McGee: How I'd play Keeneland on Sunday, April 17
Except for maybe using ULTRA ARUMBA and QUIET BUSINESS as live longshots in a wide-open race 3, I’ll be taking a pass on what I thought was a fairly inscrutable opening portion of this nine-race Sunday card at Keeneland and focus on getting Graham Motion another winner with JELLICLE BALL in race 7. It’s been a fairly slow winter for a stable that typically wins at a steady percentage, but having saved a bunch of conditions during the mini-slump, I’m anticipating a hot streak for Graham here in Kentucky and on the East Coast.
Jellicle Ball surely needed the race when she was narrowly beaten for the same 1x allowance condition that governs race 7, and with a favorable draw and John Velazquez taking the call, she’ll be my single in a late pick four. In the featured Beaumont Stakes (race 8), I’ll throw up the proverbial white flag by using the three obvious favorites.
Here’s the ticket:
R6 – 1, 7, 8, 9, 10
R7 – 2
R8 – 1, 3, 5
R9 – 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10
50-cent ticket = $45
