. (3) BLUEBIRD TIME worked out a winning trip to win his second start for this barn. He’s got a decent sot here if Longo can work out a similar journey. Race 5: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L2 76.50) or less (8) SPEAK YOUR MIND got a nice even mile under her belt in her debut for this barn with the trainer in the sulky. He calls out for a catch driver now (though Herschberger chose #3 and Beckwith lands here) and I’d expect a more aggressive performance is in the offing. (3) CORSINI A returns here after starting from a string of bad posts at Philly. Veteran is almost certain to be leaving with purpose and should be in a position to succeed. (2) GOING AWAY is super at getting checks but only steps up from time to time; capable on best. (5) FIRSTUP is erratic but does pick up Miller; maybe. Race 6: Trackmaster 71 (NW L2 73.50) or less - $50K GTD Pick 4 (4) BBC SPORTSBOY has been racing well week after week and tonight he lands a Hall of Fame driver while going in a winnable spot. (2) DOUBLE DEALING has a win and a second in his last two tries in this TM71 condition. (8) EXPERT TUTOR reunites with Beckwith, who got him to finish second two starts back in a higher class. Race 7: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $21,500 (NW L2 $30,000) life/W2-5 draw outside/Maidens draw inside (6) ASCENDANCE is a filly I was high on last year and she won her first two starts before missing time and calling it a season after one more try. Her comeback qualifiers really weren’t spectacular and I’m hoping that brings me a healthy price. (3) HIP SHOT was a winner when last seen here and a good second in stakes action at Pocono last time; clear player. (8) VERITY BLUE CHIP has tons of form and plenty of early speed. She’ll probably provide value in here despite both factors. (2) JOSLYN HANOVER is perfect in two starts. How will she do moving to the big track? Will the Lasix make her even better? Race 8: Winners over $12,500 in last 5 or $50,000 life-Handicap - Pick 6 (9) LEXUS KODY went a big mile to be second in the Cutler Memorial and we know he has the early speed to overcome the outside post. (8) OUTSIDE THE FIRE was so sharp before his last mile and now he returns with Lasix added. I’d bite, especially at a good price. (3) S I P was visually impressive charging home to be second last time behind Aetos Kronos, who will go Sunday at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Off that mile he’s a clear player but I’d like to see one win before accepting a shorter price. (7) UP YOUR DEO qualified back well. She was winless as a 4-year-old but has the class to turn it around in a big way this year. Race 9: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace Driver/trainer Mark Silva does a great job of recognizing good spots and getting aggressive. Here he finds one with (6) FRAZIER HANOVER, who has knocked on the door a couple of times but hasn’t been able to get in (he was dq’d once). (3) CHEDDAR SHREDDER was used early and lacked a late kick last time. She can make the front easier tonight. (1) TONY N ROCK failed as the chalk last time. This spot looks easier. Race 10: Trackmaster 71 (NW L2 73.50) or less/NW 2 races life - $50K GTD Pick 4 (7) GOOGOO GODDESS was visually and on paper just ok in her two qualifiers. Taking a closer look at her last one, she did finish in 26 3/5 and was facing some potentially elite competition. In a field without much power, she can finally break through with a confidence building win in her Daley barn debut ahead of stakes season. (4) LIMERANCE finally found a spot where he could show some early speed and that resulted in a decent performance. The road to the top tonight should be without incident. (1) BANK BOX TREASURE sat and finished well last time. He’s a smooth trip threat here. Race 11: Non-winners $5,000 in last 5/TM 80.5 (NW 2L4 82.5) or less/Non-starters TM 83.5 or less l/s (4) HURRIKANE LADY LOU returned here in her last start and just missed behind the even money favorite when that foe got the jump on her. Mare has done very well over this track with a win and five seconds from seven starts, many in a higher class. (7) MY AUGUST MOON A plunges two classes and she consistently goes 1:51 every week. That clocking may be good enough to win depending on the weather forecast. Either way, she’s a must-use on your Pick 4 tickets. (2) MANHATTAN PROJECT comes to town for a sharp barn with a three race winning streak; respect. (8) ALWAYS IN FLIGHT hasn’t done well out of town but did win here in 1:50 4/5 five starts back. Race 12: Trackmaster 74 (NW 2L4 76.50) or less/NW $2,600 in last 5 (3) DROP THE MIC had his issues on the smaller track at Yonkers but now returns to the scene of his last win and a number of other good recent miles. Gelding should be put in play at the start and have a big shot. (2) GOOGOOEYES was a good second last time in a much improved effort; big win threat. (4) MONEY MATTERS finished just a couple of lengths back of #2 a week ago. She’s probably better used underneath in the exotics in her current form. (8) LANDIA is at least worth a look with Gingras taking the lines. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 13: Trackmaster 68 (NW L2 70) or less/NW 1 race life/TM 68-70.10 draw outside (6) EA MUSHU drops back down to the level of her last win and picks up Miller tonight. You have to think she’ll be hustled to the front. (9) JUST MY MAMA also steps down a level to where she won her last race and she reunites with McCarthy. 4) ODDS ON SARA SARA behaved last time at Yonkers and that was a step in the right direction. When last here she was in the TM74 level. (5) HOLD MY TIARA has proved capable when she’s on her game. Race 14: Trackmaster 68 (NW L2 70) or less (1) ROCKABILLY CHARM brushed but came up second best last Friday. His prior start in this class was a win and the inside post should ensure he’s close to the action again. (5) MY WISH CAME TRUE finished just behind the top pick last time and second in his previous start in the TM68 condition two back. He’s a clear win player but one that is far from reliable at just two wins for his last 58 starts. (4) EVER M figures to be on the lead and if he gets away with soft fractions a win is not impossible.
