WINTER MEET STATS: 181-55-23-24 / $321.20 (-$40.80) BEST BETS: 12-3-3-0 / $12.20 (-$11.80) SPOT PLAYS: 13-2-3-2 / $7.80 (-$18.20) BEST BET: GALLIE GETAWAY (9th) SPOT PLAY: BIONIC (5th) Race 1: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace - Pick 5 (6) IAMMRBRIGHTSIDE N showed some early speed and battled nicely in defeat last time. 15-year-old finally makes starts in consecutive weeks and maybe that is a sign that he’s ready to win. (3) STOLEN ART went his best mile of the year last weekend; needs the right trip. (4) BETTER THAN SOME hasn’t raced in five weeks but his best would certainly make him a serious contender. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L2/2L4 75/75.5) or less/NW 1 race in 2024 or TM71.5 or less/Opt. $12,500 Clm. (4) FEARLESS SHELIA swung wide off cover and was just even last time, though the mile went pretty quick and I thought that was a better field than she faces tonight. She’s in for a tag tonight and I expect we’ll see a strong performance. (3) FIRSTUP was taken back quickly when the horse to her inside left in her last start. She should be put in play this week moving to a better post. (6) IDEAL SKIES could be on the lead this week as she reunites with Herschberger. Race 3: $15,000-$20,000 Claiming Handicap - Survivor 7 (7) ECHO DE MEAUTIS FR has won back to back races in this class and done it both on the lead and from just off the pace. Best of all the price should remain reasonable with (8) SHINKSANSEN signed on and getting David Miller in the bike. His main issue is that the top one as well as (5) MONI’S HEAVEN CENT are likely going to leave, thus complicating the trip. The latter has raced well against this type a number of times with no wins to show for it. Race 4: Trackmaster 69 (NW L2/2L4 68.5/69) or less I’ll take a shot here with Dover shipper (1) GLITTERING HOPE despite her missing five weeks of action. She was out most of the first quarter and the final half in her last win. Tonight she gets in against the bottom TM types because she’s never been on a mile track and I think she can handle them if ready to roll. (4) JUST MY MAMA was outsprinted off the gate last week, made a big brush to the front and tired. Class drop tonight back to her comfort level should help her chances, though Beckwith chose #2. (7) THANEEYA has early speed and three recent second-place finishes in this condition. Race 5: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace (5) BIONIC has been hampered by bad posts and tougher competition outside of the amateur ranks. Barn has a way of waking them up when they land in the right spots. (4) SUNSHINE’S FINEST is another switching back to amateur races. He finished second and first, respectively, in his previous two starts in the class. (3) DUNSAN HARRY took advantage of a contested pace to rally for second behind an open-lengths winner last time. Four-year-old seems worth a look. (5) HOWLINGATTHEMOON DK is worth some consideration on the addition of Lasix angle. Race 6: Non-winners $5,000 (NW 2L5 $5,501) in last 4 or $6,500 in 2024-25/TM 80.5 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4 (2) BULLY BOY HILL comes off a nice confidence building victory at Pocono on Tuesday versus cheaper. Six-year-old has plenty of class to handle the bump up in company and the early speed to secure position. (8) TOUGH MUSCLE reunites with Miller and those two went a career mile when last together in early January. (6) WILLOWTIME is a horse I still think has some talent. Can he put it all together tonight? Race 7: Trackmaster 71.5 (NW L2/2L4/NW1since5-1-24 72/72.5/73.01) or less/Opt. $7,500 Clm. (4) GOING AWAY has been stuck with outside posts since dropping to this class. Four-year-old isn’t a standout but neither are any of these. (2) DUCK INTO THE NITE took a shot on the rim and paid the price last Friday. Driver/trainer Hernandez is still winless at the meet but it’s not like he isn’t capable. (6) DREAM PILLAR and (5) AINTNOHOLLABACKGRL both closed nicely last time in a race where the top spots where dominated by off the pace horses. They’ll take money now and that’s my concern. Both are viable at 8-1 or higher. Race 8: Winners 2-4 (NW L2 5) races or $50,000 life - Pick 6 (4) LUKE’S BAR tracked the winner from third-over and despite a 27-second final quarter couldn’t get by that stubborn foe. He should be a bit closer to the action tonight and gets the narrow call over (2) ROCKET MAN HILL, who won impressively on his own late a week ago. The only question mark comes with the barn change tonight. Can he keep his form? (5) PISCES RISING seems to enjoy the bigger track and was a winner when last seen here on January 3. Race 9: Meadowlands Amateur Drivers Club 1 Pace (4) GALLIE GETAWAY is down in class for a barn having a great meet. Gelding should be firing to the front and prove very tough to beat. (1) CAPTAIN TERMINATOR came up short after missing almost eight weeks of action. I expect we’ll see a better effort and I’ll probably use him on one Pick 4 ticket in case something crazy happens to the top pick. (7) LOVETHEWAYYOULIE rallied very well in his last start. Is he coming into form or was that an anomaly? Race 10: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L2 $5,950) in last 4/TM 80.5 (NW L2/2L4 81/81.75) to 85 (NW L3 85.5) or less - $50K GTD Pick 4 (7) MADRID A was written into this race on the AE condition as she drops multiple levels on the class ladder. If she is anything close to 100% coming off the scratched-sick line than a victory is likely. (1) MISS DOTTIE MAE has dangerous inside speed and Miller in the bike. She’ll be heard from tonight. (8) TAKING THE MIKI A is the other mare in the field which gets in via the AE condition. The qualifier last week with Lasix was sharp. (2) PATTYCAKE MOOSS lured Miller off #1 and is an obvious trip threat if the top one doesn’t show up for some reason. Race 11: Trackmaster 73.5 (NW L2/2L4 74/74.5) or less (6) JAYDENS PRIDE has been second and third best in his last two starts and while my confidence level is low with him on the win end, this field is so weak that he gets the call by default. None of these horses is very reliable and it might not be a bad call to press the ALL button in the pick 4 if you can find a couple of other singles. (2) ZLATAN has some decent races in this class and picks up the red-hot Beckwith. (1) CRAZYCAT gets class relief but isn’t exactly a big “win” horse over the last year. Race 12: Trackmaster 71.5 (NW L2/2L4 72/72.75) or less (4) ROJAN’S WAY is certainly sharp and I don’t see much other early speed in the field. This could certainly be the horse to get Hernandez off the 0-fer. (7) NATIONAL SPORT keeps Miller after consecutive second-place finishes. Eight-year-old seems on the cusp of a win. (1) INCREDIBLE BADGER exits the amateur ranks and this barn has done well with this driver in the past. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 13: Non-winners $3,000 in last 4/TM 77.5 (NW L2/2L4/2L6 78/78.5/78.75) or less (8) ALLINDOTIME gets a key driver change to Zeron, who will likely rev this guy up in a field without much early zip or a standout. (4) BLUE BAYOU DEO had a bad post and got caught in a fast mile when last seen in this class on January 17. You should get a fair price here on a mare that only has one win in her last 33 starts. (9) SALEM SEELSTER broke as the 4-5 chalk last time and now Miller joins the team from an outside post. I worry that he’ll be overbet again but respond his chances. (3) CENTURY INVADER has the speed to make the front early and he should be sitting a good trip. Race 14: Trackmaster 68 (NW L2/2L4 68.5/69) or less (3) OUR CORELLI N was used to the front last week and lacked a stretch rally. Still, it was a good effort and the move to a better post will help his chances. (5) IM A DIRECTOR N drops back down to the level of his last win. (2) SARGEANT SONNY has some early speed and decent form but can’t seem to get over the hump.
