ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Trainer Mark Casse won the $250,000 Bison City Stakes for the sixth time on Sunday at Woodbine with the favored Me and My Shadow.
With Emma-Jayne Wilson aboard, Me and My Shadow bided her time in sixth on the backstretch as Seattle Causeway set quick fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route.
Me and My Shadow began to advance outside rivals on the far turn and then made a five-wide bid to the lead early in the stretch before drawing off for a 3 1/2-length score, in a time of 1:44.30.
Tito’s Calling finished second while a neck ahead of a stalking Fashionably Fab, who beat out a tiring Seattle Causeway for third.
It was the third Bison City win for Wilson, who won it on Free Fee Lady in 2010 and with Brooklynsway in 2015. The daughter of Violence was coming off a wide fourth in the Woodbine Oaks.
“Her acceleration through the turn was pretty epic,” Wilson said. “When we straightened on and dug in some more, it was all over. I’ve been riding her since she was 2 and she’s really developed. We had a little bit of an unlucky trip in the Oaks from the 14-hole, but she still ran a massive race that day. She seems to really be putting it all together.”
Me and My Shadow ($5.80) earned $150,000 in her first stakes victory for D J Stable.
Following the Oaks, the Bison City is the middle leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara, a series for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies. The anchor leg, the $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes, goes over 1 1/4 miles on turf here Sept. 10.
