Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 3/19

Derick Giwner|Mar 17, 2021
Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 133-25-16-21 / $121.60 (-$144.40)
BEST BETS: 10-6-0-1 / $20.00 (+0.00)
BEST BET:
BLACKWELL RUBY IR (7th)
SPOT PLAY: TOM'S AROCKIN (3rd)

Race 1: GSY Amateur Series - Pick 5

(7) TASTE OF HISTORY was used through fast fractions and weakened in the late stages a week ago. He gets a post edge on his main foes here on #9 and hopefully will be able to rate better. (9) ROCKINWITHTHEBEST has good early speed and plenty of form. (3) IDEAL TYSON A arrives from Freehold and seems to be in a decent spot with a good amateur pilot. That said, I like them better underneath.

Race 2: $10,000 Claiming

(7) OCEAN COLONY returned from a short vacation with a steady effort last time. Classy 7-year-old drops in for a tag and figures to bring a strong effort. (6) WATCHMENEIGHNEIGH seems to be at the right level and only needs a reasonable trip to be a player. (4) GOTTA GO B B reunites with Allard and will certainly be heading to the front.

Race 3: $7,500 Claiming - Survivor 7

(9) TOM'S AROCKIN has been better since the barn change. Six-year-old drops in claiming price and while he seemingly has no early speed, I expect him to grind this soft group down. (2) POP ICON and (5) SOSSY’S KING KONG both came up flat in their first starts for new stables and either is capable of turning it around in a hurry.

Race 4: Non-winners $2,500 in last 5/TM Rating 75.8 or less

(1) FIREFLY has been awful since moving into the Burke barn, but she wasn't as bad from a bad post last week and this is a class drop. Also of note that this barn was struggling here before going 2-for-6 last weekend; heating up? (9) TWINSBURG was second in this class two and three starts back. (4) VH PRINCESS BREA moves into a better post and might revert to aggressive tactics.

Race 5: TrackMaster Rating 73.5 (NW L3 74) or less

(1) BRASS MONKEY gets some much needed post relief and finished up his mile nicely the last time he drew well. Against a very weak group, he only need to stick close to have a shot. (6) ROYAL COURTIER is clearly the one to beat after two decent tries, but very hard to love as the chalk. (8) CASHNCAM has his work cut out for him from post eight. With a clean trip he can contend.

Race 6: Non-winners $4,500 (NW L3 $5,100) in last 5/TM Rating 78.5 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(8) DARKRSHADEOFPALE N took plenty of air last week and paid the price. If Beyer can work out a more reasonable trip, this is a good spot. (5) KAY'S DELIGHT gets some class relief and can certainly show more. (1) SWEETER LULU steps back up but was ultra-impressive last weekend.

Race 7: Non-winners $2,500 in last 5/TM Rating 75.8 or less/Opt. $10,000 Clm.

(6) BLACKWELL RUBY IR qualified back well and really doesn't face much tonight. If she is anything close to her best, this Ireland import should shine. (5) LAURIE LEE is perfect in four starts this year yet gets into this cheap condition on the TrackMaster Rating angle. (7) WOODMERE OLESNIAK is down in class but off form. She's worth a look in the post parade.

Race 8: Play Meadowlands Consolation - Pick 6

(4) LUCK N ROLL K made an aggressive move to the front and faded in the stretch last time. That was still a good effort and I'm going to stay here one more week. (6) IDEAL SON gets an interesting barn change. He hasn't been good in a while but I wouldn't be shocked by a wake-up. (5) TWO FIFTYEIGHT N was bad a week ago and solid two back. Now we get the hot hands of Gingras. Which horse do we get?

Race 9: Non-winners $4,500 (NW L3 $5,100) in last 5/TM Rating 75 or less/Opt. $15,000 Clm.

(2) HALO ITS ME woke up with a nice performance last week and can get over the hump here. (3) CHIEF JUSTICE drops back down and catches a softer group than his last start at this level. (5) MARVELOUSTRIX seems to be maxed out at about 1:55, but that time could be good enough for a board spot tonight.

Race 10: Play Meadowlands Finals - $50K GTD Pick 4

(2) STATESMAN N blew them away in the preliminary round and on paper the classy 14-year-old should destroy them again. (3) ROCKIN RAMBARAN flashed early speed and raced well for second a week ago. He could provide some value without a catch-driver. (5) NORTHERN ROCK scored at first asking for new connections and certainly merits a look tonight.

[DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Meadowlands card at DRF Bets.com!]

Race 11: Non-winners 2 (NW L3 3) races or $20,000 (NW L3 $22,000) life

(6) MANHATTANUP NO ICE is the sharpest horse in the race and he also has the early speed to control it. It's his race to lose but it is hard to get excited about betting him. (4) SHE MUST BE MAGIC has been flat but she does get a new set of hands at the controls. Sometimes that makes a big difference. (7) TEQUILA N ROSES closed pretty well last time and could be moving in the right direction. (2) TORN TO PIECES AS is a 3-year-old making his first career start against a questionable field. He gets Tetrick here for the first time in 2021 to stop by on his way home from Yonkers; worth some consideration.

Race 12: Winners over $50,000 life – Handicap

There are only six horses signed on but this field came up tough. (6) MAJOR OCCASION A qualified back sharply and has plenty of back class to call upon. If there is ample pace she could roll past late. (4) SWEET LUCY LOU rolled past a couple of these last week in a very impressive mile. (3) BETALADY gets plenty of post relief and isn't trip-dependent.

Race 13: Non-winners $2,500 (NW L3 $3,000) in last 5/TM Rating 75.5 or less/Opt. $10,000 Clm.

This race is virtually impossible on paper. (4) NEXTROUNDSONME has some breaking issues, but if McCarthy can somehow keep him trotting, this certainly looks like a winning spot. (2) CHARLIE ONA HARLEY is the sharpest and most consistent horse in the race right now. (5) OMAHA OMAHA isn't the easiest horse to handle, but maybe the addition of hobbles tonight will make the difference. (8) UNCLE HANOVER drops to the basement condition and would be no surprise.
