McGee: Santa Anita pick three for Sunday, Jan. 3
Pick three, races 6-8
ROCKANTHAROS (9) was considered for the Santa Ynez Stakes on Saturday but evidently will scratch from that Grade 2 race for a much better spot as she comes favorably drawn in the outside post against fellow maidens as a single in Race 6.
A single in the Grade 2 Monrovia (Race 7) is AGELESS (11), who has been among the top filly-and-mare turf sprinters the last couple of years and showed she can handle the downhill course when running a huge race in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Surely she has recovered from the minor injury incurred when she defeated Lady Shipman at Keeneland in early October.
Race 8 is filled with contenders and deserves a scattershot approach in trying to end the pick three sequence with a price.
