Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 12/9

Derick Giwner|Dec 07, 2022
Meadowlands logo (new)

FALL MEET STATS: 183-48-32-26 / $317.00 (-$49.00)

BEST BETS: 14-8-3-0 / $45.00 (+17.00)

SPOT PLAYS: 14-2-2-3 / $10.20 (-$15.80)

BEST BET: PRIMADONNA DEO (2nd)

SPOT PLAY: TWIN B EAGLE (13th)

Race 1: GSY 1 Pace - Pick 5

(6) TAKEITTOTHEFACE moves into a barn that started its first horse of the meet last weekend and sent out a 63-1 winner. On paper he fits and notice he's had success over the track in the past. (1) PICTORIAN THUNDER has more wins and earnings than any horse in the field this year. His last start over the track saw him stuck in post 9. (3) PETER PUMPKINEATER has some early speed in his arsenal if Slendorn wants to tap into it. I wouldn't be shocked if he got involved at a price.

Race 2: Winners 2-4 (3YO & Non-starters in 2022 5) races life

(2) PRIMADONNA DEO chased through pedestrian fractions and really had no chance of chasing down Stride The Hill last weekend. This field shapes up as slightly easier from where I'm sitting. (5) TACHYON was a $45,000 Harrisburg buy and lands in a sharp barn that can move one up. Main question here is the missed time. (8) ROCK A BYE LINDY owns a fast mark in Kentucky and certainly has a chance. (7) HIGHGATE has turned in a nice season for Greg Peck while climbing through the conditions in Pennsylvania. Let's see what he has on the big track.

Race 3: Non-winners 2 (NW L3 3) races or $20,000 (NW L3 $30,000) life/2YO draw inside - Survivor 7

(3) INTO THE UNKNOWN had no chance from post eight last time while returning from a four-month break. Filly seems capable of a 1:53 mile here and that's what it should take. (1) SWEET PHENOMENA sat just off a good clip and pounced nicely last time; threat to repeat. (2) ALWAYS B SOMEWHERE hasn't missed the board in five starts this year.

Race 4: TrackMaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less

(4) ROCK KING DEO never got involved from the outside post last time. Seven-year-old should be kept closer to the action moving inside. (3) ITS SHOWTIME comes off a solid effort from post 9 and he should be even sharper in his second start back from a break in action; keeps Gingras. (6) CHIEF OF STAFF has a win and a second in this class recently. (9) DUDDIE'S LOR picks up a catch-driver this week and notice he was keeping better company when in Pennsylvania.

Race 5: GSY 1 Pace

(4) JUXTA COWGIRL has been working her way down the class ladder out of town and now lands in a great spot for owner/driver David Glasser. I'd expect to see early speed and a much improved effort. (10) CAPOZZO and (9) SUNSHINE'S FINEST are both sharp but stuck outside. If either gets a clean trip and some pace help, watch out! (1) MV OK PALACIO BR might need a start having missed a few months, but his best is good enough.

Race 6: Non-winners $3,000 in last 5/TM 76.5 or less/Opt. $12,500 Clm. - $50K GTD Pick 4

(5) FOR CHIPS SAKE was super in her first start for this barn and it seems wise to stay on board. (7) COOLNCALCULATING N raced reasonably well from an impossible post at Yonkers. Mare could certainly pick up her game in start two for new connections and Smith in the bike likely means the price will be right. (1) LITTLE HONEYBADGER has early speed and pylons position. She should push away and sit a decent trip.

Race 7: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L3 $5,500) in last 5

(7) SUMATRA raced better than I expected last weekend when second in this class; sticking here. (2) PAPPY GO GO steps up and now adds Dunn. He seems likely to move this guy up. (10) NYLANDER just missed in this condition a week ago and he does have the early speed to get position from the bad post.

Race 8: TrackMaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less - Pick 6

(7) SKATEBOARD CHIC raced ok in her first start for this barn and could perk up more here in start two with a driver upgrade. (1) DANDY IDEA gets a gigantic driver change from the trainer to one of the greatest drivers on the planet, and he's been moving horses up from regular catch-drivers. (2) BACI BACI went from pacing 2:06 3/5 in October to 1:56 2/5 last time. She's clearly coming around now and lured Gingras to the team.

Race 9: TrackMaster 80 (NW L3/2L5/L10 80.5/81/82.11) or less

(3) LOVE THE BLUES N went a huge mile in defeat last time after getting hung for the first half of the race. Sharp 8-year-old seems worth another try. (6) BOILING OAR left town and turned in an improved effort. Perhaps in start three back from a break in action this guy will be ready to roll. (7) LETSGOTOBRAZIL A came up a bit flat last time and got an extra week of rest. Import seems sharp enough to play with the right journey.

Race 10: Non-winners $12,000 in last 5 or 7 races life/TM 84.5 or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(1) SOMEGIRLSOMEWHEREA accelerated nicely to get the win when shown daylight in her U.S. debut. She can win regardless, but if she takes a small step forward she'll be really tough. (3) SO IRRESISTIBLE was parked every step last time in a monster performance to finish third. Four-year-old is clearly sharp, though Zeron jumped ship for #6. (4) I LOVE ONGAIT has won two straight including besting #3 last week after following her cover. (5) MG'S BEST ERA EVA has been doing good things at Dover and lured Callahan off #1.

Race 11: Non-winners $7,501 in last 5 or 3 races in 2022/TM 82 (NW L3/2L5 82.5/83) or less

(4) SUNDAY AFTERNOON perhaps went a smidge too fast on the front and couldn't sustain late last time. It is worth noting that speed didn't play well early on the card but was doing great later when (1) LETS RYDE GIRL rolled down the road. These two could be controlling the race. (7) RABLE rallied well from an impossible spot last time. This barn could be turning a corner after a tough meet on the win end.

Race 12: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5/TM 76.5 (NW L3/5 77/77.5) or less

(4) MCMATTERS has been dropping in class for some time and finally reaches the basement. Gelding raced ok from a tough spot most recently and should be very competitive here. (9) GOES DOWN SMOOTH is more than capable of winning here if he decides to mind his manners. (1) VENDOR BILL and (5) MASSIVE MATTER both get major driver changes and the latter adds hobbles as well. Will these changes make enough of a difference? (7) MARQUIS VOLO picks up Dunn!

Race 13: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5

(2) TWIN B EAGLE took a step forward on the barn change as expected but it just wasn’t enough. Four-year-old moves inside now and figures to show a bit more. (5) RIFLEMAN drops for the fourth straight week to finally reach the bottom class. His last two efforts really weren't bad. (1) EXPLOIT moves to the big track and a wake-up effort wouldn't be a surprise.

Race 14: TrackMaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less

(9) PURAMERI moves into a new barn and adds Gingras. Mare has big early speed and the new driver figures to be using it. (3) RHYME N ROLL left and chased home nicely for second last time. She could be looking at a similar scenario here. (5) ONE MORE TRY and (6) MILLENIUMS GIRL are both in good form and either could be interesting with the right setup.
