Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 4/8

Derick Giwner|Apr 06, 2022
Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 298-68-53-48 / $417.40 (-$178.60)

BEST BETS: 22-12-4-2 / $42.00 (-2.00)

SPOT PLAYS: 22-5-6-2 / $34.20 (-$9.80)

BEST BET: HENDERSON SEELSTER (7th)

SPOT PLAY: HURRIKANE GEORGIE (3rd)

Race 1: GSY 1 Pace - Pick 5

(5) CAPTAIN'S REIGN kept close to a quick pace last time and quickly sputtered on the rim while facing better foes. He has the perfect post here to track the early speed and pounce. (6) CECIL CASANOVA closed well last Friday and always seems to be a threat in these amateur races. (4) GOTTALOVEMYSHADOW has regained his form and he could be very interesting here if (7) PREPPY ART, who hails from a barn that won an amateur race last week, doesn't leave and he gets to set a slow pace.

Race 2: TrackMaster Series 77 (NW L3/5/7 77.8/78/78.5) or less Leg 2

Even taking into account the elements, (5) TELLING THE STORY and (2) SHEZABARHOPPINCHIC come out of a much faster race than the rest of these typically travel. While the latter trotted better most recently, I'll try the former on the angle of Lasix being added after she stopped last week. (3) ALLINDOTIME bested a weak field last time but you can’t ignore his recent form.

Race 3: GSY 1 Pace - Survivor 7

(5) HURRIKANE GEORGIE was super in his return race and now owner Peter Kleinhans, an accomplished amateur, jumps in the bike. This is clearly his race to lose. (9) WINNER IS COMING could be a surprise package in the field. Four-year-old came home in a solid 27 seconds versus some decent young foes last week in his first try for the Cano barn. This guy has some ability and it would be no surprise if we saw it tonight. (1) DREAM OUT LOUD N is better near the pace and I'd think Beltrami will be pushing away hard from the cones. (6) SVENGALI only needs some pace help to be a factor.

Race 4: TrackMaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less/NW 1 race in 2021-22

(2) SO DELIGHTFUL ships in from Hoosier for the sharp Cullipher outfit. While she’s coming off a layoff, I'm sure she'll be ready facing a field that looks very beatable. (4) WINNING WORDS freshened up and was much better in her return race. My only hesitancy here is 27 place/show finishes versus just five career wins. (3) KAITLYN N is another camera shy type that has been finishing on the board regularly of late.

Race 5: Non-winners 2 (Not 3rd L3 3) to 4 (Not 3rd L3 5) races life - $50K GTD Pick 4

(6) LITERL LAD HANOVER returns from a three month break in about the best spot he could've hoped to find. While there is some talent in here, most notably (2) ENERGETIC HAOVER, that one seems likely to get another conservative steer. The latter was a sharp finisher in his career debut and seems likely to use similar tactics here. If he's close and gets a clean trip, he'll win. (1) MAJORLY SEXY A is a great story as a 6-year-old trying to break his maiden. He's in with a chance. (7) FIKA TIME is off a monster effort but seems unlikely to get an easy lead this week.

Race 6: TrackMaster 74.5 (NW L3/5 75/75.5) or less

(4) FERDIEONTHEBEACH has been racing reasonably well of late and now he picks up Gingras, who seems highly likely to put him in play versus a soft field. (5) FINAL JUSTICE exits the amateur ranks and is worth a look with a catch-driver in charge. (3) BUNGALOW BILL N comes off a pair of improved efforts. This old guy doesn't like to win anymore but he'll stay close for an exotic slot.

Race 7: Non-winners $4,000 (NW L2 $4,950) in last 5/TM 80.55 or less - Pick 6

(5) HENDERSON SEELSTER showed some signs of life last week with a nice effort. Classy veteran may not be the horse he once was but certainly can do at this level. (7) CHIPLOSIVE continues to drop in company in search of form. Is this the week he wakes up? (2) CLASSIC VENTURE should get away close to the front and have a big shot at stealing a win or hitting the exotics. (4) GOTWUTEVERITTAKES lured McCarthy off #2 and he’s by far the best horse in the race if he can shake his three-race consecutive break streak.

Race 8: GSY 1 Pace

(2) TOPVILLE CRUISER finds a group lacking early speed and this certainly seems to be the perfect spot to gun to the front like he did on March 11 and try to bottom out the field. (4) HAYMITCH and (6) ROCK THE CASBAH are two newcomers to the series who deserve some consideration. If I knew one would leave hard I'd take a shot; watch the score-down. (1) MASTER CONRAD finally draws well, though he'll probably come away slowly anyway. If Chiodo can keep her close he has a shot.

Race 9: $20,000-$25,000 Claiming Handicap - $50K GTD Pick 4

(7) WINDSONG JACK was used hard last week when being claimed and couldn't quite seal the deal. He shouldn't lose any form for new trainer Quevedo and figures to be pointed to the top again. (2) MANHATTAN BEACH was also used and faded last time. He could get a nice pocket trip behind the top pick if he plays his cards right. (6) GAME OF CHANGE rallied well most recently. He has a shot with the right steup.

Race 10: GSY 2 Pace

Unlike race 8 where there was no early speed on paper, this field is loaded with horses that could gun off the wings of the gate. (6) SUNSHINE'S FINEST took advantage of a speed duel a few starts back and should be in position to do it again here if the race sets up as expected. (2) TUXEDO BAY gets a big post shift here and if Silva can work out a trip, he's certainly a player. (8) PARTY BOY finished second behind a runaway winner in #10 last week. He might be closing from last this time but that could very well be the winning move if everyone wants the early lead.

Race 11: Non-winners $10,500 in last 5 or 6 races (NW L3 7) life/TM 84.5 (NW L3/5 85.3/85.5) or less

(7) WESTERN WISH gets major class relief exiting the Matchmaker series at Yonkers. This 4-year-old was a regular against good company at Mohawk as well and she should enjoy seeing this group. (2) BEACH CRAZY took a step forward last time and another slight improvement could be enough to get the job done. (5) FOX VALLEY EXLPOIT shipped in to the Daley barn last time and raced well. She could easily show a bit more now in her second start on the east coast.

Race 12: Non-winners $4,500 (NW L2 $4,951) in last 5/TM 79.5 (NW L3/5 80/80.5) or less

(1) SWEET YOUNG THING comes down from Buffalo where she was racing well in the top classes. New trainer Williams Hernandez found a good spot for her. (4) FILLY was a good second versus slightly better when last here. (5) TANGO DANCER N can't possibly get another trip as bad as last week. (9) J ROCKIN B seems unlikely to win from the tough post but she has enough form to consider in the exotics.
