WINTER MEET STATS: 314-83-67-40 / $530.40 (-$97.60) BEST BETS: 23-6-9-2 / $32.40 (-13.60) SPOT PLAYS: 23-5-4-3 / $33.40 (-$14.60) BEST BET: SHEZAFREAKLIKEME (14th) SPOT PLAY: NIGHT FLYER K (11th) Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Driving Club - Pick 5 (3) STOLEN ART was patiently handled last week in a race that really didn't have much pace or flow. Against a very soft group this time around he seems worth a play at double-digit odds. (10) BEACHY BOY HILL was considering showing some early speed but that plan was quickly changed when the horse to his inside left hard. In a field that seems to lack early zip, maybe the gate tactics will change. (4) FATHER FRED beat most of these last time and he is one with the early speed to gain position. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Non-winners 2 (NW L2 3) races or $20,000 (NW L3 $30,000) life/Maidens draw inside (6) HERODOTUS seems like the most likely horse to come away on the lead here and that is what I'm looking for in a small field of mostly lightly-raced horses coming off qualifiers. That he has two morning works under his belt is a nice plus in terms of conditioning. (5) JAQEN H'GHAR has a bit of an age edge facing mostly 3-year-olds. Walner gelding has always hinted at talent and maybe he's finally ready to put it all together, (2) SAINT LOUIE is the uncoupled stablemate of #5 making his seasonal debut. This barn is adept at having them ready, though I'm not sure he'll be looking to fire a big shot. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Meadowlands card at DRF Bets.com!] Race 3: TrackMaster 74.25 (NW L3/2L5 74.75/75.35) or less - Survivor 7 (3) THE TURNING POINT moved forward nicely with Lasix and Tetrick added to the equation. She remains in the TrackMaster basement and should be capable of besting this group. (2) MILADY DENVER A wasn't going far from post 10 last 10. Veteran is back inside and should be involved early and late. (9) MYMONSTERSAREREAL gets a switch to MacDonald in the bike and could awaken. (6) ALWAYS B ROYALTY got good at Monticello and now tries the big track again. She's worth a look in the post parade. Race 4: Standardbred Retirement Foundation 3-year-old filly trot Final (4) THE EMPRESS ICE got away with soft fractions last time but really did look impressive as she was barely stressed if at all in victory. I'm inclined to think there is more in the tank. (6) SHEER FAITH chased the top one and couldn’t make a dent in her lead on April 7. If she finds a bit more she’ll be very tough. (2) BELLA MACCHIATO is the fastest filly in the group on paper and certainly one to consider. Race 5: Meadowlands Amateur Driving Club (5) TAKEITTOTHEFACE rallied very nicely last week from off the pace and has turned in a number of good efforts lately. Versatile start can win from on or off the pace and the later seems likely in a race with some early speed players. (8) TEXAS TERROR N hasn't thrown in too many bad efforts as a 15-year-old. (1) JONAH blasted to the front and was somewhat isolated while safely holding on for the win. The path on the lead may have more obstacles here. (2) ROCKABILLY CHARM and (7) SUNSHINE’S FINEST are upset players if the pace gets hot as either can rally fast. Race 6: Standardbred Retirement Foundation 3-year-old filly pace Final - $50K GTD Pick 4 (4) ALWAYS B NAUGHTY and (5) SUPER GIRL seems to have a raw speed edge on this group and finished a head apart when they last met on March 31. Let's give a slight edge to the former as the post edge could be key here. (3) ANNA'S WISH looked good two starts back and had a tougher trip last time. Can she find more? Race 7: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L3 $5,500) in last 5/TM 80.5 or less (3) SWAN TRIXIE tried to leave a bit last time but had to abort, got caught a bit wide on the turn and just never got underway after that on the half-mile track. Notice her career-best mile is on this track and previously she was doing well on the big track up North. (4) VINNY DE VIE sat last the entire way, got shut off up the inside and was never really asked for speed with no shot at a check. That mile was a nice sign of good things after a string of breaks. (5) HOCKEY HANOVER steps up but is certainly capable if he feels like bringing his 'A' game. (7) MASSIVE MATTER has been a new horse with hobbles added. Race 8: Non-winners $5,000 in last 5/TM 80.5 (NW L3/2L5 81/81.5) or less - Pick 6 (1) TONY'S MOM bowed out of an 8-hole assignment at Yonkers on Friday for this much cushier spot. Four-year-old mare has been good since the barn change and I'm expecting a new lifetime mark here if she wins. (5) DBLDELITEBRIGADE N missed by just a head in this class last weekend. (8) UPTOWN LADY N will be sitting last but might have found a field with enough early speed to set her up. Race 9: Meadowlands Amateur Driving Club Amateur driver Nicole Dicostanzo tends to have a good sense of when to leave hard and when to take back. Here she lands on a horse that has been closing well for her of late from bad posts; moves inside now. (4) CLAYTONS BETTOR N and (10) LITTLE HONEYBADGER are sharp horses with early speed in their arsenals; very dangerous. (6) TRENTE DEO had too far to come last time but was a sharp winner in this class two starts back. Race 10: Winners 4-7 (NW L3 8) races or $85,000 life - $50K GTD Pick 4 (4) ALL ABOUT THE HUNT blew out a big qualifier last weekend to prepare for his 4-year-old debut and should be ready to take charge in this small field. (1) EARLY ACTION was raced conservatively as expected to start his year. Former rookie standout has done little since but it's worth giving him at least one chance to shine with the start now under his halter. (6) STONEBRIDGE REEF is 12 for 13 in-the-money this year. He's always getting a piece of the pie. Race 11: Non-winners $3,000 in last 5/TM 77 (NW L3/2L5 77.5/78.25) or less (2) NIGHT FLYER K has been stuck in some bad posts on the half-miler up at Saratoga. Now this gal shows up in a sweet spot here and gets Dunn in the bike. Wake-up time! (3) GOLDEN CROSS STONE is very capable of winning or breaking in this spot. (10) BLOGMASTER moves into a new barn and is certainly eligible to show more. (7) HOROSCOPE was used hard last time and lacked a stretch kick. Perhaps the road to the front will be easier here. Race 12: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5 (5) EDDARD HANOVER really hasn't been that bad since returning here and tonight he gets a monster class drop. If he can't win in this spot it may be time for a venue change. Tetrick did choose #1, but it seems like a barn loyalty selection. (2) ST LADS BEAT IT returns to The Meadowlands where he was racing ok from tough posts versus higher conditioned foes; using. (6) GUYS IN THE BAND has the early speed to make the top and can certainly hang around for an exotic slot. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 13: TrackMaster 74 (NW L3/2L5 74.50/75.20 or NW2 since 6/18/22 75.55) or less (2) HOLD ME CLOSER raced very well in her 3-year-old debut and catches up with a very weak field this week. It makes sense that she'll be kept close to the front in a race that seems to lack early speed. (8) BOASTER COASTER was written into the race. His last start in this class from post 10 wasn’t bad and his prior try in this class resulted in a win. (5) USURP HANOVER has been putting in steady performances of late and was just a couple of lengths behind the top pick last time. Race 14: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5/TM 77.5 (NW L3/2L5 78/78.75) or less (4) SHEZAFREAKLIKEME raced evenly last time while up in class. She drops to the basement condition here and should prove difficult to beat. (1) LETS RYDE GIRL makes her second start back from a few months on the sidelines and should only improve. She put in a solid year in 2022. (2) ROCKNROLL NELLA has been racing well of late and she takes the same drop as the top pick. (6) SHOTGUN PERSUASION takes a shot on the big track and perhaps that will turn around her fortunes.
