Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 1/27

Meadowlands logo (new)

WINTER MEET STATS: 70-14-14-13 / $79.00 (-$61.00)

BEST BETS: 5-0-2-2 / $0.00 (-10.00)

SPOT PLAYS: 5-1-1-1 / $5.00 (-$5.00)

BEST BET: SUPER GIRL (2nd)

SPOT PLAY: SCRAPPIN GOLD (13th)

Race 1: GSY 1 Pace - Pick 5

(5) STOLEN ART gets an interesting trainer change as well as a huge shift in post positions. (3) BILBO HANOVER comes to town sharp and more importantly has the early speed to gain position in a race that seems to lack much gate zip. (6) MV OK PALACIO BR stayed inside and sealed his fate last time. His best game is to come from off the pace. (8) JOHNNY Q gets an interesting driver change.

Race 2: Winners 1-2 races or $20,000 (NW in 2023 $30,000) life/Maidens draw inside

I loved the effort from (2) SUPER GIRL in her career debut last weekend. She was handled with care early but charged home when it counted. Any small step forward and she can most definitely beat the likely favorite (4) ON YOUR MONEY GB, who beat her off a rated mile. (5) SPEAK YOUR MIND split the above pair to be second last out and certainly has a shot here.

Race 3: Non-winners $10,500 (NW L3 $11,550) in last 5/TM 84 or less - Survivor 7

(4) CHIPLOSIVE took a step in the right direction last Friday when second behind (3) HOCKEY HANOVER, who is red-hot right now. These two are clearly fastest in here and either could win. (7) PLATINUM AS wasn't bad from off the pace last out. He could be closer here against a smaller field and Miller did chose him over #4.

Race 4: Trackmaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less

(1) SAUBLE DELIGHTFUL got caught up in a fast mile last time and held reasonably well considering. The top three finishers from that race are nowhere to be found here and that gives this gal an advantage. (3) CHERIE AMOUR wasn't bad last time and Gingras now joins the team as she drops into the lowest condition at the track. After the top two I have no opinion as this field lacks many horses to get excited about.

Race 5: GSY 1 Pace

(2) MEET THE CREEPER raced reasonably well from post 10 last time and is certainly down in class in some respects. I don't pick this driver often but the spot looks ideal behind (6) CLAYTONS BETTOR N, who will be gunning to the front but has seen trouble lasting the mile. (9) WILLIAM MCWHISKERS comes off a much-improved effort and looms a big threat if Kleinhans can navigate the outside post.

Race 6: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L3 $5,500) in last 5/TM 79.5 (NW L2/L5 80.10/80.5)/Opt. $15K Clm. - $50K GTD Pick 4

(6) CASH ROLL drops back down to the level of her last win and only needs a smooth trip to win. (5) VEL DONNA came up short on the rim last time after missing a month of action. She can show much more this time around. (8) SHEZAFREAKLIKEME is capable of blasting to the front and she should have an easier road this time. (2) COUSIN MARY is a class-dropper adding Gingras; maybe.

Race 7: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5/TM 76.5 (NW L3/5 77/77.5) or less

(5) A BETTER GAME finally woke up on the drop to the basement condition and any decent try here should make him tough. (3) THAT’S INCREDIBLE gets her chance to dip in class and her efforts versus better haven't been awful. (1) LAURIE LEE is another down in class this week who is capable of awakening.

Race 8: Non-winners $5,000 (NW L3 $5,500) in last 5/TM 79.5 (NW L2/L5 80.10/80.5)/Opt. $15K Clm. - Pick 6

(1) THE PANTHEIST A raced well from off the pace despite getting outkicked in her U.S. debut. Seven-year-old can make some serious noise here with any forward progress. (4) PEARL HARBOUR N showed marked improvement in her second try on this soil; Lasix added; dangerous again. (8) ITS MESMERISE N drops back down to the level of her last win and she should offer fair value.

Race 9: $12,500-$15,000 Claiming Handicap

Going to look for value here with (9) GUNRNEEDABGRBOAT A, who wasn't bad last time from off the pace. Nine-year-old has been stuck in post nine all three starts for new trainer Levine and I get the feeling they might gun him here and take a shot. (3) PERKINS and (6) ILLINI DUKE were both used to get the lead and faded badly last out. Either could rebound with a smoother journey.

Race 10: Non-winners $7,500 (NW L2 $8,250) in last 5/TM 81.5 (NW L3/5 82/82.5) or less - $50K GTD Pick 4

(2) GOTWUTEVERITTAKES and (3) HOOLIE N HECTOR both drop out of a much tougher race and draw much better here. I'll lean to the former as his form has been good lately and he has more class. (1) MUSCLE FASHION has been picking up checks while disappointing his followers on the win end; underneath again.

Race 11: Trackmaster 77 (NW L3/5 77.5/78) or less

(1) WINDSONG JACK took a small step forward last week by showing late life. In a field loaded with potential early speed, he seems worth a shot from slightly off the pace. (5) BRUCE'S MAGIC is another horse likely coming from behind. He needs a hot pace but could certainly get it. (9) RAPTORS FLIGHT N is the sharpest horse, but the trip could get western from the outside post.

Race 12: Non-winners $3,000 (NW L3 $3,300) in last 5

(5) THROWING COPPER was perhaps too close to the pace and couldn’t handle the first-over journey when last seen here in December. The month off isn't ideal but he seems to fit nicely in this group loaded with class-droppers. (1) TEXAS MIKI plunges multiple classes and gets Gingras in the bike. (7) LIKE CLOCKWORK comes out of the same race as #1 and has big early speed to gain position.

Race 13: Trackmaster 74 (NW L3/5 74.5/75) or less

You have to search back to July to find the last time (9) SCRAPPIN GOLD was in this class with a catch-driver in the bike. During those four starts he got a win and three seconds. Bongiorno will be blasting to the front tonight. (2) SD WATCH ME NOW is a logical pick off a very nice effort. That said, he's never been faster than 1:54 4/5. (5) ITS ROCKIN RANDY comes off a decent effort and has high early speed.

Race 14: Non-winners $3,000 in last 5/TM 76.5 (NW L3/5 77/77.5) or less

(1) HALLIAMA raced well considering he was making his first start since June. Seven-year-old has some go to him and should be close from post one. (7) C YOU AGAIN DK was very sharp in his qualifier and could've won by much more. If they go with him first out, this race could be over. (4) FIX-IT-UP adds Lasix and is worth some consideration. (9) REPLICA HANOVER gets a trainer change. Maybe that will wake him up?
