Me and My Shadow takes on older in return

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Me and My Shadow bypassed last Saturday’s Star Shoot Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine and should be favored versus older opposition in Friday’s third race, a nonwinners-of-two allowance with a $50,000 claiming option for 3-year-olds.
Me and My Shadow looked like she could be any kind, graduating with a 78 Beyer Speed Figure on debut here last July while defeating the future Canadian champion 2-year-old filly Cairo Consort. She started one more time last summer, a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Schuylerville on the dirt at Saratoga.
Returning from a three-month break here Oct. 16, Me and My Shadow wound up second as the favorite in the 1 1/16-mile Princess Elizabeth Stakes for Canadian-breds. She was odds-on turning back to six furlongs most recently on Dec. 9 in the restricted Shady Well Stakes, in which she had to settle for second after getting outfinished by the good Fashionably Fab.
Emma-Jayne Wilson retains the mount on Me and My Shadow for D J Stable and trainer Mark Casse, who has a 12 percent strike rate with 61- to 180-day layoff runners. The Ontario-bred daughter of Violence is nominated to the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks on July 23.
The seven-furlong sprint lured five others, including the late-blooming Florida shipper Gayelette.
Trained by Nick Gonzalez, Gayelette placed in 6 of 8 outings here last year, all against maiden special weight opposition. She returned from a 5 1/2-month layoff on March 31 at Gulfstream to graduate in a hybrid Tapeta sprint for Florida-bred and $40,000 maidens. Justin Stein will ride the 4-year-old.
Trainer Catherine Day Phillips entered She Makes a Point and Halaga, who worked five-eighths together in a quick clocking last Friday.
She Makes a Point is unraced since Dec. 10, when the daughter of Point of Entry closed for third in a seven-furlong race at this level. Declan Carroll has the mount and was aboard when she put up an 81 Beyer in a narrow loss on the grass in June.
Halaga had a busy winter campaign on the Tapeta at Turfway, where she finished second in back-to-back $30,000 conditioned claimers going a mile in February and March. The rival who edged her out of first on March 2, Under One Sky, came back to double up in a first-level allowance there with a 79 Beyer.
Halaga was a disappointing fifth as the favorite March 30. This will be her debut for Day Phillips, who combined with promising apprentice Sofia Vives to win with longshot Popnfizz here April 23.
Lady Brew wound up fourth behind She Makes a Point the last time she went postward on Dec. 10.
Helluva Holiday completed her juvenile season in the fall with a pair of fourth-place finishes in stakes on different surfaces. She beat her company in a half-mile breeze in 48 last Sunday.
