Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 4/1

Derick Giwner|Mar 30, 2022
Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 272-61-48-41 / $389.20 (-$154.80)

BEST BETS: 20-10-4-2 / $37.40 (-2.60)

SPOT PLAYS: 20-4-5-2 / $30.20 (-$9.80)

BEST BET: DOUBLE ACCOUNT (6th)

SPOT PLAY: SHEZAFREAKLIKEME (2nd)

Race 1: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L3 $8,250) in last 5/TM 82 or less - Pick 5

(4) SKYWAY KON MAN gets some class relief while moving to an ideal post. This isn't the easiest race for the class but he should be a player. (2) PAPPY GO GO is another getting a class break. His results when last here were mixed. His best is good enough. (5) MEMO changes barns and comes down from Canada where he was facing solid foes; seems like a fit.

Race 2: Winners 1-2 races or $30,000 life/Maidens draw inside

(7) SHEZAFREAKLIKEME tried last week but came up short off the bench. Let's stick with her and expect more now. (4) SWEET ROCK DEO has done it right in her qualifiers with strong final quarters and Pelling certainly knows how to get one ready. (6) SUGAR BOWL made a move to the front and blew up last time. She probably deserves another shot at a better price now.

Race 3: GSY 1 Pace - Survivor 7

(5) BIG BAD BILL was used to the front and went a big mile for second last time. While I may not run to the windows to bet him, this 8-year-old looks like the one to beat. (2) TAKEITTOTHEFACE has been fairly consistent in recent weeks and seems to be coming into form. (6) TJ BLAST picks up the best amateur driver at the track. At this point Verruso seems like a must use in every start.

Race 4: TrackMaster 74.5 (NW L3/2L5 75/75.35) or less/4YO non-starters in 2022

(1) DEEFIELD BEACH drops back into a class he wired two starts back and kept his form reasonably well last time. (3) STELLAR FELLER returns from a long break in action off a decent qualifier. New trainer Juan Cano adds Lasix and I wouldn't be surprised if he popped at a decent price against a lackluster field. (8) ALWAYS A FORCE was used hard last time and paid the price last time. He's a player with a smoother trip.

Race 5: GSY 1 Pace

(5) GOTTALOVEMYSHADOW seemed to be coming into form when he went to Yonkers and stopped badly after getting used early. He's back on the big track now and should be able to make the front and sit a good trip. (2) SVENGALI comes off a nice win last week and it was clear he was sitting on a good race. Now that Silva has this guy right he is capable of stringing together wins. (4) MAKE IT BIG gets post relief and seems like a good fit in this amateur race; using.

Race 6: Non-winners $10,500 in last 5 or 3 races in 2021-22 - $50K GTD Pick 4

(2) DOUBLE ACCOUNT only drops one class but the difference in competition is HUGE. Seven-year-old should be able to handle this group. (6) JUSTLIKEHIM has been fairly consistent and also shown versatility. (5) ZIG ZAG is worth a look on the trainer change angle.

Race 7: GSY 1 Pace

This is another crapshoot of an amateur race with many possible options. (5) CECIL CASANOVA should offer some value and the move to the middle of the gate is ideal. Silva has done very well in these races. (3) PREPPY ART battled early through fast fractions and hung in nicely last time. Veteran only needs a smooth trip. (10) DOC SEMALU is one of the sharpest horses in the race, but he's been hanging a bit; using underneath only. (2) KINGOFTHEJUNGLE gets involved every week and should show his class again.

Race 8: Non-winners $4,500 in last 5 or in 2022/TM 79.5 or less - Pick 6

(8) SUMMER RAE was a nice little NY-bred last year and I loved her effort last week in her second start back from the long vacation. We should get value on this mare with #1 and #6 sure to take money. (6) SHES A SASSY BEACH came up a bit short in her Burke barn debut while returning from six weeks on the sidelines. Expect her to be better but also expect a short price. (1) TENTHOUSAND ANGELS has displayed a powerful closing kick for the high-percentage Bongiorno stable.

Race 9: GSY 2 Pace

I never knew that Michael Kimelman was an amateur. For the record his 525 career driving wins is probably triple the number of victories by the rest of the drivers combined. Anyway, (5) PARTY BOY has been sitting on a win IMO and seems to have landed in a perfect spot to see it through for Kimelman. (6) CHEYENNE RYAN LEE has the early speed to make the front and picks up a very capable pilot. (4) NOTABADGAME is another who has been racing reasonably well and has a top amateur. (3) CAPTAIN’S REIGN moves into a better post and has a right to improve. I wouldn’t sleep on this guy.

Race 10: Non-winners $10,500 (NW L2 $11,600) in last 5/TM 85.75 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(1) FOX VALLEY EXPLOIT comes to town from Illinois where she was facing the best the state has to offer. It's hard to say what she'll do at The Big M but at least she caught a somewhat soft field. (8) BEACH CRAZY has the speed to make the front in a field that seems to lack that quality and I'm expecting her to be tighter in her second start since October. (5) UPTOWN LADY N seems to be retaining her form nicely and only needs a smooth trip to have a shot.

Race 11: Non-winners $2,500 in last 5 or 1 race in 2021-22/TM 75.5 (NW L3 76) or less

(3) RABLE broke upon arrival from Yonkers where she was facing much better. If you look past that miscue she looks imposing against this group. (1) KAITLYN N has some early speed and form but no wins since 2020. (8) IDEAL CLASSIC drops to the basement condition for a trainer that excels on these moves. (6) BRUSH N CRUSH is another class-dropper worth considering.

Race 12: Winners over $50,000 lifetime

(1) ROCKN PHILLY has been facing some nice mares at Yonkers. She has enough early speed to ensure close-up position. (7) WATCH ME NOW N qualified back sharply. She's the one to beat if ready off the bench. (5) BETTORS HEART N returns to The Meadowlands where her closing kick usually gives her a big shot.

Race 13: TrackMaster Series 77 (NW L3/5/7 77.5/78/78.5) or less - Leg 1

(6) ALLINDOTIME ships in sharp from Freehold where he was racing in the top classes before becoming an amateur regular. This guy has been here in the past (2020) and performed reasonably well. (5) EPOS OSTERVANG DK opened up a good lead and was life and death to hang on last week. Without much speed signed on here a similar try should be in the offing. (1) PREACHER MAN wasn't bad last week versus #5 and now he gets Callahan in the bike. (11) TRENTS A LOCK shows up every week with a decent effort; using underneath.
