McGee: How I'll play Gulfstream on Sunday, March 29
Race 1
We’ll be starting the day with a pick three that bookends a pair of most-likely winners in the first and third races while scatter-shotting the middle by using longer prices against some of the more logical plays:
R1 – 3, 5
R2 – 2, 3, 8, 9
R3 – 2, 10
Race 5
Very intrigued with the return of ZOOM BOX (2), a Ralph Nicks castoff who has been regrouped by the crafty New England pro Assimakapolous; first-time gelding and blinkers on after a conspicuous series of works; we’re sold. Will use in verticals and horizontals.
Race 6
Turns out LAVENDER CHRISSIE (3) wasn’t the world beater she was touted to be when finishing off the board at 1-5 on closing weekend of the Churchill Downs fall meet, but Dale has taken his time with her, and now she’s primed to return with a flair. She’s another I’ll be relying on.
Race 8
Seems there’s enough speed to help the late kick of ACHNAHA (8), who probably won’t be the 3-1 we’re promised on the morning line, but we’ll tie her up with a couple of price plays in Rejoiceful (2) and One More Strike (6).
Race 9
Thinking ALL IN FUN (3) might be one of those Tapit fillies bound for stardom, so we’ll make use her as a 10th-race single in crafting this pick four ticket to end the 12-race Sunday card:
R9 – 4, 6, 7, 11
R10 – 3
R11 – 2, 3, 5, 8
R12 – 1, 3, 11, 13
