Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 3/18

Derick Giwner|Mar 16, 2022
Meadowlands logo (new)

MEET STATS: 220-48-34-31 / $300.40 (-$139.60)

BEST BETS: 16-7-3-2 / $27.00 (-5.00)

SPOT PLAYS: 16-4-3-2 / $30.20 (-$1.80)

BEST BET: SCIROCCO ROB (8th)

SPOT PLAY: SVENGALI (5th)

Race 1: GSY Pace - Pick 5

(1) S MCKEE is clearly back in form now and the inside draw gives him some options. (8) WAIMAC ATTACK N went a big mile in his lone amateur try last weekend and certainly deserves a look here despite another outside post. (6) DREAM OUT LOUD N finally gets a decent post to work with and should have to work too hard to make the front.

Race 2: TrackMaster Rating 77 (NW L3/5 77.5/78) or less

(7) HALLIAMA found himself in another time zone early and charged home in 26 4/5 with absolutely no chance. As long as Chartrand can keep him within four or five lengths of the lead, he has a big shot. (4) P L OSCAR has been perfect since switching barns. The question is whether he can do it on the mile track. Don't take a short price here. (3) PRESIDENT has early speed and form; capable.

Race 3: Non-winners 2 races or $25,000 life/Maidens draw inside - Survivor 7

(8) MAJORLY SEXY A was a willing second while under his own power last time qualifying behind an Open pacer. There are some questions as to whether this rare first-timer 6-year-old will be close enough to the front to win, but as long as he isn't odds-on, I'll try my luck. (6) SHAKE IT beat many of these last week when he got away with soft fractions and sprinted home nicely; one to beat. (3) SILVERSTONE probably needed the start last week but still has to step up to go with the top pair.

Race 4: Non-winners $2,500 (NW L3 $2,800) in last 5 or life/TM 75 (NW L3/5/10 75.5/76/76.7)

(6) GREYSTONE NATALIO is ready to win a race in a cheap class like this if she can just get the right trip. (7) DANCE TICKET put in a meaningful qualifier last time while finishing behind Open mares. I expect her to be live in this debut start. (4) LITTLE SANDY TOES could be put on the lead this week but is far from reliable.

Race 5: GSY Pace

This is a sketchy group and the type of spot where a Mark Silva trainee would normally step up. Silva took a shot first-over with (4) SVENGALI last time and backed up after a bid. Don't be shocked if he is sent to the top this time. (3) GALACTIC GALLEON N had no shot last weekend and now draws much better. (7) KINGOFTHEJUNGLE is certainly the fastest horse early in the mile and if he gets away cheap, watch out!

Race 6: TrackMaster 79.5 Final - $50K GTD Pick 4

(4) IN THE NIGHT brushed and just missed behind (7) WAKEMESHAKEME last time. Super-sharp mare can turn the tables on her foe from the better post. The latter was an uncovered winner and the clear horse to beat tonight. (6) TENTHOUSAND ANGELS finished well last time and perhaps has a shot if kept closer to the action.

Race 7: GSY Pace

(3) FERDINAND A is certainly going to be put in play early and should be able to work out a reasonable trip. (7) DOC SEMALU is reasonably sharp and has the hottest amateur driver on the continent. (9) WILD COUNTRY exits some tougher races and this barn seemed to heat up a bit last weekend. (10) PREPPY ART is stuck in post 10 but posted a very impressive win for this pilot last Friday.

Race 8: Non-winners $10,500 (NW L3 $11,550) in last 5/TM 85 or less - $10,303 Pick 6 Carryover

(5) SCIROCCO ROB disappointed many people last week but actually improved off his first start back. Let's hope with Tetrick at Yonkers, enough people get off the bandwagon to get us 8-5 here. (6) NO DRAMA PLEASE raced well coming off a three month break in action and should step forward now. (4) MEADOWBRANCH RICKY is not overly enticing on the win end but does seem to hit the board plenty.

Race 9: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L3 $8,250) in last 5/TM 82 (NW L3/5 82.5/83) or less

(3) RONNIE GOLDSTEIN raced pretty well last time considering he had missed over a year of action. He's worth a look here at hopefully a double-digit mutuel. (7) DELTASUN A hasn’t been racing very well lately but gets a key class drop tonight. Nine-year-old can show his class here. (4) HENDERSON SEELSTER reunites here with Andy Miller and he tends to handle him well.

Race 10: Non-winners $10,500 (NW L3 $11,600) in last 5/TM 85.75 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(7) UPTOWN LADY N finished fast last out with no shot versus any number of mares who would be odds-on in this spot. As long as they give her a hint of pace up front to chase, she'll be firing late. (6) DBLDELITEBRIGADE and (5) COUSIN MARY invade from Yonkers and could be sitting one-two around the track in this somewhat abbreviated field.

Race 11: Non-winners $4,500 (NW L3 $4,950) in last 5/TM 79.5 (NW L2/5 80/80.51)

(3) INNISFALLEN sneaks back over to The Meadowlands at a reduced level. He’s faced much better here and won in the past year. The questions are centered on whether he's sharp enough and whether the "wake-up" will come next week when he could fall into the bottom class. (5) SAYLOR has missed a bunch of time but was a solid performer in the top ranks at Vernon. Notice the horse that beat him in the qualifier is in the NW10000 class. (2) TRUMP THIS woke up in a big way for the new barn. (7) BIRDMAN and (8) BIG RICH are capable horses with the early speed to be put in play.

Race 12: TrackMaster 77.96 (NW L3/5 78/78.5) or less

After burning some money here over the last month perhaps the shine is off (5) UNDERTAKER and it is time to jump on his bandwagon. He's more than capable of winning versus a field with many viable options. (3) MAKE IT BIG was an impressive winner last time and is clearly sharp now. (2) CRUNCH looks like the one to beat with a quick look but the "Izzy Express" went off the tracks last week taking plenty of money with it. (8) SAFETY SECOND did well in his first start for this barn; improves?

Race 13: Non-winners $2,500 (NW L3 $2,800) in last 5 or life/TM 75 (NW L3/5 75.5/76)/Opt. $10K Clm.

(3) NIMAH FRANCO gets a key class break into the basement condition and has no excuses for failure. (4) PAPPY ROCKS found her form for Quevedo and should be able to stay on track for the new barn off the claim. (2) BE BEST moves back to the inside of the gate and should mix it up early. (8) DANDY IDEA comes to town with a long winning streak but only a 1:56 lifetime mark as a 5-year-old with 45 career starts. I have to question his big track ability, especially if the price is short.
