Meadowlands: Analysis for Friday 12/30

Jay Bergman|Dec 28, 2022
Meadowlands logo (new)

BEST BET: KENOGAMI REBEL (2nd)

SPOT: PRAIRIE WESTERNGAL (6th)

Race 1-GSY 1. Pace

(4) SPECTACULAR SUNSET was really roughed up after leaving from the outside and given no mercy towards pursuit of the lead. Better spot tonight for a horse that remains in top condition. (5) FERDINAND A returns to the big track following a down-the-road mission failed at Freehold. Import has done well at this level. (6) TAKEMETOTHELMIT GB is another first-timer from the Harmon stable that may fit this class perfectly.

Race 2-Winners of 2 but not 4. 3 Year Olds. Trot

(8) KENOGAMI REBEL made his debut for Burke at Yonkers with an incredible effort parked the mile to win by open lengths. Ontario-bred gelding faces similar company here and should dominate despite the draw. (3) CREATE MYSTIQUE has shown the winning habit and figures to be in decent striking position with her early foot. (6) PENCILS DOWN has a penchant for finishing third so we'll bite here.

Race 3-N/W $3,000 LAST 5 Fillies & Mares. Pace

(4) CHERIE AMOUR didn't make it down for her last start two weeks ago but did qualify reasonably well chasing a blistering pace. Mach Three-sired mare has won 10 times this year and should be ready. (8) LADY ROCKNJROLLA A made a smashing debut coming off the half-mile track for a career best 1:51 4/5 victory. Mare remains at the same level due to an optional claiming tag and is dangerous despite the post. (6) WOODMERE HARRIET has faced much tougher recently and should benefit from the reduced class.

Race 4-N/W $3,000 LAST 5. Trot

(6) TAKATO has been showing promise of late at Saratoga. Expensive son of Father Patrick has yet to live up to his lofty $140K purchase price but should be pointed in the right direction here first time Gingras. (5) DON’T I WISH was shuffled badly in last at The Meadows and can rebound here. (1) ANOMALY may be able to pick up small pieces with this draw.

Race 5-Track Master Rating 74 Fillies & Mares. Pace

(3) MILADY DENVER A has had some legitimate excuses as of late. Veteran mare gets a good draw in a blank field. (8) PLEASURE SEEKER went a solid trip two starts back and then had no shot coming from well back in last; hopefully she'll be assertive early here. (4) MARTARITAONDAROCKS is second time Lasix on the move to the big track.

Race 6-N/W $7,500 LAST 5. Fillies & Mares. Pace - $50K Gtd. Pick 4

(3) PRAIRIE WESTERNGAL raced well in her local debut for trainer Mike Deters. Six-year-old picks up Stratton and finds improved position here. (2) SHECANDANCE N ships in sharp from Yonkers and deserves respect. (9) APRIL AVA may be pointed out early with little competitive speed to her inside.

Race 7-N/W $10,500 LAST 5. Trot

(5) AMADOR has shown steady improvement in his most recent starts including a deceptively strong closing effort in last. Yankee Glide-sired gelding remains in solid trotting hands. (9) STEUBEN HANOVER has amassed a small fortune racing in the lucrative $50,000 claiming class at Yonkers and may be a shade overbet here. (3) P L OSCAR has missed some time but returns to the big track in good hands.

Race 8-N/W $5,000 LAST 5. Fillies & Mares. Pace.

(4) BULLVILLEKARLA has been closing strongly when given the opportunity at this level. Zeron's choice in here should be forwardly placed. (10) SHEZAFREAKLIKEME was a much better sophomore than she’s come back as this year. Sweet Lou-sired mare held dead game after a brutal journey in last and may do better if aggressively handled from this spot. (2) COOLNCALCULATING N scored at 27-1 coming from the clouds in last. Import gets an improved spot but will still need a quick pace if she's to do it again.

Race 9-Track Master Rating 89. Trot

(9) WESLYNN QUEST never looked that smooth going in her Harrah's Philadelphia start a week ago. $500,000 winning mare has been in with much tougher throughout her career and now returns to the big track with enough talent to overcome the draw. (5) KENZIESKY HANOVER has been racing consistently at Yonkers against must mares. This 7-year-old returns to the big track but faces tougher. (7) DELAYED HANOVER got his first win since joining forces with Kevin McDermott three weeks ago against slightly weaker company.

Race 10-Track Master Rating 86.75 or less. Fillies & Mares. Pace - $50K Gtd. Pick 4

(7) MAN DONTFORGET ME has won her last two with Jordan Stratton in the bike. With Yonkers closed Stratton joins the 5-year-old mare in a class she appears to fit quite well. (5) VILLAGE JADE also moves from Yonkers to the big track following a solid effort. Burke-trained daughter of Bettors Delight is as good racing from on or off the pace. (2) SHANGHAI SEELSTER is another of three Burke-trained mares in the field. This one had no chance in her debut here but was pacing well to the wire; post improvement will tell where she belongs.

Race 11-N/W $7,500. Trot

(2) KING ALPHONSO had been off nearly nine months before his return two weeks back. As expected, he showed speed in the contest but faltered coming home. This 5-year-old has plenty of class and now not only gets post relief but a drop in class to boot. (7) MUSCLE FASHION arrives sporting some quality lines over the Woodbine Mohawk strip and is dangerous with a trip. (8) C C BANK was rather surprising pulling off the upset in his local return but gets tested for class in here.

Race 12-N/W 2 Extended P.M. Races. Pace.

(7) AUSSIE HANOVER may finally be ready to break the ice after three solid second place finishes. Bettors Delight-sired gelding has made the most of the non-winners of 3 classification. (4) LYONS PRIDE gets respect arriving from Woodbine-Mohawk with some decent form racing against tougher. (3) GREG THE LEG has shown speed but will need staying power to get the job done here.

Race 13-N/W $5,000 LAST 5. AE: TMR 79.5. Trot

(9) HOLTON may have been a bit too assertive in his last start at Yonkers but should be credited with a good effort. With the drop and move to the big track he could be ready to regain winning form for the Buters. (2) INXS quickly returns to the level of his last win and finds a solid spot. (3) FIX IT UP has come down the class ladder but needs to show more.

Race 14-Track Master Rating 74. Pace

(5) COOKIEMANSMANHARDT flashed solid pace finishing in his local debut. Harmon-trained 5-year-old fits the class well and may be more aggressive early here. (7) ALWAYS A PANTHER got the worst of it in a bitter struggle in amateur action and can bounce back here. (4) SOMIKI is a bit hard to gauge given some pedestrian miles at Saratoga but offers hope in this blank field.
