Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 2/10

Derick Giwner|Feb 08, 2023
Meadowlands logo (new)

WINTER MEET STATS: 123-28-21-19 / $188.60 (-$57.40)

BEST BETS: 9-0-5-2 / $0.00 (-18.00)

SPOT PLAYS: 9-1-1-1 / $5.00 (-$13.00)

BEST BET: SUPER GIRL (6th)

SPOT PLAY: PRAISE ME HANOVER (14th)

Race 1: GSY 1 Pace - Pick 5

(6) ALWAYS A PANTHER has some early speed in his arsenal, which should come in handy versus a field that seems to lack that quality. His last two races have been better. (5) HOWTOTRAINURDRAGON has been caught in some faster miles lately. He may be able to make some noise in this group. (3) MV OK PALACIO BR is certainly capable but always trip dependent from off the pace. (2) TAKEITTOTHEFACE could easily leave around #1 and wind up sitting a sweet trip.

Race 2: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5/TM 77.5 (NW L3/5 78/78.5) or less

(1) REPLICA HANOVER wasn't bad from off the pace in his debut for this barn. In a race where (3) KING ALPHONSO will likely be bet with both hands by most, perhaps #1 can step up his game a notch and give him a good battle. Or perhaps #3 won't bring his best as he hasn't won in years. (6) FIX-IT-UP raced better last time with Lasix added and is clearly a threat.

Race 3: Trackmaster 74.25 (NW L3/5 74.75/75.25) or less - Survivor 7

This is an interesting collection of horses and while most people will likely flock to my second pick (1) TRANS MEANIE on the trainer change and subsequent solid qualifier, I'm going to look outside the box at (8) CASIE'S BELIEVER. Here's a mare that has been in stuck in outside posts at Monticello and Yonkers with no real shot. She has a bit of early speed in her arsenal and I can see Chindano using it and her back class to make some noise. (2) WIGGLE MY COOKIE also has some early speed along with form. She made more last year than anyone else in the field, though it was easier going against 3-year-olds.

Race 4: Non-winners 2 (NW L3 3) races or $20,000 (NW L3 $30,000) life

No one is going to be excited to play this race. (10) MAKE IT EASY has the speed to make the front from post 10 and should appreciate the switch back to the big track. Hopefully the bad draw will mean a reasonable price. (3) SV ROYAL FLUSH took plenty of air last out and should have a clean road to the front this time; adds Dunn! (7) MAKIN MAGIC TONITE went a clean mile with hobbles added; more now?

Race 5: GSY 1 Pace

(8) SPORTS HERO has two wins in his last four starts and both were with the trainer in the bike in these GSY races. While she'll have some company leaving the gate from (6) CLAYTONS BETTOR N, they could line up here and walk around the track. (4) WILLIAM MCWHISKERS is more than capable of winning if ready to roll after missing a few weeks after a scratched-sick line.

Race 6: Non-winners 2 (NW L3 3) races or $20,000 (NW L2 $30,500) life/Maidens draw inside - $50K GTD Pick 4

(2) SUPER GIRL improved in her second career start and now Dunn joins the team. I won't be expecting a price but do expect a win. (5) COALFORDSNSHINE GB qualified well enough and these Great Britain shippers have done well for Burke. (6) ALWAYS BEACHY gunned to the front last time and held for a good piece. Similar tactics seem likely here.

Race 7: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,331) in last 5/TM 77.5 (NW L3/510 78/78.5/78.75) or less/Opt. $12,500 Clm.

(3) A BETTER GAME has been getting some confidence while down in class despite a pair of losses. In a field where even the favorites have questions to answer, I'll take a shot with her at a price. (1) LADY ROCKNROLLA A is certainly back in with softer foes and she clearly deserves to be the chalk. (5) RABLE and (7) SHES A SASSY BEACH are both dropping a level and they have early speed; hard to toss them completely.

Race 8: Winners 2-4 (NW L3 5) races or $50,000 (NW L3 $60,000) life - Pick 6

(4) FRANK THE ELDER was in a much better spot last Friday when racing was canceled due to cold weather. That said, He still stacks up nicely here and drew perfectly to race from on or off the pace. (7) A NEW LEADER certainly responded to the class drop and addition of Lasix. Horse is going well now and the barn has been doing better, so expecting him to handle this group isn't out of the question. (2) KELLY’S BABY went a career-best mile last time, but that was for a different barn and took place five weeks ago. Let's take a good look at her in the post parade and warm-up.

Race 9: Trackmaster 77.5 (NW L3/2L5 78/78.5) or less

(4) MELANIE'S NICK doesn't get a catch-driver this week but it is hard to look past the fact that this horse has won his last two starts in this Trackmaster condition and done so from on and off the pace. (6) LINCOLN BOULEVARD returns here in a soft field and adds Dunn to the team, but his 4-for-63 career record doesn't inspire confidence. (1) FERDINAND A will be firing out from the inside and is simply too sharp to ignore. (10) RAPTORS FLIGHT N is a capable horse stuck in a bad post.

Race 10: Non-winners $10,500 (NW L3 $11,550) in last 5 or 6 races life/TM 85.30 (NW L3/2L5 85.75/86.75) or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(6) CHAPHEART raced very well while chasing a sharp winner last time. Four-year-old has every right to be even better this week in his second start since October. Gingras switches to #1 but he has to because he owns the horse. (3) NYLANDER moves to the inside of the gate and he can very well be sitting first or second in this mile. (4) LUCKY WEEKEND will be a big price and while his chances are completely reliant on the pace scenario, I wouldn't fall off my chair if he got into the number.

Race 11: $12,500-$15,000 Claiming Handicap

(3) BET THE LIMIT went a career-best mile last time as he romped against cheaper claimers. This is a big step up and he changes barns, but if he can repeat that performance one more time he’ll be taking a picture. (7) MADDOX HANOVER didn't fire last time from post 10 but should be on the go early this week in his second start with Lasix. (1) WHAT THE LUCK can stick close from the cones and get into the exotics.

Race 12: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L3 $8,350) in last 5 or $8,680 in last 6

(7) MON AMOUR has made late breaks in two straight starts at Yonkers. It looked like his tail got caught in the lines two back and maybe last time the off track didn't help. The hobbles go on now and if they along with the steady hands of Dunn keep him trotting, he's more than fast enough to win. (9) CHIPLOSIVE didn't draw the ideal post but does get to drop down a level on the class scale. Barn has been heating up of late. (1) MCMATTERS has some form and can stay closer this time from the inside post.

Race 13: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5/TM 77.5 (NW L3/5/10 78/78.5/78.75) or less

(8) SPEAK YOUR MIND has plenty to prove but seems to be in a winnable spot leaving Winners 1-3 for this bottom conditioned race. Callahan should be leaving. (10) GOTTALOVEMYSHADOW drops back down to the level of her last win and clearly has the early speed to fire out. (3) PLEASURE SEEKER draws inside now and should be able to stay closer to the pace and perhaps work out a trip. (4) SKATEBOARD CHIC lured Miller off #10 and her form is pretty good.

Race 14: Trackmaster 74.5 (NW L3/2L5 75/75.5) or less

(7) PRAISE ME HANOVER got a barn change in his last start and didn't exactly set the world on fire, though I'm not sure how much was expected after missing five weeks. Four-year-old should be tighter now and we get a Hall of Fame driver in the bike. Perhaps we can get some value here on a horse that has bad lines but could improve. (8) SOMIKI moves into a new barn and picks up Dunn. (10) ITS ROCKIN RANDY will be firing to the front and should get a big piece. (1) POINTSMAN is another switches stables who could certainly step up his game.
