McGee: Santa Anita pick three for Sunday, March 6
It’s a terrific Sunday card at Santa Anita, with sizable and competitive fields making for some interesting handicapping. Some of the later races in particular offer some enticing angles. Here we go …
In Race 6, a maiden special weight route, isn’t Hoffenheim a good go-against? He’s been the beaten favorite in each of his last four starts, including the last two as the 3-5 choice. Folks surely will line up to back him again Sunday, but with the outside post and a solid cast of opponents, he could very well find a way to get beat once more.
In Race 7, a bottom-rung, open claiming route, Cant Do the Dance and Celebrity Status both appear capable on their best.
In Race 8, a wide-open first-level allowance sprint for California-breds, Skye Diamonds gets a legitimate excuse for her latest and stands to redeem herself as a beaten favorite in a lineup that can also count Run for Retts and Hurricaine Callie as players.
